Top band, top song. One of the first to inflame me when I was driving my first car! I must have been 18 and this song was already 'old'... but college radio was still good in the late 80s/early 90s. Paul is playing an OLD Rickenbacker 360F (F nomenclature meaning 'full size').

This must come from their final tour of Japan, mid-1982. It was burn out time for Weller after this and The Jam broke up soon. A friend of mine once said that no good record, except 'Fools Gold' by the Stone Roses, has ever been made since December 1982 and the break-up of The Jam. He is wrong of course, but the fact he even said it, shows what a great band The Jam were.

@blacksunfish Interesting information! Still, 'nomenclature'! You could have just said 'short for'! Did you go to Eaton by any chance heheh?
Just look at the Happydaystown from the Small Faces and see the very similar filming techniques. In fact this reminds me of them alot - probably not having as much fun in the 70's as the 60's

@tomdav97 I agree that the bassline is good, but credit must be given where due and in this case it's largely nicked from the Supremes song "You Can't Hurry Love", played by the incomparable James Jamerson. Jamerson played the great melodic bass on many Motown hits and songs, including "My Girl". He was often uncredited and did not receive the royalties he should have, as well as credits, which probably led to his alcoholism and death at 47. Too bad this venerable song is lip-synched...
