It's that way whenever you translate from one language to another. The power and even meaning of the words can get lost in translation.

He did that for Suleiman. He knows that he loves Hurrem and to make sure that no opponent of the dynasty will use Leo to embarrass the reputation of Suleiman he silences him. A similar situation happens to Firuze after knowing she's a member of the Safavid dynasty Ibrahim gets enraged because of the scandal it brings to the Sultan.

In a way he did it to save hurrem from the real wrath of Suleiman. The fact that he did it instead of Suleiman made sure that he never found out about them.

It's not widely known but the janissary core was a power unto itself until the year 1836 when the Sultan of the time Abdullah the second I believe it was called in foreign mercenaries and had them wiped out

Mahmud II did it, disbanded the Jannisary to pave way for a modern Army. Alas, too little too late because the Europeans by then no longer fear the once mighty Ottoman Empire.

@@spthepero2282 In the early days of the Ottoman Empire, it was the jannisaries successful adoption of gunpowder weapons vs the more primitive Eastern European armies that gave them such fearsome reputation. Plus the religious zeal instilled in them since childhood gave 'em morale advantage. But as time goes by, the jannisaries did not evolve but stuck to their traditions like the samurais of Japan. Austria-Hungary eventually surpassed the Ottomans but unable to push beyond their borders into Turkish territories is another topic too long for YT comments section.
