@johncrafton83196 жыл бұрын
The actual unit in Ready Player One is also getting ready to come out. The big difference appears to be the fact that this one uses a harness to stabilize you while the other one (from the movie) doesn't stabilize you at all, making you rely on a handrail ring. Because of that, since the floor on the other one is always moving, kneeling and crouching would be very, very difficult without falling over.
@blackpenter44876 жыл бұрын
Justin loveless i think we will have it in 5 years, Since everyone got inspired like me from ready player one there will be alot of people that want to make stuff like that like a whole new vrchat greater and bigger
@makbar596 жыл бұрын
John, I think you are talking about infinadeck. So from what I have seen, their older model had a harness that supported the user from a over hanging arm. The handrail ring is part of their newer model where they are trying to bring down the cost of the product. I think when it is fully launched, the harness and overhead structure will be an addon. The handrail is sufficient for walking simulators, normally for B2B uses. From the reviews I've seen, it seems like you forget about the moving base when you are actually in VR. It is responsive enough to keep up with feet movements. Only issue is the huge costs.
@johncrafton83196 жыл бұрын
makbar59 - From what I've seen, without the harness you won't be able to properly crouch or kneel down, which is a big issue. Also, it appears (once again, from the videos) that the speed setting takes a bit to get dialed in to your individual stride. But yeah, the price seems to be the biggest hurdle.
@makbar596 жыл бұрын
John Crafton so I completely agree, in a fast paced game environment, kneeling and crouch walking on a moving surface will be a nightmare without a harness. That's why I think that the handrail version is better suited for business: like showing a customers around their newly designed building or engineers walking around a new car design. On slow walking speed that design is much more natural and easier for those purposes.

@@KATVR any chance this will drop in price soon? $4000 is a bit too much
@KATVR5 жыл бұрын
@@jairusstrunk94 As far as we would love to provide our devices at low prices unfortunately it is not possible. Please keep in mind that the final price of the product includes not only the manufacturing (which in case of quite a big piece of technology comes at a cost - especially in case of start ups, and smaller entities which can't fully benefit from the mass production reductions of costs possible in case of huge corporations such as Microsoft or Apple). We also need to remember about months, and in some cases years of costly products development with no money coming in from clients, and all the resources coming from investors. Then there are all other costs such as worldwide intellectual property rights registration, daily costs of company's operations, and many many others. Reduction of the current price would need to be followed by a huge reduction in product's quality what stands in a strong opposition to our ethics, and mission. At the same time we understand that they still stay far beyond the affordable price range for many of our fans and supporters. As long as KAT stays on the market we will keep developing, and introducing new products at possibly lowest prices. If you would like to get one of our devices but the price is too high for you, feel welcome to follow our social medias, and stay tuned about our future releases! VR is still relatively young technology, and KAT as a leading supplier of OTDs will spare no efforts to bring new innovations (and possibly also costs reductions) as soon as it''s possible!

Fortunately enough, there's an official Beta for the actual "Ready Player One: OASIS" game exclusively for VIVEPORT. You may have to wait 10 years for perfection, but it's definitely a lot closer than anticipated!

Now all you need is some sort of cable system to measure if the player is siting down on their knees or have a bench on the side for players to lay down or something similar to that, this would be for those who role-play with VR which seems to be coming around more often.

would be perfect for my at home rehab, I was in a severe car accident resulting in full muscularskeletal damage, internal concussion, and spinal damage hopefully just a temporary strain from head to tailbone. My stepfather doesn't want me to get anything but given my prior work injury on my knees if I don't maintain exercise such as my common 8 miles a day then I cant maintain a painfree lifestyle. for me its not as simple as the loco I cant sleep unless I fall unconscious so having a supported chair and chest harness mod will help maintain safety if I pass out. using a cushon on my collar would maintain my neck posture. I cant afford to go outside for many reasons 1= the uncontrollable risk at injury from falling. 2= people get abducted all the time im not far from Cleveland ohio 3= im high risk to the C19 my job wouldn't let me work before the crash infact they don't even know about it, they took me off the schedule and told me im expected to call back 72 hours after symptoms and they may even consider it voluntary...… fortunately they did this to me when I already had a legal document requiring me to quarantine so I was one of the lucky ones and qualify for benefits + the 145 due to the partial unemployement I filed in the beginning since they cut everyone from there original time down to 9-11 hours weekly. problem is medical costs are a bitch

@KAT VR, so far out of bi-directional treadmills and Locomotion created designs, you guys by far take the cake. Two issues I have to point out. Note: I am giving you advice on where to take your designs a step further. Acknowledgment is all I ask in return. 1. Your platform is a bowl like plate which isn't as immersive as issue number two will present. 2. When I'm walking, if I step on something or step up on a curb, I expect slight resistance when stepping up the curb. I also expect to feel as though my elevation had changed through that resistance and the feeling to my feet allowing me to acknowledge and openly believe I just stepped up onto the curb. This also implies if I happen to step on a can. So with this in mind: my thoughts on this matter would be to create some sort of boots or shoes that implement this feature (and if that is the case, don't forget to make it heated and cooled so you can feel things as well as haptic response to make it even more immersive) or you can use the treadmill-like design to adjust in accordance to your surroundings. I don't expect to run up a hill with only a flat surface. This brings me back to the reality that I'm not truly immersed. That's all. Hope you read this (and hopefully respond so I know I've been heard) and take this suggestion to heart and hope to see something in the making from you guys. :D So excited for the next 5-10 years of life. Oh, how it pays to be young. ^-^

@KATVR6 жыл бұрын
We understand your concerns about it. Actually, the final design and solving the problems like foot motion etc. are always the biggest challenges with VR treadmills. KAT Walk mini uses hi-tech materials that allow to imitate the natural friction force, thus imitate natural feeling of walking, rather than sliding

So far this is the best treadmill for vr ive seen. The infinideck looks promising but its big and the omni is annoyingly dumb. It was a good design choice to make the "holder" able to rotate vs the original design
@TheLongboardingkid6 жыл бұрын
Why do you believe is bad about the Omni?
@kwratster6 жыл бұрын
because the omni has you stuck inside a circle which limits arm movement and then the base is made with grooves that you have to have specific shoes that they only sell for last time i looked like $100

So they've gone for direct foot tracking rather than rollers or pressure sensitive pads like all their rivals? Honestly, that makes so much more sense that I feel the competition must be face palming that they didn't think of it themselves. Also note how the space in front of you is open with this one, as opposed to being stuck pushing against a baby stroller style ring that would block arm freedom. These are always going to be niche products even if VR becomes 100% mainstream, simply due to the size of the units, but at a glance this does look like the best take on the concept thus far.
