Yeah, I've seen these arguments before... It's one of those things that brings up half-truths and only partial information that supports the idea. Can I say that the Jedi are the good and pure individuals? No, not by a long shot. But it's the fact that there's no such thing as purely good and purely evil. Was the empire all bad? No, it wasn't. But there's no denying they were terrible at it. For example: You bring up the killing Alderan not being so bad, BUT they DID build the Death Star under Palpatine's orders and it was meant to be an instrument of fear to keep the planets under their control. It's easy to lay blame on Leia for the destruction of Alderan, but she wasn't truly responsible for it. A well known, inhabited planet was always going to be a target. There's even a chance it would have been the selected planet anyway. Alderan was just their way of killing two birds with one stone. Besides, after Leia said which planet the rebels were on (remember, he didn't know she was lying) Tarkin said, "You may fire when ready. You're far too trusting." The point of destroying Alderan was to demonstrate their power. Kind of a "don't let this happen to you" message to everyone. And to answer your question about Jabba the Hut gaining that power; he's not followed for his muscle. The guy knows his art of the trade, the art of the deal. He probably started with a few small time thugs and gave them some ideas on how they could get a big score. They discovered with his brains, they achieved what they could never do without him, so they followed him. Word spread that this guy could get you what you want with his planning. He probably even talked some of them out of trouble and that's what they wanted in a leader. Studying history, you'll find most leaders were NOT followed for their MUSCLE.

Is this meant seriously? First(in a list) - Empire destroyed Alderaan just because Leia gave up the abandoned Dantooine base which was too far away. Billions dead. On a whim, to demonstrate their superiority? That's OK, yeah? Emperor - with Vader, systematically exterminated the Jedi, children and all. Empire liquidated the Senate so that local governors would rule their systems by fear. "Fear of this battle station" - the "DEATH STAR" which again, committed mass genocide just because Leia's answer was too "remote"? I get heavy "I'm young n edgy and too cool for school vibes" from this. Palpatine wanting a safe secure society? Yeah, Hitler and all dictators proclaim that they want peace and security. Yeah. How does one accomplish that? By destroying any naysayers or political opponents and threatening dire "justice" should anyone cross the line. Plus he looks like Satan. I'll grant you the Jedi are hardly innocent of deceit etc, but despite your insistence, Palpatine didn't get into power because he was deemed the right guy for the job. He TOOK power over years of sneaky, clandestine machinations. Like, did you actually watch the prequels? They're all pretty much about how he twisted the system into becoming supreme super king of the universe. Even saying that once more the "Sith will rule the galaxy." I hope you're just kidding to get folk like me to take the bait and go on a rant, but if you truly believe that your idea is the "real" version of events, then I wouldn't purport to be this super duper genius who "gets" films better than anyone else, even the writers. @Bruce_K Жыл бұрын
The thugs threatened Luke in the bar and they were wanted criminals with death sentences. Obi-Wan had every right to cut off the guy’s arm. How is that wrong? If someone comes up to you in a bar and says “my friend doesn’t like you and I don’t like you either,” a wise person would be ready to pull a gun or knife or a broken bottle and take out the scumbag. All Luke said was “I’m sorry (you all don’t like me)” and “I’ll be careful” and the guy said “you’ll be dead.” A direct threat of violence. He deserved to lose an arm and a lot more. If you don’t want to lose an arm, keep your mouth shut and don’t touch a stranger in a bar and act hostile or threatening to some farm boy sitting at a bar quietly minding his own business and not even looking at you. Obi-Wan tried to defuse the situation and said “this little one isn’t worth the effort. Here, let me get you something (a drink).” I liked your theory about Fight Club and think it’s absolutely true, but this is complete nonsense and ignores the whole context of the situation. Also Anakin WAS evil and willing to massacre innocent people for no reason out of rage. His opinions about the Jedi are irrelevant like Hitler’s opinions about British imperialism. His dialogue with Padme is cringe-worthy talking about how he would just impose his will by force like a dictator.

I'm late to your party here, but here's my take. I haven't seen the new movies, they pissed me off when they said all the books and the original canon mean nothing. You see over the years I've read 80+ star wars books and it took some time and they mean alot to me. Anyways, I find what you touch on here to be very interesting. In the books Han marries Lea and they have 3 kids. Jacen and Jaina, twins, and Anakin. Why I bring this up is as they become adults Jacen, who ends up becoming a Sith Lord called Darth Caedus, has a very interesting story arc. He brings out my favorite thing about star wars. Right and wrong is all a point of view. his transformation is slow, it takes years, and one can completely understand it, if you go step by step with him through it. He doesn't just one day decide to be a Sith, he ends up feeling he has no other choice to make things right. I read these throughout my 20's, I'm almost 50 now, and I remember thinking back then, WOW, it was the first time I really saw both sides to a story, and I even agreed with him on many points and thought, would I have gone the same route if in that position? Maybe. I realize they somewhat tried this approach in the prequels with Anakin Skywalker, but as it goes with movies, they just don't have the time to really flesh out the story like it can be done in a book. So I have thought who was right and wrong? Who were the bad guys and good guys? it's not always clear. Anyways, it's funny I got all my SW books at half price books, which is a second hand book store, and I still have them. I just can't seem to let them go. The stories are amazing. Writing this makes me want to go read them all over again...

ou can tell that Lucas was always too much of a Jedi sympathizer. Yeah, Anakin/Darth Vader and the rest of the Empire needed to be punished and stopped for their crimes, but the *ways* in which Obi-Wan and Yoda went about it by recruiting Anakin’s son to do it for them were dangerous, deceitful, manipulative, stalkerish, and unfair to Luke. Yeah, they *say* all the shitty means they are using to recruit train Luke to defeat his father and the Empire are “necessary” for “the greater good,” but Anakin/Vader, Tarkin, and the Emperor all use the *same* defense for using cruel, deceitful, manipulative, and oppressive, and unfair means to try to more easily gain personal freedom, justice, peace, and order for themselves/the Empire from enemies, too. They just happen to be more extreme in their problematic “ends justify the means” methods than the members of the Empire/Sith. Not to mention, the Sith and Empire members are physically more scary looking than the old Jedi/Republic members, and the story is told from two old Jedi Order members biased perspectives. Moreover, the fact that Anakin’s downfall is self-admittedly partially a byproduct of Obi-WAN’s and Yoda’s failures as teachers and mentors implies that their intentions to use Luke to defeat him aren’t truly as selfless as they’d like to believe. They didn’t deserve mass murder, but SW could be so much more fun canonically, if the narrative could just frame both the Jedi/Republic and Sith/Empire as deeply fucked up extremist governments/institutions that need to reform to find a healthy middle ground. If you ignore the sequels, and accept Legends as canon for Luke’s new Order instead, you can come to the conclusion that is what happened after the OT movies. To be fair, I do think that Lucas wanted to tell the story that both sides were flawed, but also kind of chickened out because he was more interested in writing for children audiences. Unfortunately, Disney took over after that, which is why they keep going with the Jedi Way=Good and Sith=Bad narrative, and keeps the conflict between their toxic extremes alive in both organizations in canon.

Would the Jedi destroy a planet because someone stole their secrets? Should the galaxy be owned by one Sith Lord, or does absolute power corrupt absolutely? I'm saying that the Jedi's ends justify their imperfect means. Fascism is about as bad as it gets. Lucas making a good sounding argument in favor of the Sith is just realistic story telling; every successful monster has a convincing rationale.

The Empire actually did alot of evil.... The new star wars is dead. I'm still open to old star wars things being valid. In that material they discuss how xenophobic and brutal the empire was. They wiped out entire races, worked some races to death and split up families. The individual governor's were brutal and corrupt. Vader himself butchered innocents. It was crazy

Bro it's amazing how we can make extremely different perspectives with no context, but then again... the context we do get from the movie is precisely what makes up our general perspective of the story... and this story is told from the Jedi's perspective... fuck, what is real? lol good video man
@JuryRigGarage4 жыл бұрын
At 3:11 bruh the empire is bad because they literally enslave everyone and abuse their citizens. Palpatine (being the unkown Sith lord in the prequels) instigated the genocide of the Dathomir, the Jedi and many others. At 4:23 the Jedi were mad at Palpatine for starting a galactic war, playing both sides to subvert the Jedi order and take control of the galaxy for purely evil reasons. They were aware of a Sith lord and new the clone wars were fabricated by the Sith, they just didn't know who it was until the end of episode 3. The galaxy was not about to be at peace, it was a manufactured war that was intentionally ending and controlled by 1 person. At 4:37 Luke wanted to join the flight school because it was the only opportunity he would have to leave Tatooine, lots of people joined and became rebels. Many storm troopers were not aware of the empires evil intentions, they used propaganda and fear to keep them in line. At 6:29 Anakin was no more and irredeemable to Obi and Yoda, it was like Vader wasn't Luke's father. This is where the story comes into play. Luke sees the good in Vader and is able to flip him, redeeming Anakin. All of this does not take away the fact the Jedi were huge hypocrites. Star wars is all about perspective. George definitely didn't ruin the series, the prequels were badly made but the story was great and set the foundation for what makes Star Wars great. The main episodes do a good job of establishing the story but I think you really need to watch the clone wars and rebels to fully understand the story (these shows really show the direction Lucas and Filoni wanted to take the series).

Exactly. Blowing up billions of people like that is literally genocide. How can you say genocide isn't evil? The UN has said it is. In fact, every person with a decently-formed conscience shouldn't even have to wait for any institution on Earth to tell them it is wrong. People with decently formed-consciences already know genocide is intrinsically wrong.

If you're interested in the idea that the Jedi are evil, read the book "Plagueis". It takes you from when Darth Plagueis was an apprentice to his master (Darth Tenebrous) all the way to when Darth Sidious kills Plagueis, which takes place between Episode 1 and 2. It fills in SOOOO MANY MISSING PIECES in the series, gives amazing back story and provides perspective on why the Sith act as they do. It's filled with "Sith Thinking" that gives extremely well thought out reasons for why they act as they do, and it's very similar to what Mr Antilogic gives us here. It's one of my favorite books and makes the first 6 movies MUCH better.

Considering the entire planet is pro empire and has maximum 1k rebels in it which seems very unlikley from the material given The empire and (most) siths evil are honest and proactive The jedis evil is hypocritical and self delusional its why yoda saw order 66 and let it happen and why the jedi had to be destroyed it was a major plot point in legends post episode 6 content as luke had to remake the order away from the cultist dogmatic view of previous jedi orders

I'm halfway through and the points are low effort bait tier. There is an argument to be made that the Jedi became too intertwined with the Republic government and the luxurious core worlds, but that's an argument they were soft and complacent not they were evil. I recall there being a plotpoint in the prequels of diminished connection to the Force among the Jedi masters, and considering connection to the Force is connection to effectively divine will... Small wonder they became lost and in the absence of revelation they started filling the gaps with nonsense. If the taking small children thing is pointed out, an affinity to the Force means awareness of connection to all things. Without training and discipline, it's easy to imagine how a child could be corrupted by being able to subtly manipulate and coerce those around them as they unconsciously exploit their spiritual connection. There has to be a healthier way of going about it, but there was a reasoning behind the kid grabbing.

I always thought that the point of the prequels is that the Jedi were massively flawed. They were power hungry and stagnant in their old ways that obviously didn’t work because the sith was able to overpower an entire order with just 2 Sith Lords and a few sith assassins.
@DiogoJ13 жыл бұрын
They weren't power hungry, and stagnancy doesn't make you evil. Not to mention that the Sith have been preparing their downfall for centuries. So, everything that went wrong in the prequels, were the doing of the Sith to begin with.

If you honestly think that the sequels aren’t bad and the OT are, you should probably give up reviewing films. No malice toward you personally, maybe you should just do something else. BTW The Jedi being complacent and open to corruption is part and parcel of the entire story, this isn’t a revelation, it’s built into George’s story. Your critique is taking some huge logical leaps saying things like they kidnapped the kids and mind tricked people. This isn’t logic this is just reaching.

@whatisantilogic138 Жыл бұрын
I think it's about scale. Our politicians drop bombs on towns and cities all the time. In the SW universe there are thousands of planets, so 1 planet is like 1 city. I'm not saying it's not bad for the empire to do it, I'm just saying that it's not evil because they didn't just do it unprovoked. If you steal nuclear codes or something like that, and they threaten to blow up your hometown if you don't give them back, then it's kinda your fault for trying to call their bluff.
