The day of the concert a friend calls, "You want to see the Jacksons tonight? Your ticket's free if you drive." Approximately 0.0028 of a second later I answered "Hell Yeah!" I was 18 and fresh out of HS. Saw Billy Idol earlier in the year, graduated HS, went to NYC for a week & spent a week in the Bahamas. 1984 was a really good year. I could use another 1984 about now.

I was there with my oldest son, who was 6 years old. I really enjoyed the stage rising up and the Jackson's were standing at attention!! Ready to perform...what a show!!!

I was at this concert as a kid and I couldn’t believe I was there best show I ever saw. The date is wrong. The concert was in Atlanta on October 26-27, 1984 Friday and Saturday.

This is precisely when Michael transitioned to lighter brown makeup, October 1984. Although he has vitiligo, I personally believe this was a statement by him. He was changing, growing away from his brothers. He wanted to look different, and you can tell he does because his skin tone is nowhere near his brothers, but just looking at any concert in September, you see it still is. This will always be sort of a mysery to me. Why at this point did Michael decide to change his makeup so much? The lipstick and eyeliner got really strong during this time too, especially noticable in the Toronto leak, the first concert where he really sports this new, almost Bad era look.

Understandable, he wanted to distance himself from his brothers (rightfully so, they would drag him down) as he wanted to expand his music ideas and that, hence why the bad album and tour are my favourite of all time, around 86/87 era is where I think is his preferred and ultimate look, maybe not as Hispanic as he was in 88 but just a look where he isn’t associated with his brother and not too white because he was proud of a his race. A true mid-point of black and white

People fail to realize that vitiligo affects not just your skin, but your lips, eyelids, and makes the perception of your face completely different when it’s universal like MJ had. Around 84-85, is when the light spots began to overtake the dark spots and so he started using lighter makeup instead of darker. If you look at the Oprah interview, you see it even affected his palms. It must have been very difficult to manage while going out to be seen on a world stage everyday, I doubt highly MJ meant anything other than to TRY and look as much like himself as he could at this stage of his life. Even as far as 1991 he was still trying to maintain a black appearance if you look at the Black or White video.
