Happy Saturday everyone! This is my "rough draft" of the new set. I spent the past 2 days working on everything: setting up new computers, software, mics, camera, building a new desk, etc. Let me know how it looks/sounds (I think its quite alright 🤗) Appreciate all of you!

@@JustJP All Mod Cons has A Bomb In Wardour Street, probably my favourite track, there's a sensational live version from the BBC music show Old Grey Whistle Test on KZbin, check it out. But I think In The City just shades it. That was the first and the one that made the biggest impression, it was all new.

In 1977 they, like some other new bands bought an energy and freshness to the music scene here in England. It was an exciting time especially in 77-79. It all seemed new and fun to a teenager.

In May 1977 this is no proto-punk, it's already British punk rock at it's finest. Half a year earlier The Damned already released "New Rose" which is often named as the first British punk rock record. 1976 was also the year when the Sex Pistols had their famous "gig that changed the world" in Manchester, so punk rock in the UK mainly started in that year.

​@@Owlstretchingtime78 It doesn't really matter if they themselves were punk, I'm solely talking about the music that they made on their first album ! Like it or not, "In the City" was a punk record. I am fully aware of the band being more like a mod revival band, yet it didn't show in their music before their second album. It reminds me of someone who once told me that The Clash had nothing to do with New Wave. Similar case. They themselves as a band were never part of the genre, but some songs (like "Rock the Casbah", "Lost in the Supermarket" or "The Magnificent Seven") clearly were.

Reminds me of Buzzcocks. Love early punk energy. Did you react MC5? The best way to react is watching them live, especially Tartar field. The second album is very good too. 'Over and Over' is a late classic... And yes, the new set is very good! But I will always look to that door expecting someone appears, hahaha

I'm a sucker for the old set! The mysterious, relaxing background (which seemed to fill an entire room), the clock with inspirational messages and/or weather, the chalkboard or whiteboard with goals written on it. It was unique and well-composed (for the screen), even if it was only a place of the mind. I found it comforting, welcoming. I could only imagine the life beyond that set.

The Jam were more Mod Revival than they were Punk. Weller was heavily influenced by The Who.

Sounded very clear and the video quality was really sharp too. Looking good! The album covers are a nice touch, although maybe a little far away? Re the song, fully agree with your review. The Jam were never punks but they certainly tapped into the energy of the punk movement. A 19-year-old Weller sounding self assured from the get-go - and with something to say befitting their Mod credentials.

The horse sound is the plectrum ( pick) being pushed down the guitar string away from the guitarist. 😊

It was love at first listen, I was 17 and Weller just spoke to me in a language I understood. The ultimate 3 piece band, complementing each other perfectly. When Weller split the band I was disappointed but better than to drag it out and become irrelevant. Long live the Jam!

Given my (few) comments on other videos and my Oi, Street Punk, And Anarcho Punk leanings, it will come as no great surprise that 'In The City' is my favourite Jam album. If you want an album to try out around Halloween, might I suggest 'Midnight Madness and Beyond' by GBH. Whilst it wasn't their first studio album it was the first one I bought and caused me to order their earlier stuff via mail order (as CDs).

Forgive me being pedantic, but I feel I should correct you on one point. The Jam were not punks. They were mods. There was big difference in style and dress. You could always tell mods from their Parker raincoats, 'ten pin bowling' style shoes and Vespa, or preferably Lambretta mopeds. To get a good insight into mod culture, I recommend watching Quadrephenia. Soundtrack is by The Who.

Hello Justin. I think its good that you're looking to change it up a bit. I love your backdrop and am happy to see its still on the wall. Interesting the new look, sort of a pallet cleanser, if you get my meaning. Not sure about the visible door. I suppose its better then having a window if those are the options. The sound and image clarity continues good, if that was your concern. Have you thought of a diagonal look? Corner of the room in the back, mostly hidden by your body on the chair. Avoids doors and windows and probably give you a bit more space to move around. Just a thought. Have fun with the change ups. Wishing you and yours good vibes and stay healthy.

One of the best of the more melodic British punk bands (along with the Buzzcocks and the Clash), and certainly not a one-dimensional sound - they had both brash songs like this and also gentler tracks. They're often compared to early music by The Who from a decade earlier, which is a pretty fair comparison. The new sound's good, but the set still needs some work :)

I know you enjoyed the Sex Pistols when you reviewed their classic album. The Pistols admitted to stealing the chord structure from ‘In the City’ for their track ‘Holidays in the Sun’.

The sound is fine, although I may not hearing as clearly as other listeners because I'm using crappy speakers on a tablet. The only difference I can hear with the new microphone is that it's picking up more of the room ambience than the old one did.

My favourite Jam album - Along with The Clash, I tend to think that they were a great punk band who didn't have the ideas to move beyond the genre - I realise that this is not mainstream opinion! Still hoping for you to do the debut Generation X album (with Billy Idol) which might just be my favourite UK punk LP. (Also not mainstream opinion but who wants to swim in the same stream as everyone else?)

The Jam sound fine, worth further listening (although I have to admit that’s still pending with me after 40+ years). Your set is looking good, with the familiar backdrop still there as a side-fill (a watermark, trademark on your videos?). Intrigued to know if the door is liable to offer surprise guests or mysterious footwear silhouetted beneath it? I like the new background with the opportunity to vary the album sleeves etc. as mood or relevance requires. 🙏

Set comments... - The thumbnail is less recognizable and stands out less - Things look a bit messy. Too much going on visually, with the door and floor visible - The camera is not stable and you're shaking it! Makes it look like the whole room is shaking! 😂 - That little animated LCD panel at the back is waaaay too small now! - On the plus, I like that we now see some of your record collection!
