@@nickdevault5717 he addressed this in his video, but it was primarily because gas was venting into the magazine and he thought that was a terrible idea. Hop tested this with standard BCG, KAKs downward venting and used a suppressor and brand new magazines and when he laid the brass side by side determined it wasn't an issue as well.

@IWSFODD2 ай бұрын
As i think through this , i am wondering about 2 things: - the hot gas vented down probably not good for any polymer-feeding-lip like the PMAG. While the polymer that get used for PMAG is probably very high-temp resistant, but i would have to imagine that it can get hot quick with constant gas vented directly down like that and I don't know if those polymer mag were ever designed to accommodate for stuffs like this (but then they are only about 30 rounds or so , probably not enough time to get those to extreme temp) - I would be very curious to see the strip-down magazine (with followers, springs and baseplate all out) to see how dirtier it could get since the mag is still not a "sealed" system. Smaller particles can still get through the gaps between round casing and the followers, especially at higher pressure). The use of this vent-down might require more magazine maintenance than normal. EDIT: a 3rd thing: - Since the fouling now is on the casing, and it will then be inserted back to the barrel. I wonder what the long-term consequences of this as it might make your feed-ramp and barrel... "dirtier".
@SmallArmsSolutions2 ай бұрын
The gas has absolutely no negative effects on the polymer magazines. I fired full auto on several of these mags. The magazine NEVER gets hot enough in 30 to have any effect whatsoever. In fact, I dont even think a 65-rd drop would even heat up the feedlips at all. There is no long term effect on the cartridges, magazines or the rifle. You just don’t build up that much heat. I have disassembled magazines, I see no difference. In fact a magazine that is used with a suppressor has far more fouling than the downward vent carrier. I was very skeptical on this product TBH. Then I used it and examined it. My suspicions i originally had were found to be baseless.
@IWSFODD2 ай бұрын
@@SmallArmsSolutions I wonder if the fact that there is a constant high-pressure downward on each round also ... "blow away" any of the previous fouling. I'm still somewhat skeptical of the long-term fouling accumulation in the mag beneath the followers though. Hopefully you would be able to have a follow-up on this in several months!

@@SmallArmsSolutions I'm considering that for my next upper build. The Riflespeed won't work for my setup, using a BCM MCMR 10 on an 11.3" BA Hanson. For me to run a Riflespeed on this setup, I'd need to replace the handguard since they don't offer one that fits my combo, if I'm going that far I'll just build a new upper. I considered a Superlative AGB, Wojtek AGB, or a simple BRT EZ-TUNE...but I'm not looking forward to beating that BCM handguard off, even with heat we struggled to get it on. I just had this same gun out to the range again with a different charging handle. It's not blowing nearly as much gas in my face now. I double checked the ejection pattern and it's closer to 3-3:30 for a majority of the casings, there's an occasional handful that get kicked more towards 2. Not sure what changed, since it's the same ammo as last time (same exact can of Lake City M855). I'm wondering if the last time I checked I just happened to be seeing only those occasional 2 o'clock ejected casings. The only part changed was a charging handle, which obviously wouldn't change ejection. As far as the H3 goes, that's what was recommended by Geissele for the Super 42 running suppressed on an 11" barrel, hence why I selected that option.
@terryfaugno92422 ай бұрын
The only issue I can think of with the downward venting BCG might be you need to pay extra attention to the magazine well when you're cleaning the rifle to clear away carbon residue, though it sounds like it might take multiple range trips or weeks/months of regular use in an LE application before any negative effects start to manifest.

Having watched InrangeTV's various mud tests and Grarand Thumb's mud tests, I've become a fan of those side venting gas ports on bcg's as that gas pressure will blow any sort of fouling away from the ejection port; even heavily caked on mud. Firearms that don't have this feature (like the venerable AK-47 and its legendary reliability), tend to jam as a consequence. So moving those vents down toward the magazine well seems like it would reduce the reliability of the AR platform some. While downward venting bcg's certainly have some benefits, it also has some drawbacks as well. 6 to one, half a dozen to the other? Your milage may vary, but it's something to consider.

If you run suppressed a lot, and ESPECIALLY if you add in something that vents even more gas into the mag, make it a habit to periodically run a CLP soaked rag up and down inside the magazine to clean out some of the fouling. I've encountered regular malfunctions from fouled up mags - generally the bullet wouldn't come out of the feed lip before bolt came forward, and the bullet ended up jammed into the casing and not feeding. This was immediately solved with a quick cleaning. With that said, I'm looking forward to trying this carrier.

Some charging handles (Pri Gasbuster and Silencerco will assist in preventing as much gas from escaping the rear. Pure mechanics. Even external piton guns will get gas as well, just not as much.
