This video portrays JFK assassination, you’re right. And at the beginning she is performing the song by Marilyn Monroe “Happy Birthday Mr.President”. Love your reaction🧡
@Clara-kf5jd2 жыл бұрын
The word you're looking for is motorcade lol. I think you were on the right track about the song being the tale of someone who gets involved with a powerful man and is intoxicated by what being with him brings, and Lana uses the Kennedys as a narrative device to tell that story. They were the closest thing to a beloved royal family the US has ever had, and JFK is the model of an all-powerful, handsome, magnetic, toxic man (given his infamous infidelity). This fits very well in the overall story Born to Die (the album) tells, of a doomed romance between Lana and a man who is awful to her, but who she can't help but desperately love, to the point she ignores all the bad he does to her and feels like she's died once they're no longer together. After you're done with the videos from BTD, it would be really nice if you reacted to the whole album, so you can see how the songs you've listened serve to tell this overarching story. I do believe Lana is one of, if not the best (and most influential) lyricist in modern pop music, and this album reflects that.

She often gets accusations of romanticizing the controversial old America when I don't think that's the case. What she does is she creates a fictional America where there is justice for everyone. But the end is sort of bittersweet. Regardless of how comfortable we think we are, and no matter how much partying and happiness there is there will always be hurt. Also every music video for Born to Die incorporates death in some way. Whether it be her own death, or her partner's death. We see her friend deal with her death in Summertime Sadness.

Just discovered your videos from your reaction to Blue Jeans. I hope you just start listening to each album in order... I honestly think it's the best way to experience her work. Her music videos are also amazing, but I feel like getting the "story" from the albums and then getting the various visuals from the music videos (which often add layers) help a lot, instead of trying to catch all of it at once. Plus, I can just tell that you will love her albums, so I hope you get to enjoy them in full!

@allynemeireles47072 жыл бұрын
The point is: The guy Lana fall in love was so carismatic and powerfull that in the lyrics she compares him to the President. She went to his life as a normal person ("he says to be cool but I dont know how yet"), not very cool and then became the First lady, "the coolest", as she said. They lived those excesses together: partys, money, drugs... but they felt confort in each other. The chorus says that she wanted to be like the National Anthem for him, the major symbol of national devotion - or the person he loves the most.

Lana is describing three women: Manroe, Priscilla Presley and JFK's wife, i think the only common thing between the three women is that they got betrayed by the blurred lines between the real and the fake, like their lives were something and in another moment it get turned to another life, the three women loved their men so much, as Lana is telling the story of one Mistress and two good wives and maybe she wanted the JFK character to be black to describe the ultimate American dream and the equality..
