The name Suzuki Alto Works always brings me back to early Gran Turismo games. They are always a contender for those Kei Cup races

I used to like the last of the old versions which had 4wd and two door. Great little rocket.

I really love the late 80's and early 90's models. Makes the current model look like a bus.

I had a friend who got themselves an earlier version of one of these - he fitted 15x8 wheels and Avon slick tyres hanging out of the guards and the fucking thing would whip around corners so hard it would put a crick in your neck. It was like driving a go-kart that was actively trying to damage your spine...

To qualify as a Kei they MUST adhere to strict limits to size, displacement and power restrictions. 60hp is the limit, no matter how sporty they cant exceed that. They were designed to accelerate the adoption of cars after WW2 when japan didnt really have cars, so they made cars smaller and thus cheaper. Today, they are MUCH cheaper to own than a regular car. Less tax being the main reason.

I remember seeing a Suzuki mighty boy turn in front of a Ford LTD doing 80kmh. Belted it for 6 completely out of the intersection. Looked comical, but the driver didn’t make it….so no kei for me.

One other downside: importers are sticking hefty markups on them, aka JDM tax. Cars that should top out at $20-$25k and being sold for $35k plus. You're better off importing one yourself or through a broker and saving some cash that way.

Should’ve boosted and upgraded the 800cc engine or put the Celerio 1000cc on that small body to make it fun.

Love an Nbox, I just bought a Spacia recently. But in terms of performance/mods this would blow them away I reckon.

Honda actually do make something sporty and practical in the N-One RS. Essentially the S660 drive-line (so 6spd manual), but front axle instead of the rear with the more practical body that comes with that.
