Mr. McLaughlin says first: speaking about the critics of the Mahavishnu Orchestra saying it wasn't jazz: "who's to say what is jazz and what is not?" Then, a minute later he says:"I go on the internet and listen to smooth jazz and I wouldn't say that it meets the criteria of what is jazz." So a minute later he makes his own judgement as to what jazz is and is not. Even though he states that he has his preferences, well, EVERYONE ELSE, INCLUDING CRITICS, HAVE/HAD THEIR PREFERENCES TOO, AND GUESS WHAT, THEY DIDN'T THINK MAHAVISHNU WAS JAZZ EITHER! AND THEY WERE RIGHT, IT WASN'T!!!
