Complete artist. Kendrick is multidimensional, understanding music at the level of a musician. His works are different as his understanding of sound is different than the others. His catalog speaks to an understanding of all music genres; he reminds me of growing up in Carson, Ca. Our home was always filled with music. R&B, Soul, Funk, Disco, Jazz, Rock N Roll etc. Listening to Kendrick is like reliving my youth in the South Bay. Our community always had an appreciation for good music.

I think what sets him apart is his unwillingness to get complacent. Almost any other rapper who dropped something on the level of GKMC would begin resting on their laurels and stop being hungry. Its obvious that Kendrick is constantly pushing himself to new heights and constantly reinvents himself while remaining true to himself.

I am not your savior - Kendrick All this glazing will lead to disappointment
@neotheboxer12 күн бұрын
Folks need to grow up. Glazing, "D riding" are all terms that say, "I have nothing of meaning to contribute so I will throw words that TODAY is in an insult" (unless it is on a donut). It is silly. If you have something to say, SAY IT with words that explain your thoughts. Kendrick is not a person's savior, but his push may have helped musicians get back on the ball, which is good. Appreciating his impact, as well as the meaningful impact of others is perfectly fine. Whether you like that person or not. I understand the impact of Trump and detest the person because of WHAT that impact has done to the US. I also understand the impact of Mother Teresa and respect greatly the sacrifices she made.
@KeefSweating12 күн бұрын
@ idol worship will give you nothing but disappointment. I said what I needed to say and it was a quote from whom the video is about. All that yapping doesn’t mean shit at the end of the day. Everyone has a right to their opinion and if it bothers you then learn some self management so you can learn not to be reactive to another persons views. Otherwise my comment shouldn’t bother you.
@patricialong26212 күн бұрын
@@KeefSweatingGenuine question, is it automatically idol worship if you recognize someone’s admirable qualities. For example, when I watch a documentary about Mozart’s impact on Classical music, is that idol worship? Or when I write an essay about Jane Austen’s game-changing writing style is that idol worship? I don’t believe it is but if you do I’d like to understand your perspective…
@KeefSweating12 күн бұрын
@@patricialong262 Recognizing someone’s admirable qualities or appreciating their contributions, such as Mozart’s impact on classical music or Jane Austen’s revolutionary writing style, is not inherently idol worship. It’s an acknowledgment of their achievements and influence. Idol worship, in its strict sense, implies excessive adoration or reverence, often to the point of placing the person or entity on a pedestal above all else, possibly to the exclusion of critical thought. Appreciating greatness or drawing inspiration from it is a natural part of learning and growth. As long as the admiration doesn’t lead to blind devotion or the inability to critique their work or legacy, it’s more about respect than idol worship. With that being said, Kendrick becoming a beacon for what is “good” is just as much marketing as it is genuine. He is even aware of that hence “I am not your savior” My point is don’t allow yourself to be let down by people who never were a true reflection of us to begin with. He is a chosen vessel to speak for a large amount of people who have no voice but his mission doesn’t directly reflect the people’s mission. We wouldn’t even be talking about this if it wasn’t for a rap beef that highlighted an alleged woman beater and alleged pedophile. Like wtf are we doing? If any of his accusations were true why tease it above the head of the public and audience? Which part of this is entertainment and shock value and which part of is a meaningful effort to raise the consciousness of the audience or is that even a goal? Maybe he just wants to make his money and go about his business. Who knows. Overall I’m all for the temporary enjoyment of a current artists work but I also have foresight and recognize we are going in the same circle as we did before. Yes, every RAPPER wants to be Kendrick because just like LL COOL J, BIGGIE, PAC, HOV, NELLY, TI, EMENIM, 50 CENT, KANYE, DRAKE the machine has chosen them one at a time to be a representation of a time period or a thought or a product. Rinse and repeat. Why glorify the new robot when we can shut the whole robot factory down and get back to real hiphop where we have a variety of artist with different perspectives and styles and are not in bed with large corporations like STAKE UMG NFL. Shits disgusting.

I can honestly say that Kendrick is an amazing artist and deserves his flowers, BUT there is a lot of glaze going on over him. There are a lot of great artists out there that make amazing music as well that aren’t as known, have their own niche and use incredible wordplay. People just don’t search well enough to find them. There are many artists that take note from Kendrick, but there were great artists before him and will be after him.
