Great video of your journey. Do you have a list of your gear you can share? I noticed you always wore long pants vs shorts, was that because you wanted the sun protection? Any gear that you might trade out next time? Thx

Hi Rob...thanks for watching. A link to my gear list in LighterPack is below. I usually hike all covered up because the sun can be brutal and I have had a couple bouts with skin cancer. Also I like to get off trail and get chewed up bushwhacking in shorts. lighterpack.com/r/6eal9u

Did you summit Mt Whitney? Haven’t watched whole thing yet but I will - thanks.
@mejbp
@mejbp 3 жыл бұрын
Jim, I did Whitney in 2018, so opted to skip it. Actually in retrospect, it turned out to be a good decision. The weather on the day we would have done it was terrible and we would have probably had to abort. Rain, hail, wind, lightning and thunder are not good at 14k'

Do you have a written itinerary posted somewhere? If not, would you be willing to share? Great video!

Hi Joe, thanks for watching. Here is a link to the spreadsheet I adopted for the trip. It has a full itinerary with mileage and elevation gains and tabs for food, resupply, shopping and fuel use. Maybe too much planning for some? I also put in a link to the corresponding JMT map I made in CalTopo, which you can export as a GPX file or copy and modify. It is broken up into 10 mile sections going NOBO. Amazing video with nice music too. Congrats guys! Awesome scenery. Some questions: What brand did you each use for: backpacks, tent, sleeping bag, pad, chair, camera? What were your starting pack weights? How much did your food weigh at start or resupply? What type bear canister did John use? Any bear, mountain lion or other wildlife encounters? Which section did you find the hardest & why? This hike is on my list. Thanks so much for sharing.

A link to my gear list in LighterPack is at the end of this post. I think that list should answer most of your questions. Only saw one bear on the last day in Yosemite. He was not interested in us or our stuff. The hardest part for me was Muir Pass. For northbound there are a few false summits, so it was mentally tough. lighterpack.com/r/6eal9u

As I watch the video I notice you guys seem to have much of the same gear I use. X-mid, Granite gear pack, black diamond poles and it even looks like a Kuiu fleece top. It must be an old guy thing

May I inquire about how to go about arranging for a resupply at Le Conte please? How much would it cost me? And I am also wondering how long I have to wait for the resupply horse/mule to arrive? So that I can factor the wait time into my hike and choice of campsite. Thanks so much!!
@mejbp
@mejbp 3 жыл бұрын
We tagged onto an existing resupply arrangement that was "advertised" on a couple of the JMT Facebook pages. This is a fairly common practice and it worked right into our hike schedule. There ended up being about 8 people sharing the cost. The person who arranged it brokered the deal with the pack station and then sold shares based on the weight of the individual resupply. We paid $70 for a 15 pound resupply (1 bucket). The total cost for the rider and mule was $700 for a 150 pound payload. The pack operator gave us a window of time they would be arriving and actually got there earlier than we expected, about 2pm. The pack operator was "Rainbow Packers" out of South Lake/Parcher's Resort. We dropped our resupply off in person rather than mailing it, as we were in the area pre-hike to acclimate. Hope that helps.

@@mejbp thank you very much for your reply! The price is a little steep, but I think we will go for it!
@mejbp

When you factor in being able to stay on trail and not having to mail the resupply, it was comparable in cost to other resupply options like VVR, MTR, Red's...etc.

incredible video quality, what did you shoot with?

HDC... iPhone Xs for stills and video. HD 1080 30fps setting for video. It has the option to shoot in 4k, but I find it overkill for KZbin. I think 1080 looks great.
