K-1 was great. Andy Hug was a national hero here in Switzerland. When they started broadcasting it on Eurosport, it became kind of main stream. The tournament format was great, even if you didn't know the fighters, everybody usually had a favorite by the final fight and often there was even a bad guy to dislike. And after watching the different tournaments through out the year, by the time the Final Grand Prix in Japan came around, you were familiar and invested in all the fighters, good or bad. The way the year/season was set-up with the regional tournaments the fighters had to win to make it to the final, was very exciting and entertaining trough out the whole year. You always wanted to know how your favorite fighters are doing and what cray new guys they would introduce. I started watching in 2001 when Hunt and Hoost won, and the Remy Bonjaski started beating everybody, Aerts, Sefo, LeBanner, those guys were big back then.

@benitofranklyn42372 ай бұрын
@@PP-hu9wv Wow, that's great. Those are some absolute legends, especially Hoost and Aerts. Are you from the Netherlands? Here in Switzerland we had Andy Hug, who made it to the World GP Final three years in a row, he won once and lost the other two to Hoost and Aerts. Hug started a big kickboxing boom in Switzerland, sadly he died in 2000. Hoost, Aerts and Hug were there right from the start, I followed their whole career. I got lucky Azem Maksutaj was the local coach here in Winterthur, he was supposed to become Andy Hug's successor in K-1 but only had a couple fights and never made it to the same heights. Aerts and Bonjaski were always some of my favorite fighters to watch. Schilt was a great character as well, he was so huge, you always wanted to see if your favorite fighter is able to beat this giant.

I have been watching fighting of all types for about 35 years. Listening to and watching analysis as well. I have to say that you are one of the best I have ever come across. You break it down so precise yet you make it simple enough that a person that's not as familiar with the sport would be inspired to watch more fights. You explain real quick and keep moving. There's some guys that have to talk 5 minutes for every punch. Amazing work

These 90s GPs for K1 were absolutely epic and fantastic
@Invictus44i4 ай бұрын
The 90s were so special to combat sports enthusiasts. K1, Pride FC, and legendary boxing matches ensured that you could witness different legendary fights several times every month. Due to K1 and Pride FC being Japanese promotions, there was very little to no trash talking because respect and humility are deeply embedded in Japanese culture. Fighters and fans always met each other with respect.

Man, introducing Rick Roofus as the guy who lost to a smaller Muay Thai fighter due to leg kicks, and then following up with a fight where he lost to a much, much bigger guy due to leg kicks (both in fights he was arguably winning until those kicks extracted their due) makes me want to do a ton of squats and shin conditioning.

16:05 - I had no idea it was considered bad sportsmanship to use your hand to push down on your opponents hand to set up a shot. It seems like such an obvious and effective tactic and honestly second nature to mess with your opponents ability to block a shot
@TheModernMartialArtist5 ай бұрын
If you're talking about the moment I'm thinking of it was bad sportsmanship because there is a traditional glove touch at the start of the fight. Usually if the glove is offered and the other taps it then both back up and the real fight starts. It's a show of respect. Like a fist bump. This guy attacked off of that, it's like attacking at a peace conference I guess.
