The Jacobite - A First Class Trip

We take a trip on the Jacobite Steam Train, travelling first class from Fort William to Mallaig and back. Join us as we enjoy the sights and sounds from one of the most scenic railway journeys in the world!.

Made this journey a few times over the years and once on the Jacobite. The first time was in the 60s, long before Harry Potter's time. Excellent video and one of the best crossings of the viaduct clips I've seen.

You will definitely not be disappointed with riding the Jacobite steam train whether you are a Harry Potter fan or not, the journey is spectacular!. The train has its own Harry Potter gift shop & there is one in Mallaig that is worth visiting too.

You can go on a 4-day Caledonian coach holiday stopping at arrochar's claymore hotel in April for £249 per person and the jacobite train is all included in the price and you also visit Glencoe , the three sisters mountains plus free drinks and bed breakfast and evening meal all included in the price as well . brilliant I have done the Oban and fort William one But next April I am doing the jacobite one 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Glad you enjoyed it. Be sure to book early as the Jacobite can sell out quickly, especially the first class carriage. Scotland is a beautiful country, you will not be disappointed!!!

We rented a cottage in Glenfinnan, saw the Jacobite a few times . Walked up and watched train cross over the viaduct. The train was all booked up , couldn't use it. We drove to Mallaig and the dogs and I got the normal service back to Fort William. And my partner drove us back to Glenfinnan

We would’ve loved to explore the area more and film the Jacobite from different locations but had very limited time. The Jacobite tickets usually go on sale in December I think & can sell out in days for the first class carriage. As you say, you can take a normal scotrail service & see the same sights, but the steam train is an exceptional experience!

I agree, the journey is famous worldwide & spectacular in its own right, but you can’t blame west coast railways for tapping into the Harry Potter franchise as it brings so many customers.

It's not the "Hogwarts train". It's a scenic train journey that has been running since the 80s. It is nothing to do with Harry Potter.

@@leeosborne3793 I kinda figured! Although, isn’t it the train that was used as the Hogwarts Train in the movie? I always thought the train in the movie was fake/non-existing

@@lynnvc402 The locomotives and carriages used in the films are real vintage British ones, and the ones used on this train are similar. What I'm saying is that this train is not a Harry Potter tie-in or an official Harry Potter product. A lot of people seem to think it is.

West Coast Railways supplied the engine & carriages used in the Harry Potter films. The actual engine “Olton Hall” is on show at Warner Bros Studio Tour in London. West Coast Railways do promote it as the Hogwarts Express & even have a Harry Potter shop on the train. They’d be foolish not to capitalise on the film as it brings extra visitors to ride the steam train. It is also mention on their website “Hogwarts Express”.

Great video enjoyed it.when did you make the film? I did the trip in June this year and was surprised to see the black 5 pass you at Glennfinen tender first as the 3 locos when I visited were all facing Mallaig! It was also noticable that there were only a few linesiders when you filmed the curve of the viaduct. I put my film on my channel in two parts and will suscribe to you. Cheers and thanks for sharing. Thanks Brian, we went on the Jacobite in September 2021. At that time over a few days, whenever I witnessed the Jacobite on the afternoon run to mallaig they were always running tender first. There were quite a lot of people viewing the Jacobite as it crossed the viaduct but most people climb the hill on the other side of the track to which I was filming. I loved watching your video of this magnificent old steam train and the adventure you went on. I am hoping to do this myself in a couple of months time. PS, I was at Carlisle Railway Station on Thursday to catch my connecting train back to Newcastle and when I was there seen the Scots Guardsman and it was awesome. @@ColinM_KZbin yes for sure, I had no idea the Scots Guardsman would be there when I was at Carlisle and it was the highlight of my day when I seen it. When I first seen it from a distance I was thinking it was the Flying Scotsman (I'm not into trains really and know little about them)
