DVD summary below:
The Kantner collection is a culmination of 8mm railroad films photographed by the brothers Arch and Bruce Kantner of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania.
The collection highlights the rarely photographed coal region railroad operations with visits to capture the main line action in Pennsylvania and the Virginias from the early 1950s into the beginning of Conrail.
The first volume covers the Reading coal and passenger service and the PRR ore trains and locals in Schuylkill County, operations on the Lehigh Valley and CNJ in the Lehigh River gorge, the PRR steam to diesel transition in western PA, the Lackawanna detour trains and more in the early to mid 1950s

I'm happy some folks took the time to film trains back in the day, so future generations could see what it looked like. I imagine back then, it was commonplace, but so much has changed.

Talesin- God of the Internet.....I'm sure there were early episodes of crushed cabooses when they started to add pushers to heavy freights. I hope no one was in the old wooden frame cabin cars when they tested them. I'm amazed at the coordination between engineers at the front and rear of a long train going over mountains signaling each other about applying power at one end and and brakes at the other by using their whistles. Awesome trainsmanahip.

That Penn RR centercab loco looks so Mint. Looks like a Baldwin DT2000 but the windows on the loco look different and no flares on the cab entrances.

I'm assuming the lackawanna detours were the result of the flood of 1955. I love that T1 pushing but eh camera didn't stay on long enough to get the number.
