When I travel, I tend to pack a weatherproof poncho with a hood. It’s a bit easier to store in your normal luggage and light to wear when/if the rain suddenly stops. I would suggest a color in black or navy blue so you don’t stick out so much. 🎩 🐍 no step on snek!🇺🇸🇭🇰

To go to Japan you really just have to PLAN AHEAD. I looked for hotels in a similar style to yours just a few weeks ago, and was surprised at the huge price difference from booking 6 to 12 months in advance. On my own, I could stay in a relatively nice hotel in Akihabara for a week (breakfast and own bathroom included) for about 650 dollars. That is insane.

Lmao, hearing your story about the little kid at the Sky Tree, reminds me of when I went to the big park near Shibuya (like, I THINK it WAS Shibuya's MAIN park), and I got some ice cream at one of the park food spaces, and this Japanese mom invited me over to sit with her and her son (the mom, as you'll soon see kinda had some STRONG 'ara ara' vibes to how she treated me, lmao... me, the at the time, 23yo). She had her son say 'hi' in English, and she did so as well, and when she saw me get some ice cream on my face, she gave me some tissues/napkins with a smile. there was some SUPER small talk (which was nice) but overall I just kinda sat there (since my Japanese, especially at that time wasn't exactly amazing or anything) and ate my ice cream, as both smiled at me, and then after I finished, we all waved to each other and said our goodbyes. A bit later I saw her with a man I believe to be her husband, and he wasn't exactly the happiest looking guy as he looked sourly in my direction, but the mom/wife didn't seem to care about his attitude, lol. I REALLY hope I didn't make him think I was going to NTR his wife, lmao. Don't worry my guy, my tall baka gaijin ass isn't like that. The metro is... incredible. The first night getting to Tokyo it didn't make any sense (since it was 12 or so at night, and I JUST got off the plane) and this AMAZING woman on the train made SURE I got off at the right stop and found where I needed to go, risking missing her train. God bless her, I hope that wonderful woman is doing well. That's another thing: EVERYONE I met was just, a 10/10 person. ALL absolutely incredible. AFTER that, the next day, I figured it out with a 97% or success rate, and how did I do so? No joke: Persona 5. I knew how to work it and get around due to P5, lmao It's funny how 'stressed' Akihabara made you, since I lived there, and god did I love it. ALL the stores in the area got used to me and treated me more like a resident than a tourist, and got used to my daily routines, the maids were really nice and never 'harassed' me to come to the cafes, and I got AMAZING deals at certain places for rare stuff (got a LOT of statues for a buck or two each.) Basically: I love Akihabara, and consider it my home away from home, lol ALSO! You didn't go to the Dragon's Quest Lawsons?? OR MENTION Lawsons at all, the BEST convenience store?! Lmao, ALL joking aside, LOVED the video, Loli. SO glad you got to go, and that you had a great time! Was SUPER hyped for the vid, and I feel you did a FANTASTIC job on it! 10/10! Super comfy, and a really great watch.

I went in 2016 when I was still in the Marines. I was on the MSG program which is where you guard embassies. I hadn’t take a vacation in 2 years and region command ordered me to take leave as I had to many days. In addition the G7 summit was going on so my time in Japan went from 2 weeks to 3 weeks as I spent my first week in Hiroshima as part of John Kerry’s security detail. Afterwards I took the bullet train to Tokyo and stayed at the Hotel Niwa. A nice modern western style hotel with a Lawsons next door. Being on my own and a big anime fan I spent 70% of my days in Akihabara and ended up having to buy a second suitcase for all the figures, models, and doujins I bought. At night I visited bars and pubs both traditional with menus entirely in Japanese and one’s with English menus. All in all it was the trip I always wanted to take of course And since it was the one vacation I always dreamed of spent 14,000 dollars in total for the very best of everything from first class flights to an authentic painting which I still have hanging in my living room to this day.

But I barely managed to pay off a 6 year credit card debt with some money saved left over for trips with friends/family back home. Point is I can’t afford to go anywhere too crazy…I can’t spend more than 3K in total right now or else I’ll be putting myself at risk again. So going with him to Thailands a missed opportunity for me right now My immediate plan was using the VA shit to go back to school for Automotive’s. My dude, you barely scratched the surface of what good Japanese food is. What you ate was probably a 4/10 and I'm not even talking about the super expensive, one table only, book a year in advance, kind of restaurants. You need to go again and this time, don't spend more than half your trip in Tokyo. This may sound strange, but Tokyo and Japan are completely different experiences.

I really appreciate this, since I actually plan on going to Japan w/ some friends fairly soon. I've got some travel trips myself; To help with jet lag preemptively; if at all possible, before you go to the place you want to go, start sleeping earlier or later every day until your body adjusts to the time zone of where you're traveling to. Do this in hour increments each day, one for every hour behind or ahead this place is. In some cases this simply isn't plausible, but it does help when you can get it to work out. Otherwise, taking a few days to just let your body adjust without conditioning is usually the way to go, although it will constantly feel like you're dying throughout that adjustment period. Always always ALWAYS bring a set of good shoes to walkable areas. I went walking through Germany and Luxembourg, and even with my good shoes my shit hurted. I empathize with your pain, dude
