Thank you, Andy, for all of your hard work! We began our day with the storm at 10:30 a.m. here in southeast Iowa. Lots of tree damage and power out for a few hours but compared to the historic Cedar Rapids derecho, we got off easy today...I have great appreciation for all of you wonderful people who communicate on the front lines of serious weather events to educate, inform and save lives when you can...you are all my heroes and great public servants! :)

I wish I could've watched. I lost power in Springfield, IL, before you started the stream. we had 112 mph winds here and lots of damage throughout the city. I didn't have power for almost 30 hours, and there's still thousands without power today. thank you for covering this! derecho and an ef2 tornado in the area confirmed

In Bloomington and just got our power back! The mobile home got hit with about 80-90mph straight line wind. It rocked the home 3 times and chugged on. Your coverage was helpful. Thank you again for your public service!

Yeah, I was looking for either Andy or Ryan this morning. The derecho came through western IL before noon. My county, Greene, got hit at 11:45. Power was out for 6 hours. Major tree damage in my yard, 70 mph wind. But it was worse north of me around Quincy and north of there.

See we got hit at about 10:45, power will be out around here for well over a week in rural areas.

I live in Champaign County. I work overnights and sleep in the afternoon, but I stayed up later than normal because my sister, who works in Bloomington, had shot me a text warning me about the weather. The thing about this derecho was how quickly it went from 0 - nasty. It went from blue skies, to cloudy, to unable to see my neighbor's house in only a few minutes. Lights flickered a few times, but the power stayed on as the storm passed. I say it's done and go to bed. Then the power line to an empty house behind me snaps, which blows a circuit breaker at a substation. My neighborhood had no power for four days, because Ameren was scrambling to replaced and repair all the damage in the area. Trees down, my neighbor's garage lost its roof, and one of my coworkers couldn't make it into work because all the roads he would take were blocked by downed trees.

thanks for the account of the event! goes to show that high end wind events are even more impactful with how widespread the results are felt. i like covering the damaging wind events, but it is tough to fill the space as a streamer!

To say the least, this was a crazy day. I live in Taylorville, IL and we got hit head on by winds of around 100 mph and a handful of tornadoes as well. Just a bad day all around for my area.

I really appreciate how Andy hops around to many different areas being affected and not only focusing on the biggest damage producer. He's what the weather channel used to be in it's "glory days". Breaking down the nation's weather threats evaluating them and giving people information they need to prepare or letting them know that the weather is not going to blow their homes away. Now the weather channel is full of "clickbait" and it has turned into how can we get the most $ out of what we show.

I wish you had started earlier before the derecho entered Illinois. By the time you came on it had already hit my county and my power went out. That was at 11:45 before your stream began. So no internet after that for 6 hours. I had 70 mph wind and large tree branches down in my backyard. Isn't it unusual for a line of storms to become a derecho before noon? It was bad. Greene County.
@metandyhill Жыл бұрын
yup, I did what I could. I had just woken up and gone downstairs, set up the stream in 5 minutes and received all pieces from the team (thumbnail, stream links for the cams/chasers/etc.) I'm sorry I couldn't reach you too :(

Andy woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. I’ve supported him from the beginning, often watching his stream instead of Ryan’s and he’s always been cool to chat with. I’ve never seen him react like he did when I asked a few times about the storm in Alabama. I wasn’t the only one and I was making a joke about that James Spann BBQ Tour which I have mentioned to him before and he chuckled about it. Then he put me on blast mode. If he thinks that was justified, then I need to find greener pastures or a more “fruited plain”.
