*NOTE* Regarding the Ciele product: Yes WE know we aren't supposed to rely on SPF in makeup, but I don't think the general public knows that. The product specifically says that the product ITSELF provides an SPF 50+ protection. In the video on her website, the owner specifically says she does NOT recommend putting it on full strength and NO WHERE does it say that it needs to be applied over SPF for people to get that level of protection. New survey results were just published (tinyurl.com/3k9e5f8h) that said 80% of adults report that they have a skin concern, but only 40% of them get a regular scan at a dermatologist. How many of those 40% of people asked their dermatologist about wearing sunscreen under makeup? Maybe 20%? Yes, WE know we need to apply SPF under SPF makeup, but this is NOT common knowledge. Please consider the skin health of the average consumer! It's not just about us, right?

I think you’re absolutely right; if you’re mixing those drops with something else, it’s going to dilute the concentration. It just is, because that’s how it works. I’m with you - I’d wear SPF before makeup or even use the ambre solaire spray sunscreen for after makeup. Figured, like Perry, that this is in potential breach of trade descriptions acts across the world with the claims

I say this respectfully as a skin cancer survivor, how many people that are not aware that they should be using sunscreen under cosmetics with SPF, are actually purchasing prestige cosmetics that contain SPF let alone assuming that the cosmetic foundation, bronzer etc) will provide full protection? I think it’s a very very low number. I think the group here has wisdom regarding sun protection but also the general public is not far behind. They are basically in one of two categories; increasingly aware or don’t care.
@montananerd82443 ай бұрын
@@dogwalker97with all respect, I disagree. I was very proud of myself for starting SPF daily in college. By the time I was in my 30s, in the 00s, I knew that some spf products were not adequate on their own. But, the only facial sunscreens sold in my town were hard to find & quite expensive, so I reasoned that Eucerin daily lotion with 30 SPF was actual sunscreen. 2 decades later, I am very spotty. The public does care, but if you have other serious health concerns and/or can’t afford dermatology visits, it’s not likely you’ll be able to get to the bottom of all this, and you may not be able to afford the outrageous price on sunscreen that is suitable for one’s face. I am guessing you have a fair amount of privilege, I’m very sorry you’ve had to deal with skin cancer, but I’m guessing you do not also have a lot of other serious health concerns, and have the time & resources to get what you need. There’s a lot of us trying to get it right but we don’t make enough money to cover all the preventive must-haves.

I think you should do a deep dive on the Ciele brand. I think they're capitalizing on people's skin anxiety in a dangerous way. Their product descriptions on their website or Sephora say nothing about using their products as supplemental SPF. More importantly, they claim to only use mineral sunscreen, but all of their products contain SPF boosters, which are functionally chemical sunscreens. I didn't even see a mineral SPF clearly listed for their powder! Also, sunscreens are drugs and they're making drug claims about their products.....but their website doesn't even have an ingredients list. The only place to see an ingredients list is a third-party site, Sephora. What they do list, at length, is what they don't include. Except a lot of those ingredients aren't even commonly used in skincare. I mean PLANKTON is on there. C'mon. Also, they don't use "pore clogging" ingredients, like shea bitter, except when they do, like with the beeswax in their products. I think this brand, like many others, is marketing themselves as "ethical" while behaving as unethically as possible. I believe them about sun protection though because they're certainly shady as hell

The best foundation I've found that matches me perfectly without making me too dewy or overly matte is the Lisa Eldridge foundation in shade 23. Depending on the finish and wear of their formula I would actually consider something like this especially if they expand so that you can choose the finish and also choose to make the formula thicker and lighter/darker for concealing and contour. We'll see how this works out for other people.

Not sure I'd invest in this. "Prescriptives" (by Estee Lauder) back in the 80s was amazing and your foundation/powder/concealer was mixed right in front of you. You got to try it before you bought it (I think it was $30-35) which was a tad expensive, but because it matched your skin exactly, it was worth it. A bottle would last from three to six months, plus there was also the option of getting a matching loose powder as I mentioned. I wish they'd bring that back. However, I use my current foundation for more than just its color. It works with my skin type and texture. So, it doesn’t give me the flexibility to use the formula I’d like. But still pretty cool.

Honestly, I think the makeup mixer is a great idea. I would LOVE to have something like that for making the perfect lipstick. I’m in an endless search for the perfect lipstick

I'm very interested to see how well the foundation machine actually works. The biggest problem I've seen with other machines like this (the ones for liostick and nail polish) has been the dosing of the individual colors. I feel like it almost needs to measure them out by weight to really work well. I vote for Jen to buy it and try it out for us! Hey, it's a business expense, right?😂

Thank you for all your research and information Jen. ps: I also love that you match your makeup to your look for the day: cohesive and elegant and elevated!!! Especially today! Love that top!!!!!

Jen I totally agree with you. I’ve been very sceptical about SPF in makeup for ages but as you say diluting SPF products with moisturiser etc has to reduce the SPF. Better than nothing sure. Personally put your SPF on first. Please. But I have to say being an Albino does mean being extra careful. Mad luv. Xxx

Yessss try the foundation machine out if you can! I’d be beyond fascinated to see what you think of it!!

I think the foundation machine is interesting because I'm 58 and my skin has changed in type and undertone over the past 5 years. I'm struggling to find a foundation that's a good match. My old trusty ones are now orange. I've tried tons and been color matched several times but I'm still lost. I might not buy this but I'd love to try it. PS...have a great vacation. We went to Alaska last year and absolutely loved it.

Excited for your trip! If you haven’t, you MUST visit Oregon. You’d be surprised how beautiful it is. I far prefer it over Washington. Enjoy!!

Yes. I fully support the necessary justification for not to get the foundation maker and test it for us. Go for it!

My concern is that you buy the machine and once you get the right matching foundation, but then you don’t like the finish or your skin is too sensitive to use it.
@naomilasby77443 ай бұрын
The foundation mixing device is pretty cool imo, if it works, but it really depends on the formula of the foundation. They would really need to have different formulas/finishes as you said. I custom mix my foundation shade alot in the summer.

@JenLuv I hope You reached out to Ciele to tell them the SPF issue. For those people that don’t happen to follow you. This is super important to tell everyone or at least the company. As my beauty Influencer I’d appreciate you going to bat for us. Thank you ❤

I’m not about the device to mix my foundation. Still bitter about the loss of Prespectives Cosmetics stores (after Eestee Lauder bought them) where a human was employed and trained to colour match and create custom colours of makeup whilst client sat in chair.

Just... I don't know how to say this nicely.. not getting the same color on both eyes is the point. You have to understand how to artistically work with things that don't match. Not everything has to be the exact same all the time...

First time i really fell in love with a palett and first time i have ordered from a indy brand, but i couldn't not by the solmåne 2 pallet from odens eye and two blushes 🙈 love your coverage on the new news in makeup. I have never pampered myself with a really good eyeshadow pallet. Ordered through your link 😉 Im kinda new here but love what you do ❤

I would be interested to see the foundation maker develop into a paint mixer like you have for wall paint, where it mixes too to ensure the product is evenly mixed AND have suggested contour/highlight mixes you can have popped out too.

I love the wand idea. Got matched at Sephora like that and it worked ok. I had to try some on to make sure they were not too orange.

I am in the middle range ( medium dark with neutral undertones) I Always have to buy two shades & even have a blue mixer. My concern with the foundation mixer, is the oxidation. It will match at first but what happens when the oils mix with the foundation?

Boots have been doing the matching service using a face scanning device for a while so I assume this foundation gadget works similarly in terms of shade matching. It's expensive but if it works for the people who find finding the right shade hard and the foundation is good, it can definitely get customers. My only concern for colour matching would be skin discolocoration - any redness, hyperpigmentation - which could lead into incorrect matching, the people in the clips seem to have fairly even skintones.

The Mac lipsticks were so interesting bringing back discontinued shades but they sold out SOOO FAST… flesh pot was super popular and I hope they bring it back ❤ also didn’t they already have a glow play collection?? I have a glow play lip balm from maybe 2 years ago… so is this a shade extension? I know the ph part of the lip balm is new ❤

The foundation maker reminds me of the LIPSKIT lipstick maker. This one is obviously higher tech since it is custom mixing a color to match your skin, but its definitely similar

Oh Jen, I so love your honest opinions! "Burnt butt cheeks" I love it, something you can't unsee or unhear. It is a hard no for me on the foundation mixing machine even if they make one for blush or nail polish lol. Its also a no for me on the bronzing drops, there are only about a million options for me to add my own SPF. No no, no! Thanks for what you do. Have a fantastic vacation, it sounds really cool.

I need you to buy this machine! Not only because I want to see how accurate it is on shade matching but also, I want to know what the quality of the foundation is! Please, be our guinea pig! It's all in the name of beauty and helping us to not buy crap 😂

I’d love to see a review of the foundation mixer. I’d be curious to know how they go. But it is probably a short term novelty. I’ve seen how paint mixer machines that pick up colour from an object, don’t always get the shade right, so I wonder if this can actually pick up on the small differences in skin tone. I really struggle to find a good colour for my really pale skin. If it works it colour be good

Currently I use a 50 spf and a 30 spf foundation and mix those 😬 for my daily face lol I literally dab the two fingers worth and my foundation and then use a brush to swipe it all together and into my face 😬 looks great no dark spots or sun burn so 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
