The Jeffersons remains one of the most underrated sitcoms of all-time. A great cast, great writing and so many wonderful episodes . I miss those days when sitcoms were good and funny .

Most of my favorite ones featured Mother Jefferson.Her role reminds me of Mother Kramden, in the Honeymooners(She lived to be 103/1893-1997. Ethel Owen, was her name). There was an episode, where Louise had awful news to tell George:The Dr. told her she'd live to be 100.It was awful news, because she felt she'd be living a long, empty life.I believe that episode was originally meant for Mother Jefferson's part--and was true in real life.She likely began neglecting her health during her noticeable absence from the show.The scripts probably weren't to her liking and good taste, either. She was born in 1892-1978.Zara Cully Brown was her name. She was born the same year as Zamah Cunningham, who played Mrs.Mannicotti, in the Honeymooners(1892-1967). William Demerest, who played Uncle Charlie, in My 3 sons, lived to 91(1892-1983).The actor who played Tom Willis' Uncle Betram, and the love interest of Mother Jefferson, who called her 'toots', was born in 1891.He was murdered in 1979, at 88.

The Florence role(played very well by the great Marla Gibbs)......stole the show from everyone. That's why Marla Gibbs was able to spin-off with her own show, after The Jefferson's came to a end.

Nope. Her spin off happened During the Jeffersons run and tanked. Barely lasted a season and she returned to the Jeffersons. In fairness, CBS barely promoted her spin off and changed its slot 3 times in 10 weeks. Its failure was definitely Not due to any lack of talent on Marla's half !
