It's so clear and obvious Michael's ambition far exceeded just being on stage with his brothers. He had tasted solo success and there was no turning back. The energy and hunger in his vocals here are incredible - he outperforms and overshadows his older brother easily. Such a moment.
@mamanitubea2 жыл бұрын
Still all the brothers together were fantastic
@fostermac7170 Жыл бұрын
"Outperformed? Overshadowed?" This isn't a competition, this is a performance. Everything you hear in this song was designed, concepted, written and produced to sound like it did. This song was written by Michael Omartian for Jermaine (his key, the chords he's most comfortable in___and designed to be sung while PLAYING bass!). Omartian knows them well____they have worked together almost a decade at this point. Michael's role (by design) is as a featured vocalist taking advantage of his ability to scale higher chords. That's what makes the song work as well as it did. You guys are gonna need some education and sophistication along with your fandom if you're gonna continue to post commentary on the internet.

@@yourfairyking That's because you probably never experienced them together in a live setting. I MUCH prefer the J-5/Jacksons material over his solo stuff. The true magic is all of them together. His brothers NEVER got in the way. Rather they all enhanced each other. I've seen the original Jackson 5 twice, The Jacksons 3 times and the Bad Tour twice. As great as the Bad Tour was, The Triumph Tour in 1981 remains one of THE best concerts I've ever seen in my life. That's the concert that became the Jacksons Live album.

Music Trivia-When Jermaine signed with Arista Records, Jermaine asked Michael to come to the studio to record a duet. Michael asked what was going to happen. Jermaine informed him that they was going to be recording a duet and sing lead and backgrounds by themselves. Michael was excited. Sadly record label politics prevented the song to be released as an official single. Epic didn't want Arista to release a single with their artist despite the fact it was his brother and idol. The single was released as a radio single and it hit # 1 on the Adult Comptemorary and Dance charts and earned them brother a Grammy Nomination. The jacksons decided to perform this classic on their Victory tour.

Another fantastic song and recording. Yetnikoff has stated in an interview he made the call to Clive Davis based on Michael’s concern. The record received a Grammy nomination and wide radio play and is a great song. It is a No. 1 song for sure!!

3:45 is one of MJ's only perfect moments on stage. You see, Michael is a perfectionist, and so he does everything to get a performance right. When Jermaine started to do the background vocals, Michael did a 1/8 beat instead of the rehearsed 1/4 beat. This result sounded quite better, and that's how it ended up with that.
