TheRealPhil,you made an excellent point. When people were trying to fight to end poverty, classism, racism, and capitalism the media and your fellow Americans looked the other way. Now because of the pandemic those people who looked the other way for years are in trouble themselves, and have lost their homes and are living in shelters, in their cars and on the street. Donald Trump, Joe Bidan, Nancy Pelosi, the congress and the Senate threw them a few crumbs and said," YOU are on Your own," we're going to give a trillion dollars to the people in the Ukraine and Afghanistan. Let's also give them all our baby formula. The American people are stupid, they just sit quietly while they slowly kill us. Don't you people get it, in their minds we are the enemy, that's why they are attacking us.

A major corporate jail, but let's see where all like the same elsewhere in the world. Those who most belong inside of that monstrosity in the country, will never see the inside of a jail cell, but I bet all love this project. Ask someone like The Clinton's. Corporate hauls off into prisons for profits, began being implemented under The Clinton administration, but conceived during The Reagan administration. Imagine how many people will be quickly unjustly punished just to keep that monstrosity full and profitable. Taxpayers money funds it all. The more put inside, the more taxpayers money given to the corporation. Everyone not in politics or connected to, especially in the state of New York, might see the inside of that place. Just don t complain to the rest of the country when your quality of life declines, businesses move out and your city budget hits a deficit. Please ask the rest of the country for a bailout because you are New York City. You guys voted for this insanity, now deal with it. Three things historically are needed for a city to exist, clean source of water, good sewage system to eliminate waste and safety. People will come to it, buy homes and open business in it. Miss any of these three essentials, the city will decline. You need your jails, otherwise the criminals will be left on the streets and you will have to deal with them. If the nice guy approach worked, crime would have dropped in NY since bail reform. It has not. Too many of the released end up being repeaters.

As usual, many liquor store, sleazy bars, adult stores and now jailhouse are always build around Chinatown. Never in Whites area, Korean or Japanese town. 😤

This is a form of targeting the poor and the unfortunate for small crimes such as your showed on your show the other day of three strikes you're out and you get a life sentence for something as simple as $150 jacket
@SharpieDiesel2 жыл бұрын
100% I would argue that they are also targeting the poor residents in Chinatown by making it less residentially oriented. Gentrification at it's finest!

Stop stealing after you have two strikes? Or move to San Francisco where it's okay to loot stores and not even be arrested nor harass by the police? Not to mention SF has nicer weather than NYC. [Sarcasm]

For the city to plan to built the biggest prison in the people's community, which would drive communities our to the urban areas, more Chinese would be easily imprisoned and there would be friction in the community. This will never happen in a thriving white neighborhood. The whole plan is inconsiderate and the community has the right to vote in a person who cares about their livelihoods, welfare and better housing projects for the neighborhood.

Chinatown is such a special place for new York. It makes the city cool. And look what they are doing. To pick Chinatown for it's location. Talk about scapegoating.

I'm curious what lead to Mayor Adams's 180° about face on the jailscraper, other than winning office in NYC and access to the inside workings of the Mayor's Office. Are they trying to replicate the downtown 4th Street Jail of Phoenix, AZ; except in NYC, but bigger?

In Chinatown not the Hamptons or Park Ave. What a joke..meanwhile Adams puts illegal immigrants in luxury hotels at taxpayer expense but 4 billion on a jail you got homeless people in the streets Adams is a joke hes gotta go.

Only 18 this year??? That ain't nothing for their turnover and pop. Northampton County jail I watched 3 people die in 1 months back in 2014. There was only a population of 600 in that jail. 1-200 odds of dying while being held for court....

Revolution is now needed and a separate homeland is needed for the poor workers of America. The rich and the poor cannot peacefully live in harmony, because their whole goal is to continue to live off of the backs of the poor. The poor working class donot need these blood sucker. We can organize ourselves into our own civil society, provide for and take care of each others need. I can't see any other way out.

Stop that thought. That jail being built partly with you in mind. Under current system it not difficult to put anyone in jail - unpaid ticket police stop and search on ridiculous pretense and an angry pushing a neighbor complaint.... The list goes on.

How about they build only 1 new jail either in Staten Island or Manhattan and then close down rikers after all the prisoners are transferred out. Use Riker's Island for a community project. Put a museum or park or recreation center. No private homes or businesses except for a few restaurants or small retail shops that serve the purpose of being a draw to whatever community project that goes there!
