Hi @BBC Reel, I think there is some issues with the audio mixing in this video. If you play the audio for this video in mono, many of the speaking voices from the interview with the guy would just be gone and completely cannot be heard. From my understanding, this can happen when the left and right audio signals destructively cancel each other when mixed into monosound, and which produces distorted/muffled sound. I have some hearing issues with one of my ear, so I play videos with accessibility settings enabled to mix stereo/surround sound into monosound. I hope your audio engineer can figure out a setup that would avoid these kinds of issues in future videos 😀

I think the fact he says he does nothing makes it easier for people to hire him because there are no strings attached, they don’t have to do anything either when they’re with him, they can be themselves, they can experience what it’s like just sitting next to someone and enjoy their presence without any other expectations. @___xyz___2 жыл бұрын
Actually, I think "Doing nothing guy" is genius branding in its own right. As other people have written, he often steps into the role as a sort of "therapist". And the common experience almost all people have with therapists is a person who literally does nothing but sit and listen to you. So instead of going to a therapist, people would rather just hire a person who purports to do the exact same thing, only explicitly. It simply makes more sense. Especially for women. I can't count the number of times I've been asked out only to be someone to whom they can vent all their troubles. And it honestly doesn't bother me. But in a society like Japan, where people are so incredibly busy with work and interests, merely being a person who is virtually present in somebody's life is marketable. It has an inherent commercial value, because it's rare to come by even though everyone needs it.

If I'm eating dinner alone at a fancy restaurant then I'm divorced and depressed, etc). This actually influences how I get treated/served at certain establishments. I spend a lot of time alone. I have had my trust broken with people many times. I have often thought that if I could afford it I would hire someone to do just what he is doing. Just follow me around places and keep me company on errands. I would know that they are there because they are being paid and not get emotionally attached to someone who has no intention of sticking around. But I would not feel so lonely and trapped in my own mind. I admire what he does and that he has strong enough personal boundaries to respect his clients needs.

@Skywolve19982 жыл бұрын
It takes a pretty unique person to provide a service like this. You have to be someone who's presence is so entirely non-offensive that you can fit into so many scenarios. Plus there's a need to be reserved. Him not talking unless they start a conversation seems pretty difficult for an outgoing person. Also for him to help with the people who just need to talk to someone about heavy topics, he has to be a really good listener.

He's doing something really important. I hope he can see that and that he's just being humble. He's providing dependable, non-judgmental, and non-threatening companionship. It's interesting to me that his clients express anxiety about doing certain activities with friends and feelings of social isolation, and yet they're willing to go on camera to state this. I also find the youth of these clients interesting. In the US, we have this sort of thing for elderly people, though it's typically social visits within their homes on a volunteer basis and running errands. People don't pay you for "doing nothing". He's providing a vital service.
@TheHothotheatlive2 жыл бұрын
I don't think any of his clients said they were socially isolated - they said lonely which is different. They seem like typical confident adults with multiple friends/social circles that drift apart from time to time, are busy, are not into that particular kind of event, etc... Life is harsh when people start work, start having families, and start having less time for each other (especially in Asia with crazy work schedules). Even online, lots of Americans bemoan friendships falling away & schedules falling apart once you're no longer students. There's now Bumble BFF and Meetup groups to try and meet people into the same kind of events/hobbies as you. The kind of young, socially isolated people you might be thinking of are called hikkikomoris (sp?) where there are services to try and bring them out of their shell and into the real world as well. There are videos of those on KZbin. But that's different

He's doing a lot of things. I wouldn't say he's doing "nothing" at all. Maybe in their culture because he's not going to a full time job, they say it's "nothing" but for anyone who's ever been disabled and doesn't work, or for anyone who just gets paid by the government to LITERALLY do nothing this is actually a lot more than just "nothing". I'm disabled and quite literally feel like I do nothing, so in my eyes, he's a good dude doing a lot of good things for a lot of people. I feel like his title is very depressing and he should be very proud of his dedicated work.
@YourMajesty1432 жыл бұрын
@@D1_Tactical - People like you totally missed the unspoken skills he does have. He has way more restraint than most people, considering we're social animals and we're conditioned to break silences out of a built-in fear of social awkwardness. He doesn't seem to have this problem. Also, he's a chameleon. Each session, he turns himself into the person that different people need him to be. Not everyone can do that. He also provides his service with no-strings attached. NOBODY in our personal lives does this. There's always a needs-based exchange happening in relationships. You invest your time in exchange for someone's friendship, you offer help in exchange for building trust, you offer advice in exchange for someone to look up to you, and so on & so forth. This man doesn't expect anything from you other than payment. A true "no-obligation, no-expectation, no relationship-demands" service. That level of pure service without needing to return a favor is INVALUABLE. It's incredibly liberating to get a form of help or company without concern over what you'll have to offer in return. In my opinion, he's not charging enough. I dare any of you to look into the expenses that come with maintaining your relationships, whether romantic, platonic, and familial. IT AIN'T CHEAP! It costs alot to have a social life. For some people, it saves them money, time, and energy to live alone on their own terms and not have to make silent deals & contracts everytime they interact with loved ones. It's exhausting. Finding someone who can be present and not need anything from you, that's RARE. So no, I don't believe for a second that ANYBODY does this already. There's a cost to those kinds of bonding experiences. If the cost isn't in dollars, I ASSURE you that you'll pay in your time & energy. Nothing is free.
