This video gave me a more powerful perspective to follow in regards to the hobby my girlfriend introduced me to before she passed away. Thanks for providing me another video to empower the reason to build on and ease away the pains of life with these joys of model kit building. Build on, man.

I do not watch Gundam and only clicked this video because I was curious to know what "Gunpla" is, but I enjoyed your video. The feelings you described at the end are the exact same I get when I go out riding on my ATV which is my favorite thing to do. I'd have no interest personally in making a model but you point out the importance of hobbies and doing things on your own. The great thing is you find something you enjoy doing , put the phone down tune out the world for a bit and tune into yourself. Cool video!

I still remember watching this video on my christmas break 2 years ago, after building my first gunpla. After watching MS Gundam Trilogy to CCA, along with the best OVA's, and lovingly painting a handful of gunpla, I really wanted to rewatch this video after that! I gave up on finding it, till youtube suggested it again! Thanks for making this cool vid

I paint tabletop miniatures, not gunpla. Yet, I feel the same. I have this endless stack of Ork miniatures and vehicles. My painting is nowhere near pro. Yet, painting them, trying my best to make them look brutal, energetic, monstrous...I find piece in every axe and human skull I paint. Painting green skin to me is like cleansing my soul of impurities. There is only me and 3 shades of green.

I joined the Gunpla hobby in October 2014. My collection is roughly 150-180 kits so far, with the goal of owning all 1/144 High Grade kits from 1999 onwards. (HGUC, SEED, 00, G-Reco, Origin, IBO, BD etc) I'm also collecting all Real Grade and have all retail kits from the RX-78-2 to the Astray Gold Frame Amatsu Mina.

I just started building gunpla a year ago. As an artist, I like it better than yoga, because after so many sessions I get an awesome, customized giant robot. However, hand painting details does get stressful as fuck...but once I'm done the end result can be more than satisfying.

Great video man. I've been through a lot of addictive stuff (mostly destructive) and I think building gunpla is my therapy. It taught me to have patience, dedication and focus. And after finishing up my kit, the robot itself signifies accomplishment, courage, resilience and fortitude.

My love for anime started with sailor moon. Though i had no idea what anime was. All i knew is i wanted more of it. Then i discovered Gundam Wing on YTV. Then i discovered the early no grade Gundam Wing no grade model kits. It was straight down hill from there.

damn dude. This was really interesting! one thing that you mentioned that I think is really overlooked by the overall gaming community is that the flow states that we get from games are very meditative. as a person living with depression who is still really new to the world of meditation, I've seen it really help, but it's connection to flow states in games isn't really something we see mentioned in larger discussion of games. what is really interesting to me is that despite flow/meditative state being the end goal of a game designers work, the people that are exposed to it can still demonstrate the larger mental inflexibility that "gamer" culture demonstrates.

Personally, having just started to return to modelling, I'm specifically looking for robot/mecha models that *don't* look like your standard gundam mech. I love Maschinen Krieger's kits, for example, but there aren't enough mech kits out there that are truly different. You do you, you'll find an audience.

Thanks for this video! It never crossed my mind to think that building Gunplas could be a form of meditation. I can relate to your point of view, one of my stress relievers is assembling "Gundams", and now I take it as a form of meditation too.

I agree whole heartedly with your video my friend. I typically can become lost as I'm building a model. I call it hyper focusing. The greatest examples are when I built the hmm liger zero panzer nearly 2 yrs ago. I spent 5 hours just working on the main body. Not even thinking of the passage of time. I actually had to force myself to take a break. Then I get into planning for custom builds. I typically spend a month planning out each build, which is half the fun sometimes. In the end, its the constant challenge and the trance like state I fall into that keeps bringing me back to model building.

I started with 00 and then I couldn't stop. I watched all I could find and I love it. I have 3 gunplas, a high grade, a real grade and a master grade, no perfect grade yet. Your Zaku looks very nice. That paint work makes it look raw and heavy, as it should be. Cheers!

As someone who built models of plastic planes and cars, I can relate directly to what was said in the video. I remember feeling extremely relaxed when I assembled my first model of an Airbus A380 with a kit made by Revell. This model is now dusty and broken, as a perfect analogy to the memories I have of that time and to the things that life does to us.

2:57 A little correction (?) here. According to nico nico hyakka (which is an internet encyclopedia of sort), GUNPLA/ガンプラ is a shortened for ガンダム + プラモデル (or ガンダムのプラモデル, according to Japanese Wikipedia page of ガンプラ) which can be translated as 'Gundam Miniature Model (construction) Kit' (people often call (usually miniature) model construction kits プラモデル: pla(stic) model in Japan). I didn't find these descriptions on Bandai's page, although nico nico hyakka said it was the Bandai's official description of ガンプラ. Sorry if -millions of people- someone made a similar comment before.

One thing I don't get, you talk about meditation and flow state and how they apply to gunpla. I get that, the quite focus it gives me has helped me with my mental health but in the same video you talk about this you state a ridiculously short amount of time to build a perfect grade. I know the end result is personal but I get the distinct impression you rushed it to make this video. The more time you take the more rewarding I find the hobby both in terms of personal fulfilment and end result. If I am tottal off the mark here I appologise
