The Kanarra Falls Hike near Zion, Utah | 4K (Insta360 One R+)

August 2020 -- my short hike up to Kanarra Falls near Kanarraville, Utah just north of Zion National Park. The hike is mostly up Kanarra Creek and includes going through two photogenic slot canyons and climbing up over ladders and boulders along the way. Video includes footage from the Insta360 One R, OSMO Pocket, and Pixel 2XL cameras.
Note: this hike now requires a permit and typically a reservation several weeks in advance. The ladders necessary to climb the waterfalls are recommended for agile hikers only and the entire hike is very prone to flash floods, so have a good forecast before setting out.

@@carlosvazquez8962 - As of 10 Sept 2021 there was only someone's makeshift solution - a couple of logs leaning against the rocks, with some rope, straps and chain attached to the wall. Some people were nimble or crazy enough to use it. I didn't.

@@carlosvazquez8962 It seems to still be in flux. They replaced it, but then it got washed away again. Then they added a temporary solution, but not sure if still there. I'd call or check the official website for the latest info before heading that way. 👍

Appreciate the vid, just got home and hiked the falls Friday. My wife and I were the only ones there, in and out. It was great but also a bit scary if someone were too get injured. This is quite remote for the average hiker. Your video helped me know what to expect. Merry Christmas!

That must have been great. It's been on my radar for a long time, but just never made it happen. I think the new quota system is probably for the best as a few years ago it seemed to be really out of control based on photos. Now I think if one goes early morning, or late in the day like I did, the crowd isn't too bad.

I spent about 3.5 hours on the hike. It could be done faster -- or slower if you want to lunch/lounge/etc. It's about 4 miles roundtrip.

I did it late in the day and took my time and spent probably 3-4hrs on the hike. It could be done faster, or even slower if you want to just chill in the stream/falls for a while. Have a good one if you go. 👍

WOW! So beautiful! I've never heard of these falls before :D. Curious - do you get the permits to hike this @ the Zion ranger station in the park after reserving them online, or how does that work? That first ladder made me nervous; kudos to you for daring to film while climbing it. Great to see a new video from you, Jamal. This isn't a permitted hike through the park. I believe it's private property so you pay an entrance fee. I'd check their website to see what the current situation is. When I went, we showed up at the entrance around 11am and were able to get in no problems at the kiosk.

Yeah -- this is just north of Zion and the town of Kanarraville owns some of the property and they regulate access. Permits are in high demand, but nothing like Coyote Buttes. I got mine about 2 weeks in advance, but for a weekend one would probably need to plan farther ahead. The official site: www.kanarrafalls.com.

Thanks! Nope -- one full battery (standard) lasted the whole hike. I don't remember it getting too depleted, but some of the footage is from my Pixel 2 -- so that helped spread out the load. 👍

Nice video. How are you liking the Insta360 One R? Is it the 1" edition?

Thanks! So far so good. I think it has great potential for my type of hikes, but... it's temperamental at times. I have the twin edition -- so the 360 and 4K mods. Since it was so late in the day the canyon was fairly dark (more so than it appears.) The camera captured it fairly well, but... a bunch of grain and some blur/stabilizing issues were the downside.

Hi，a silly question: do I have to get the shoes wet in order to hike there? never done that before. How soon the shoes will get dry and isn't super uncomfortable to walk in soaked shoes? Thank you. It's a great video.

yeah -- one has to walk in the creek, so your shoes/feet will get soaked. Some wear TEVAs or similar, but I prefer water shoes, sneakers, or boots and just get them wet (it's not that bad.) Neoprene socks can help. Thanks for watching!

It's only about 1.5 miles, but it seems much farther than that due to all the creek crossings The second waterfall is less than a half mile more. Thanks for watching! 🌞👍

How it where do you get the permit? How much time is needed? Trip in mid May. How long did it take you to the lower falls? Is the water cold? What time of year did you go?

Did you even watch the video?! 😉 IE... most of these answers are in the video, but... the permit is available online via the city's website. It's a half-day hike for most. Maybe an hour to the lower falls. The water was not cold for me, because it was mid-August (but in May the water is likely to be a little chilly.) Have fun! 👍

This was in late August. I love the spring and April could be nice, but the water is likely to be quite chilly then so you may want neoprene socks. Have fun. 👍🌞

Usually for extended hikes through the water I just wear my normal boots often with neoprene socks. It's tough on the boots, but I have better traction than with water shoes/chacos/etc. Thanks for watching.
