41:39 Here’s my take. (20+ years in the video game business, so I have an obvious bias) No nonviolent person is going to watch a movie or play GTA5 and be inspired to go kill fifty people with a gun, baseball bat or Cadillac ElDorado. People who commit violent acts may watch the Joker or be drawn to violent video games, but the trigger that sets them off seems to have closer correlations with education, poverty and abuse.

Problem of course is that no one outside of comics, and a huge amount of people in comics, don't know who Batwing or Mr. Terrific are. Fox will probably run a few people saying it is Liberals trying to re-brand Batman as black or something, ignoring that he is already a character. You would need to give him exposure first, put him in a Batman movie as a supporting character (a Batman Incorporated Movie might actually be cool, but probably chaotic). Or do a stand alone kind of thing where they jump right in and ignore any backstory complications, like Venom or Suicide Squad.

Not that I think this movie is going to actually cause any real problems (and like Marc said, it isn't even out yet - we haven't even seen it), but even the Heath Ledger Joker is a wet dream folk hero for dipshit incels and college edgelords. And that Joker wasn't even the literal protagonist of his own movie. Remember the dude who dressed like the Joker and shot up a screening of Dark Knight Rises? A quick Google will show you there's still (even as recently as July) real life crimes committed by Joker copycats. That said - I'm sure there's also murderous Mary Poppins copycats. I don't think the movie is actually going to do much more harm than most crime movies. But technically, yes, making an anarchic, nihilistic, murderous troll an appealing, relatable, cool character gives a lot of unmoored 4chan trolls a lot of encouragement to keep being their worst selves. That laugh is going to end up in a lot of youtube cringe compilations.

Not that I'm against shaking up the characters a bit but: Black Professor X? Black Magneto? Black Batman? If you're going to do it just expand the multi-verse where a universe exists where ALL the major heroes are a different race, gender or even sexual orientation. Just go as deep as you can. But don't try to make it cannon. Messing with these characters in a real way is just hard to swallow. CREATE NEW characters of color or gender who can become a part of the original timelines of DC and Marvel without the stigma of being a re-imagined version of an iconic character.

Black Batman. Everythings better Black; it"s like when these artists created these characters they didn't know what they were doing and the delicate sensibilities of 2019 folk are finally making their creations by changing a focal point of their identity to suit their ideological insecurity that everything isn't about them if they don't see "Representation" on the TV. I'm glad. Maybe some Blacks will want to act like Batman instead of the thug rapper drug dealer murderers some of them look up to now.

I’ve always thought Mark was right about black Bruce Wayne for the exact reason that he gives here, which he has always given, but while hearing him say it this time I thought of something. The character he’s describing here is not Bruce Wayne... it’s often Thomas Wayne and Bruce is just fulfilling his fathers wishes for the city his family built. If Bruce is an adult now then Thomas would have met his wife post the civil rights movement and a progressive man like he would have been may have married a black woman making Martha Wayne African American and Bruce could be mixed with a darker complexion. There you have your black Batman. Not that it needs to be done because it improves the narrative, it doesn’t change it much. It does however, offer a totally valid reason a director could use an African American actor as Bruce Wayne if he was the right actor for his or her vision of Batman.

I’ve always wanted Nathan Fillion as Hal Jordan. Dunno why Hal would be hanging out with the Suicide Squad, though... Also, D23 refer to the founding of the Walt Disney Company in 1923. Steamboat Willie didn’t come out until 1928.
@SantaPorter4205 жыл бұрын
Easy enough, they're already looking at doing a Question Movie, someone like Question would be investigating waller, (and in one alternate version working with waller) he could conceivably run into a government test pilot named Hal Jordan
@chrishansen81195 жыл бұрын
The Disney company waa founded in 1923 by Roy O Disney and Walt Disney. Contrary to popular belief, Steamboat Willie wasnt Walt's first animation with the Disney Company, it was actually a short animated film by the name if "Alice's Wonderland," which came out in 1923.
@wildsmiley5 жыл бұрын
Chris Hansen Correct. Everybody assumes Steamboat Willie was first because it was the first Mickey Mouse cartoon seen by the public at large (Plane Crazy was his actual first appearance, but that wasn’t distributed widely).

When they were trying to recast Batman 66, when Kev was trying to think of a Joker, as soon as he brought up the point of Caesar Romero having been a bigger actor 15 years prior, my mind instantly clicked to Michael Keaton. Michael Keaton would be my recast camp Joker. He's got the Beetlejuice energy and the irony of him being on the other side of the coin is just too delicious.
@JNelsonArt5 жыл бұрын
When Marc was talking about his concerns with the Joker movie, I thought he was referring to the shooting that happened in the theater during The Dark Knight Rises, given the fact that this is also a Batman movie and it most likely (as they mention) has a scene where the protagonist literally kills a theater/auditorium full of people

Look......😔 I don't want to be this guy cuz I believe everyone should have a spotlight but I hope theyre doing black batman cuz they have a fresh interesting story to tell and not just because representation because if u really wanted racial respect you would make a brand new character for the community not just swap out an existing property thats lazy.
@ianalopez5 жыл бұрын
Mark had a good reason a while back about why a black Bruce Wayne doesn't make sense and I agree. However a completely fresh take on Batman worh a different/new character would be cool. I dont see why Terry Mcguiness can't be a black Batman

I'm all in for a variety of superheroes being any color, gender or ethnicity. But why do we have to change the color or race or gender of existing superheros? Here's a thought how about new superheroes for modern times. I'm all for any gender or race superheroes but to change old school superheroes race,color,gender is just lazy. Why not a series or movie on Batwing ? Hes a great superhero for a movie or series.

Nitro- Verse imagine the back lash of changing black panther to a white character for representation in Africa since white people are a minority there? It’s so dumb. Just create new characters that have their own stories that are compelling and stop piggy backing off established characters and gender or race swapping. It’s lazy.

Marc's takes on things are always weird to me, joker isn't saying getting beat up makes you a killer, it's saying that a fragile mind and can be broken through abuse, to a point where all sense of humanity is lost, and God does he like to play the black card, I don't think he's a bad dude but like I say his takes are so strange to me
@generalilbis5 жыл бұрын
Fair enough, but Marc is a black man. He's never not going to view things through that lens unless some massive Infinity Gauntlet magic snap happens and all the racism in America disappears. He is lucky in that he's a successful black man but he knows he's an outlier when people who share skin colour get assaulted or killed just for being black. The writers and director of "Joker" might not have intended to convey the message or theme Marc picked out, but I'm not going to discount Marc's take on the film because the intent was something else.

Matrix 4: resurrect Joe Pantoliano/cypher.
