The Jeffersons | Lionel and Jenny Are Splitting Up! | The Norman Lear Effect

The Jeffersons (Isabel Sanford and Sherman Hemsley) get the news that Lionel and Jenny (Mike Evans and Berlinda Tolbert) are separating, so they team up with the Willises (Franklin Cover and Roxie Roker) to try and get the couple back together.
From Season 8, Episode 1 'The Separation: Part 1' - With a young daughter and a job offer waiting in Japan, times should be happy for Lionel and Jenny Jefferson. But they're far from happy; in fact, they're so happy they've agreed to a separation. This sets none to well with the Jeffersons or the Willises, who are determined to get at the root of the matter ... or in George's case, meddle to the point where they have to get back together.

I like these episodes best, that featured Mike Evans as the original Lionel. He left the show to help create the sitcom "Good Times," that was based on his real-life story as Michael Evans & the Evans family. Then he later returned to the show. RIP Mike Evans...

Lionel and Jenny never took their time to know each other. Just because George and Louise were best friends with Tom and Helen doesn't mean Lionel and Jenny had to get together, let alone get married.

Lionel and Jenny met each other, started dating and got engaged before the 2 sets of parents ever met each other. Check out the All In The Family Episode "Lionel's Engagement" to see the fireworks. (Jenny and her parents were played by different actors though)

Wasn't there an episode of Jenny and lionel where lionel went crazy? Jenny flashed back and the screen blurried up and the acted out the scene where lionel was holding their baby off the balcony by his shirt and jenny carrying on, the screen blurried back with jenny crying and said, "AND HE DROPPED HIM..." ????
