I have to disagree with your take on Shanti and her relationship with Mowgli. Mowgli and Shanti do in fact have a very interesting dynamic. They oppose each other but they also complete each other and learn from each other. Shanti is highly civilized, proper and was raised to be a perfect obedient daughter. While Mowgli was raised by animals and had virtually no perception of civilization or his own humanity until he met Shanti. Their relationship works so well because they bring out the best in each other. By that, I mean Mowgli inspires Shanti to be more independent and bold while Shanti inspires Mowgli to value hard work. Also, Shanti's arc is pretty well done. I admit that it would have been better if they had kept her solo song "Braver" in the movie, but what we got is still satisfying. Essentially, Shanti's arc is about her finding her courage by facing her fear. She faces her worst nightmare when she's helpless before Kaa, and that encounter worked on her like an exposure therapy. Which made her less uneasy in the jungle until she conquered her fear for good and found her courage by risking her life to help Mowgli. Similar to Baloo's display of courage when he risked his life for Mowgli during the encounter with Shere Khan. Also, it's hard to deny just how adorable Mowgli and Shanti's romantic feelings for each other are. Like how they flirt with each other in the beginning, how it was addressed that Mowgli has a soft spot for Shanti's beautiful eyes, how Shanti admits that she likes Mowgli as more than a friend and how Mowgli simply can't stop thinking about Shanti after he leaves the village. In the earlier draft of the script, it was even revealed that Mowgli and Shanti were arranged to marry when they grow up. I also disagree that this movie is a 100% rehash. It may rehash a lot of elements, but the original was about Mowgli's self-discovery and the importance responsibility and change. The sequel is more of a bromance vs romance type of story. And it's funny you should mention pacing being supposedly better in the sequel, because the sequel was actually pretty rushed. And that is the main reason why it fails to live up to most of its potential.

One of the most disappointingly boring sequels that should have gone straight to video instead of theatrically released like All Dogs Go to Heaven 2 and Hoodwinked Too

@@daysintonightmaresofficial I think Disney should make a second Jungle Book tv show that includes an episode where Shanti babysits Ranjan
