In this video we find ourselves in Joplin, MO revisiting the locations that were most impacted by the EF5 tornado and comparing what they look like today verse what they looked like back in 2011 when the tornado hit. We also check out the Joplin Tornado Memorial - built on ground zero of the EF5 tornado and pay our respects to the victims who tragically lost their lives that day. We will never forget Joplin.
The 2011 Joplin tornado was a large and devastating multiple-vortex tornado that struck Joplin, Missouri, United States, on the evening of Sunday, May 22, 2011. Part of a larger late-May tornado outbreak, the EF5 tornado began just west of Joplin and intensified very quickly, reaching a maximum width of nearly one mile (1.6 km) during its path through the southern part of the city. The tornado tracked eastward through Joplin, and then continued across Interstate 44 into rural portions of Jasper and Newton counties, weakening before it dissipated.

EXCELLENT coverage of that devastating tornado... I recall it now that you have brought it up. Unfortunately, there have been so many tragedies since then, it's important to be revisited. **Let alone the loss of life, the massive destruction is truly evidenced by your THEN and NOW photos. Thank you for the timely, video clips, of the two, time periods. I marvel at the people who rebuilt. The "cleared" areas, and that thoughtful, respectful, park are constant reminders of what the residents of Joplin have been through. Thank you, for the excellent coverage of this tragedy, and for "showing" us the resilience of the people of Joplin. 🙏🏻🏡🌪 💔❤️‍🩹

When I sat down on my lunch break to watch this video, I didn’t expect to break down in tears. You did an excellent job on this! I visited Joplin a few years after the tornado. Rebuilding was still going on. The progress they made is impressive. Great job!

You did an incredible job on this video. So much love and compassion was poured into making this and it definitely shows. It's crazy to think this is what tornados do cause when the tornado sirens go off here everyone goes outside to hang out and see if they can see anything

My home was 2503 Picher, 1 block from St John's. The number of people thatvwere killed didn't include the homeless or illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe, India or Hispanic. There were people living in the woods west of St John's.

Makes me wonder, if God sent the tornado and the angels, or if the angels rebelled against gods wrath.

I did disaster relief there. I have some stories from the people there that were told to me and some stories on my own experiences. I'll never forget walking around ground zero, walking through the rubble and destruction and helping everybody I could. If you would like to hear these stories please feel free to reach out to me and I will gladly tell you. It's something I will never forget and probably one of the most amazing experiences of my life. @TravelswithNick
