I thought this was a very honest and heartfelt debate between the two sides. I've listened to general Hayden in other lectures, and Glenn greenwald and Edward Snowden 's take on things. I admit to eventually coming down more or less on Hayden's side, but I see the opposition's primary point: without these leaks, how could we be having this debate? Who would come forth and say that this is a matter for the people to decide? I really do see the need for secrecy, but to sustain something that is both secret and illegal is too great a task for our human nature to sustain without leaks for long. Hell, Monika Lewinsky got out...how is a dragnet surveillance going go stay behind closed doors? In summary, I understand and except the need for broad surveillance measures given today's technological and sociological realities; however, given that this is a democracy, the people should be informed at least on the basic tenets of what it is our government intends to implement. Just sayin.....

I liked the fact the nsa and former cia member came out to discuss the matter however. They already lied when they said they werent spying on us. Fact is we wont know the truth until the truth is investigated and sorry its their fault for lying and not being honest. This old man could be departmentalized and not know other parts of the government might come and access it. Who knows for sure? He may not even know why that metadata is being saved but they put him on a part of some front commitee, meanwhile the real reason is its a blackmailing machine slash just open book on your life used for many destructive purposes we dont know. Just because he comes out and is all friendly after all this stuff. Dont forgot how they wanted to arrest snowden why would they want to arrest him that bad if the program is all harmless. Its hard to believe that they are taking all data and being so secretive only to have captured one person for minor fraud over the past seven years. Lets not also forgot that this could open the door to once you have the laws for a dictatorship all in place then you flex your muscles not while your setting it up. Obama want use the data but two presidents later it will be a different world. Just look how the last 20 years have changed so much. We were so free 20 years ago it feels like a dream now. Dont forgot this adminstration killed an american citizen without trail without lawyers just murdered him and his 16 year old son weeks later. This adminstration has tortured people with 25% of them being innocent shoving a hose in peoples ass to feed them food qoute the biggest hose they could find. Water boarding and more and they lied about that. they lied about the war, lied about the banker bailout. Our country is in deep shit. Dont let smooth talking suits fool you just look at the track record for the answers and until people are arrested in the government for lying and treason, we have no reason to all of a sudden blindly trust them because they send out some old man, before it was a young sexy women. No you cant fool me with those obvious games. Remember the darkest programs are sectored off and departmentalized so not too many people know about it and they can arrest you and put you in jail forever in the name of national security (bradley manning given life in jail and brutally throw away the key. Dont forgot the gulof of tonkin where they sank the lusitania and killed our own people to stage a war. The governement at this point shouldnt even not only get the benefit of the doubt, but the opposite we should just consider it a lie until they can prove it otherwise because nearly everything they have ever said is a lie it should be exspected
