45 years later and this song sounds as fresh, and as fkn brilliant, as it ever did. The musical equivalent of a Ronnie O’Sullivan 147

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou! I have never stopped listening to this song and album and love that I've just found this video. This song always reminds me of working in Germany in 1981 when I was 18yrs. My God that was a long time ago now, but this song does not age for me. Bless you.

Bruce Foxton is surely one of the finest rock bassists of his time. But the entire band was peerless. The Jam's rock solid & intuitive rhythm section provided an ideal platform for Weller's gifted & visionary songwriting & delivery. I was conscripted into a South African mechanized infantry battalion at age 17, & after training & attacks into Namibia & Angola, emerged a very different person a few years later. Several of my former relationships with other people no longer existed, & the remainder were irrevocably altered to varying degrees. I therefore totally identified with this song & love The Jam to this day. Paul Weller has pretty much written the soundtrack to my life. To all who read this, I extend my love & hope you stay safe 🤗

Times were so tough, but not as tough as they are now We were so close and nothing came between us, and the world No personal situations Thick as thieves us, we'd stick together for all time And we meant it but it turns out just for a while We stole, the friendship that bound us together We stole from the schools and their libraries We stole from the drugs that sent us to sleep We stole from the drink that made us sick We stole anything that we couldn't keep And it was enough, we didn't have to spoil anything And always be as thick as thieves Like a perfect stranger, you came into my life Then like the perfect lone ranger, you rode away, rode away Rode away, rode away We stole the love from young girls in ivory towers We stole autumn leaves and summer showers We stole the silent wind that says you are free We stole everything that we could see But it wasn't enough, and now we've gone and spoiled everything Now we're no longer as thick as thieves You came into my life Then like a perfect stranger you walked away, walked away Walked away, walked away Thick as thieves us, we'd stick together for all time And we meant it but it turns out just for awhile We stole the friendship that bound us together We stole the burning sun in the open sky We stole the twinkling stars in the black night We stole the green belt fields that made us believe We stole everything that we could see But something came along that changes our minds (we're no longer thick as thieves) I don't know what and I don't know why (we're not thick as we used to be) But we seemed to grow up in a flash of time (we're no longer thick as thieves) While we watched our ideals helplessly unwind (we're not thick as we used to be) No, we're no longer as thick as thieves, no We're not as thick as we used to be, no We're no longer as thick as thieves, no We're not as thick as we used to be No it wasn't enough, and now we've gone and spoiled everything Now we're no longer as thick as thieves (I would like to thank my keyboard for this, particularly the letters C and V and even more especially the Ctrl key).

I don’t understand the video on this track WTF.
@nateoliver78773 ай бұрын
I think it's meant to evoke the idea of young men being forced to 'grow up' too fast, a theme that was explored several times on the Setting Sons album. They're taking one last look at familiar places before being trained for war.

@@nateoliver7877 I get your point,I’ve seen the video to When your young showing young kids so I see your reasoning,but maybe I was waiting for a punch line at the end.But I still love it thanks for your comment.
