This video offers a slide-illustrated succinct overview of our explorations of the two tombs in Jerusalem in the area just south of the Old City called Talpiot. What we have discovered and what the implications might be for locating the family tomb of Jesus.
These discoveries are fully documented in our 2012 book, The Jesus Discovery (www.amazon.com...) as well as in the on-line published academic ASOR conference paper here available for download: bibleinterp.ar...
This lecture was part a Biblical Archaeology Society seminar, publishers of the premiere archaeology magazine, Biblical Archaeology Review. It is used with permission.
I encourage viewers to subscribe to the incredible BAS Library, with thousands of articles, books, and videos. There is nothing like this rich archive that covers every major topic and discovery for more than 40 years. Unlimited access to the library is available for a small annual subscription price, see: www.baslibrary....

In the first lockdown in the UK I enrolled at the Israel Bible Centre to do an online course. One New Testament lesson discussed Luke 9:58-60 where Christ invites a man to “Come join us?” and the man said “Let me first go and bury my Father”. Christ replies “Let the dead bury their own dead…….” I had always struggled with what I deemed to be the harshness of the Lord’s words. But, when it was explained it cleared up any confusion, and doubts. Apparently, the culture was, when a person died, there was a proper burial normally within 24 hours of death. The body would remain in the stone tomb until all that was left were the bones of the departed. Then, these would be collected and put into the ossuary. Because of the purity laws, there were always certain people who would deal with the dead. So, the man who asked Jesus if he could go and bury his father, most certainly meant the collection of the bones, which didn’t necessarily require the family to be present. You see, many people who know the 10 Commandments, tend to think about the commandant to honour their father and mother, subsequently thinking that Christ was expecting this man to dishonour his father. I am afraid when cultures clash, it can be very difficult to truly understand what the scriptures are saying. And, unfortunately here in the west we do tend to think our ways are the only correct ways. I highly recommend people study the Jewish faith as there’s so much to learn from them, and this truly opens up the bible stories to allow the bible to take on a whole new meaning. 🙏🙏🙏

Jesus told one of the thieves crucified with him that he'd be in Paradise with Jesus that very day and you wouldn't expect his tomb to be empty. The vacant tomb probably isn't that important. As the Transfiguration shows there is something within us that transcends the physical body.

Extremely interesting. Jesus was older than 30 at the time of the crucifiction. He was probably born between 5 and 4 B.C. and A.D. 33 was when he was crucified so Probably around 38 or 39. My mother said about Jesus when I said he might have been married: "Any self-respecting rabbi would have been married!"

They have discovered attestations to Jesus and Mary being married. Also the bible says that while Jesus was on the cross, he told mary " woman behold your son ". " son behold your mother ". Telling the son that he was the man of the family now. And he was responsible for taking care of his mother, brothers, and sisters.

There were two documented lies in the film of Simcha. This cast doubt on the veracity of all claims made by the film. Galon was convicted of a crime despite claims to the contrary. This also undermines credibility. Statisticians have been critical of the methodology (including the original statistician seen in the film). It’s a difficult thing to prove and the fraudulent claims made by some key people involved has likely ruined any possibility of ever proving anything. That’s why it’s bad to tell even one lie. And multiple lies mean the source can’t be believed.

Right from the beginning There were lots of Jesuses, but let's concentrate on Two, The Jesus of history, and the Jesus of faith, we are long past the point where it's reasonable to be agnostic about the so-called Jesus of faith, it's ridiculous to pretend the lack of historical corroboration of the breath-taking events in the Gospels, let alone the NT's own basic contradictions, aren't a Fatal problem for Jesus the divine Son of God. For example; Why does Philo of Alexandria, a Jewish leading scholar with close Ties to Jerusalem ( and who made pilgrimages there ), Discuss the contemporary state of various first century Jewish sects in his writings, but not a word on the multitudes who followed the miracle -worker and radical new teacher Jesus Throughout The Galilee and Judea ? Why does he have nothing to say about the spectacular events that rocked Jerusalem ( As they include a pair of major earth- quakes ), including all the long-dead Jewish saints who emerged from their- Freshly opened graves and wandered the streets of Jerusalem, appearing to many ( Matt. 27:50-54, 28:2 ), Furthermore, Why doesn't any other contemporary Jewish historian, like Justus of Tiberias, or Herod's court historian Nicholas of Damascus ? if Jesus was really found guilty of blasphemy by the Sanhedrin, Why was he not simply stoned to death, As Jewish law required ? Why does Seneca the Younger record all kinds of unusual natural phenomena in the seven books of his Quaestiones Naturales, including eclipses and earthquakes, but no mention of the star of Bethlehem, The pair of earthquakes in Jerusalem that were strong enough to split stones, or the Three hours of darkness that covered '' All the Land '' An event he would have personally witnessed first-hand ? Why didn't any other astronomer take notice at the time ? Why can't the Gospels agree on some basic facts about Jesus's life and ministry, such as what his Relationship to John the Baptist was, and Why was John the Baptist's cult a rival To Christianity until the early second century ? Just Who were Jesus' disciples, and why is it no Gospel agree on who they were ? Why do the disciples disappear So quickly in the N T after the Gospels, only to pop up again centuries later when Churches start spinning rival legends that they were busy Founding various Christian communities, see 2nd Corinthians 11:4 & 1st Corinthians 1:10-13, If any of the disciples were martyred for their faith, as Christianity frequently insist, why don't we have any details of their deaths or where they are buried in the bible ? Why can't the Gospels agree on where and when the events in Jesus' life and ministry took place ? For instance, was he born during the reign of Herod The Great, or over a decade later, during Quirinius' tenure as Governor ? Or where he Travelled during his ministry ? Or Why he was arrested ? Or on which day he died; was it Friday Afternoon the day before Passover, Or Friday morning the day of Passover ? Or where and when he appeared alive again, and to whom, and for how long, was it just a single day ? more than a week ? Or was it For Forty Days ( Acts 1:3 ), ? and why are The Gospel written in Greek, and not Aramaic ? Why do Christians insist That they are eyewitness accounts when none claim to be, or even read as if they were ( Luke 1:3 ) actually say that because many were making declaration about Jesus, it seemed good to me also to do the same ,) Therefore the writer of Luke wasn't himself an eyewitness.

@@abebebizualem8838 we all have our biases, and that's no crime, The problem is that in the case of the believers, their bias is a deal killer, Ask yourself; how many Christians are open to entertain the idea that their lord and saviour they depend on for Their salvation, not to mention their salaries, might never have existed ? if it turns out that the mythicists are wrong, and one day in the future, some good evidence for a real Jesus gets uncovered, it would be no skin of my nose it it turns out There was a real Jesus after all. But Christians can't say the same thing if the reversed is true, and it were later proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Biblical Jesus was a myth.

Compare Jesus with Adolf Hitler. The life of the first was never written during his lifetime; the magnitude of his deeds was kept in the memory of his followers, either direct witness or else. The memory of the writers is what people has dealt with for the last 20 centuries. Hitler, was a monster, and people has forgotten his monster deeds and genocidal plans, and now they are using his memory as an icon for identity. The fact that a scientist, 20 centuries after the events, is still preoccupied with those far events, tells a lot.

I'll believe in the advent of the "christ consciousness", but I'll be damned if I'll believe in someone who must have existed to bring this consciousness into the world. The logic defeats me. Why (or how) would someone purposely invent such a character? And at that, a character that does not echo Jesus' exact teachings, but a pseudo-religion devoid of the key to the spiritual secrets Jesus was crucified for revealing? I understand and view the scriptures as a conveyance of the metaphysical secrets behind the machine of the human imagination and it's understanding of the Divine. All things begin first in the "spiritual realm", the metaphysical. Perhaps the writers of the gospels were attempting to create a myth-story surrounding the character of Jesus in an attempt to deflect attention from his person. There also seems to be a conflict between Jesus being viewed as a roman style hero-god and a messiah figure with a mission to install the millenial kingdom. In between these two lies the truth.

Everything that came after Yehoshua the teacher of what is called the Matthew gospel is of the false christ created after the gospel, after the good news preached in the gospel, that christ is false, a deception its name jesus and its cross never happened except in the man of sins lying epistles, the writings of Paul of tarsus and the rest of the ones who come in the name if jesus and not in the name of God alone as all true lost sheep will. We serve God alone not any christ! I know God, I walk in covenant with God and I Love God. I fear God as well and that is the beginning of Love because until you fear disobeying God and causing God to look upon you in shame so you feel horrible then you can not love Him. I started this walk when I was 32, to look for God. I started to actually begin to find God when I was 39 and sealed myself to God as the gospel tells us to, those of us who listen to the gospel teacher and not the ones who came after him, know to take up the commandments of God and to seek out our roots back to Abraham and to Moses and Yehoshua and the prophets so we become firm in knowledge of what GOD ALONE asked of us. It took me several years of fighting sin and the devil by obeying God. I fought the sin out of me with God's help, by his instructions in the written word. It is a very narrow road and as the mattan/Matthew gospel says very few will find it. We have to fight Satan and the whole world that serves him in sin in order to get out and the one who will help is God alone because we can't trust anyone else. I am with God, God provides for myself and my family and yes there is absolutely evidence BUT not until you absolutely come clean, in thought, word and deed, the absolute opposite of all the lying religions. The gospel was sent down to free us from sin by sending us to our teacher and if you reject it then you are freed from God into sin perpetually and to death spiritually from God which as I can now see is absolutely hell on earth, your light you pretend to have is absolutely darkness caused by your unwillingness to even try to obey God. I speak to 99% of the population. If you can't put everyone first after God and stop yourself from all sin THEN YOUR NOT WORTHY AND YOU ARE ALREADY FINISHED BEFORE YOU EVEN STARTED. So come out of all sun, take up the commandments and begin your battle, call to GOD ALONE, LEARN YOUR ROOTS, BE GOD'S PEOPLE. FIGHT SATAN WHO IS THE SINNERS INNER VOICE, THE CONSCIENCE THAT LEADS YOU TO HURT YOU, that's not you, it's Satan the deceiver. If you come to God and pass the trials cleansing yourself by obedience then GOD WILL BECOME YOUR CONSCIENCE AND YOU WILL LOVE GOD AND HATE SIN, SATAN WILL FLEE FROM YOU. SO there it is. Peace, the ball in in your court Be wary of this world, it is the valley of death, you need God's light and God doesn't dwell with sin or sinners. Not until they begin the journey to stop sin.

Jehohanan (Hebrew: יהוחנן, romanized: Yəhōḥānān) was a man put to death by crucifixion in the 1st century CE. His ossuary was found in 1968 when building contractors working in Giv'at ha-Mivtar, a Jewish neighborhood in northern East Jerusalem, accidentally uncovered a Jewish tomb.[1] The Jewish stone ossuary had the Hebrew inscription "Jehohanan the son of Hagkol" (Hebrew: יהוחנן בן הגקול, romanized: Yehoḥanan ben Hagqol; the meaning of hgqwl is uncertain,[2] hence his name sometimes being given as Johanan ben Ha-galgula).
