Actually I saw a pretty reasonable theory as to why Philip rings the bell when he comes out of his invisibility. Basically it said that he rings the bell to warn the survivors of his arrival because he failed to ring the bell to warn his village of- idk who killed them all I didn't read the lore but anyways he rings the bell to warn the survivors because he doesn't actually want to kill them, he's just forced to by The Entity

I remember a modified or maybe the same theory where a person said that while the wraith works like any other killer (sees the survivors as more of an inconvenience than actual people) he still hits the bell out of guilt for letting his friends down, he enjoys killing, but gives the survivors a chance that he failed to give his friends.

Honestly the idea of having a sexuality not existing within the entity's realm was interesting in the beginning. I remember one of the devs mentioning it, because why wouldn't you do anything to distract yourself from the fact that you're gonna be playing a deadly game of tag in the near future. What I mean by this is the devs said that the characters by themselves have been stuck there for a long time now, and may have tried things they wouldn't have done otherwise.
