If I had to guess, like the other comment said, the universe kept trying to stop Richard in that episode too. The sliding doors didn't open when he tried to go through, the elevator wouldn't open so he had to pry the doors open, then the elevator shut on him several times. Who knows what he had to deal with to get the elevator to reach the right floor. This time around, maybe Gumball and Darwin is the reason why the universe failed to stop him, since he would've probably been fired if those pizzas didn't make it to their destination.
