Quite possibly one of my favorite things about this channel is the fact Ian has no qualms about complementing other channels ability to do what he is doing. There are not a lot of fields where people do that. Props on the assembly as well.

I love the way the Japanese have very specialized art forms dedicated to very specific things. For example Bonsai trees, miniature foods made and cooked with miniature tools, fashion on art subdivided by specific themes with their own rules and methods etc. But I also love German engineering. The genius logic and dedication to perfection to make near perfect tools and mechanical device's. The italians and their natural artistic ability to make some of the most beautiful astheatically pleasing creations I want to apply all of these to incorporate into my firearm company.

The Mk 1 from Professor Parabellum is similar, however the Dis-connector is cammed off the returning slide. mostly due to making the fire control group simple i suspect. See my build here. kzbin.info/door/M3F3boERzPtG1IDwgNRmEg?view_as=subscriber

don't know what you want. its simple, easy to manufacture ( I could build it with scetches in every school or workshop). It looks reliable and easy to reproduce ( look at the screws, in germany there's a shop called toom or obi, I think you can buy 90 percent of the gun). right steel, right ammo, scetches = good to go. Show this video Joerg sprave. ( 2 weeks later: thats my homemade jäger pistol, let me show you the features XDD)

I have never been able to lay hands on one of these fine example of German craftsmanship, however it has always been my dream, since my initials are JAGE it just falls in place that I should own one of these, I used to put an R after it as a password, back in the days when you could get by with simple passwords. Now, of course, I use a piece of software on my Linux system to generate "good" Passwords for all my password protected areas.

I feel like, at this point Ian RIA should be paying you...something. idk, do they at least feed you? Your horde of subscribers is probably home to more than a few buyers at their auctions and the detailed, high-quality videos you do on these weapons has to be a big factor in the amount of people who are interested in placing a bid.
@extrastuff9463
@extrastuff9463 8 жыл бұрын
Well I'm guessing the way both RIA and Ian look at this that it's a mutually beneficial arrangement. Ian gets access to firearms he doesn't own to show to the public and they get some extra publicity and videos to link in the catalog site. But they very well may be paying him something, I don't know I'm really just guessing it's probably being done as a mutually beneficial arrangement!

Both in its weird design and in the reluctance of its manufacturer to actually be making it, this gun reminds me of the GM P-75 Eagle fighter from World War II. The Eagle was made by the Fisher Body Division, a company which did not technically know anything about making airplanes, basically because the company had to be making something for the war effort and GM's bosses didn't want to be saddled with a bunch of worthless tooling for B-29s when it was all over. Admittedly, the parallel fails a bit if you subscribe to the belief that Fisher also sandbagged the P-75 project on purpose, so as not to have to actually make too many of them either; I'm inclined to agree with Othais's assessment that he was sincerely trying to come up with something useful using the tooling and expertise his workers already had.

Ian, i´ve got a question. Would a gun like the Bastard-Gun from the game Metro 2033 be something that actually worked? Are there guns with a similar disign?
@aserta
@aserta 8 жыл бұрын
Other than its unconventional firing/reload system it's a regular gun. Animation wise it suggests it would, but, that being said, it's a highly complicated system IF it functions as it's implied. I mean the bolt would have to pass through the magazine and chamber a round. It isn't a perfect gun, so, i'd say it's plausible, however unlikely that in a dystopian future, someone would tinker such a gun, i'd wager they'd make a reload rifle or an AK variant more than the BG.
@Dedfaction
@Dedfaction 8 жыл бұрын
There have been weapons that used slightly open magazines like that and there have been others that used metallic strips holding 20 rounds and as the weapon was fired the strip was def through the gun and dropped out when empty. The Hotchkiss M1914 used metallic strips that were fed through he gun (www.replicaplans.com/Hotchkiss%20M1914/Hotchkiss%20M1914%20(4).JPG) I suppose you could make a submachine gun that fed from a metallic strip like the one in the game, but I'm not sure why you would since its liable to damage, dirt etc That's why they stopped usimg metallic strips pretty quickly.

Believe I read a comment a while back saying in England it's any part that 'withstands pressure' so breach block and barrel probably. it's crazy how it's so opposite you could theoretically build a gun from parts perfectly legal in both places. I've never actually looked to see what kind of gun parts sell over there though and of course you can't ship them to where they'd be useful.

depends....was it done right after the war.... or done in 2011. its like an m1 garand....all matching brings high dollar...but 90% of them have many different parts. but thats how they were issued...so it doesnt hurt price much at all. like my m1 has a 43 reciever....a 42 bolt...a 52 barrel. and 3 different stock peices. but thats how it fraught in korea....if i actually found matching year parts, that would hurt the value as thats not how it was issued. its a strange "equation"

This pistol illustrates the cultural and industrial difference between US and German arms manufacturing in the interbellum and WWII. This design could've inspired US gunmakers to find a spectacular low cost hybrid between the 1911 and the Liberator. Instead, it was dismissed as an "amateur hour" side note by the stamped steel mass production obsessed Germans.
@farmerboy916
@farmerboy916 8 жыл бұрын
It rather highlights the attitude of modern arms manufacturers, that it still hasn't been done and popularized. Especially when it would perfectly fit the popularity of 80% firearms.
@abergethirty
@abergethirty 8 жыл бұрын
For one thing, this was only one arms manufacturer and he was only using this design out of necessity, he lacked the advanced tooling. The time and cost was the same. The machine tooling in America was state of the art for it's time so there was no emphasis to make a budget firearm this way.
@farmerboy916
@farmerboy916 8 жыл бұрын
***** Yes that's true for this specific firearm, but then we have numerous experimental handguns using sheet metal components, especially during ww2 (such as the volkspistole), and essentially every other type of firearm made of sheet metal. Actually, I remember seeing an experimental sheet metal 1911 somewhere; it wasn't designed very well imo. www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2013/01/02/the-mystery-of-the-stamped-steel-1911/ See all of the contouring and excess material? It's begging to be improved and use modern materials. I think the reason no one really went about it was that this sort of thing wasn't popular in the civilian market nor experimented with, and the periods where people were looking into it were wartime (and for some time after large wars there's plenty of quality surplus), and it just isn't traditional.
@abergethirty
@abergethirty 8 жыл бұрын
They Army made an experimental sheet metal 1911. It was actually found to be significantly heavier than a 1911 using machined parts. I'm guessing this is just a number of reasons it's better to just stick to machined frames for handguns.
