Well, if we're going to be asking questions, then why am I in this house with killer animatronics at all? Given all the things that happen in horror games it generally doesn't pay off to ask such questions. Though to actually answer the question, I'd say that collecting the items is nothing more than a game mechanic to give the player some kind of goal. As for whether the objects themselves have some kind of meaning? I'm not sure. P.S. I would appreciate it if you'd please avoid using harsh language in the comments. Thanks. :)

It's been quite a while since I last played, but I believe he has to slow down going around corners, so making as many turns as possible helps, if I'm correct. That being said, it would be best to avoid being chased in the first place, if possible.
