I really think that Atari should have just had the 2600+ plays only 2600 games, and then have the 7800+ play both. But the sheer amount of homebrew games being made for the 7800 is giving it a lot more life, and making getting one a much more worthwhile console.

Jeff what the fuck I was trying to go through my whole life without knowing the plot of Jumping Jack Flash. I would always see the cover art for that movie in video stores back in the day, and in my head canon it was her that was named Jumping Jack Flash.

My favorite peter Molyneux memory was an e3 trailer for fable 3 (if i'm remembering correctly) where your character could reach out and hold hands with other characters. He made that mechanic sound so cool but it was so dumb.

Hyping the fact that you brought the old team back, when there name is still 22cans, the same people that scammed the winner of the cube and abandoned Godus, it was not a good move by Molyneux, but when was he ever smart enough to not fall into easy traps.

My parents bought me a 7800 as a kid because it would play all the games they'd bought me for the 2600. Can confirm my memories lack fondness when every other living room in the neighborhood had a Nintendo

What games were he involved in. Because everything I've read about him is he's a photo shy internet addict, who makes bold claims on the Spawncast, has Screen wave as a MCN, had a bunch of failed youtube channels stretching back a decade, and is know to basically just post guesses online as "leaks" that rarely turn out to have not already been sourced weeks or months earlier by someone else. And half the time turn out to be bunk. He might be a nice guy, not sure - but as a 'leaker' or 'insider', he's a shady character imo. If he made anything cool, I'd be interested.

I was one of the 10 people that had a 7800, and one of the 2 that liked it, lol. Since I didn't buy the 2600 + I probably would opt for the 7800 aesthetic. I played lots of Choplifter and Food Fight

@JazGalaxy

I can almost guarantee you that they did a survey and Eternal Champions won. Jeff’s rant against EC was delusional. It wasn’t a good game. But being a good game has absolutely nothing to do with being a movie that sells tickets. And a LOT of people have mindshare for Eternal Champions.

It clearly says "Return of Molyneux" but somehow my brain translates it to "Molyneux have spent his money". I hope the "self funded" part is Molyneux funding it and not those other devs lol because you know... that would be funny in the saddest way possible.

About UK people liking your content. Most Americans have no idea about micros, they've been raised on Nintendo. Your perspective is different in that sense.
@JazGalaxy
@JazGalaxy 2 ай бұрын
It’s more complicated than that. But yeah. It’s disturbing the number of American people who think they are “amateur video game historians” and have no understanding of the medium at all. They have a very specific “80s suburban kid” perspective that goes NES/Genesis/Playstation (I’m simplifying) and that’s it.

If it helps bring any brit peace - some of us had micros too (including a C64, RadioShack micro and even a Speccy). I am grateful I enjoyed games such as Dizzy's Adventure and Chips Challenge as a kid. I also had a NES tho too, so I've always had a foot in both sides of the pond in that regard.

I knew companies often impose terms but big yikes for that PR firm giving freee keys to Wukong. Don't talk about feminism or fetishes, alright buddy (sheesh)! Well there is a positive, IGN did actual investigative journalism. I had read about it and I'm glad Jeff also mentioned it. A 7800+ is probs just a new shell but same gubbins inside. To a lesser degree these days I'm a home computer and retro console dabbler. I don't have the physical space, it's not a productive use of money, time, nor do i have inclination for repairs... I'm not a fan of those replica and mini consoles, i find them throwaway junk with little use. I don't have one but the Mister FPGA Jeff has is a absolutely fantastic. There's a guy called Taki Udon making cheaper more available clone DE10 nano board (the FPGA that Mister uses) and even planning a handheld. It's not vapourware as it's been prototyped and is in pre production. Things like the Mega SG look cool and work but the utility is not there compared to a Mister. Duckstation PS1 emulator is also fantastic, especially when you crank up the internal resolution, widescreen hack and use a gte hack for the texture wobble (or leave it for the nostalgia). Especially fuck those AT games Sega plug and plauges. Commodore C64 and Amiga things too, just emulate. Like straight up don't even buy old actual Commodore hardware because that stuff is overpriced, repairs are common, there's a whole ecosystem for expansions and hardware you would want because tapes and floppies suck... Running trapdoor accelerators that cost a lot and are more powerful than the actual machine! Let me plug an FPGA into my a1200 or stick a Raspberry pi in my BBC Master 128 that could easily emulate all that. Atari 7800 was shit, 2 years too late. Sticking the pokey music chip as an optional extra on the game cartridge instead of having just one or two for stereo built into the system, was a questionable choice and a waste. The 5800 is shit too. Aside from the gnarly controler, it's just the Atari 8 bit home computer hardware in a weird console factor thats bigger than an actual 600xl or 800xl (which is actually a fantastic machine). Atari got weird when Jack Tramiel formerly of Commodore bought the console and computer hardware side of Atari Corporation. There was also Warner Bros owned Atari Games at the same time, who kept the arcade and game stuff.

The H2M mod getting a C&D is only half the story. Everyone knew about this mod, it had been talked about for over a year. It had been put out in various alpha/beta states and distributed to the community. Finally it gets a release date and everyone is excited. The game gets discounted on Steam and rockets up to #3 on the sales chart. Then, on the eve of release, the sale ends and Activision issues their C&D. Activision was more than happy to ride the wave of hype the mod had going for it and even exploit it for extra sales. Hopefully all the people that got fleeced can get a refund. Typical Activision scumbag behavior.

Wu-Kong is just okay. This same thing has happened before, where Chinese people utterly bombard a game with hype / reviews, positive or negative. I can think of the indie games Devotion and Detention that got equally giga-praise and giga-review bombed. It's not amazing, but it's definitely competent and looks pretty. It's not as good as Elden Ring, Lies of P, etc. Not worthy of all the hype, but definitely a great release.
