My life completely changed the moment I was baptised. My testimony is such that my life has done a total 180. I still stumble, I still fall but the Holy Spirit is always there to help guide me, when I truly repent. When I fall there’s a horrendous divide that I feel I have created, a separation from my Lord. It is agonising. But His Spirit is still always there. I have given up so many vices in life since my baptism and it has only been through the Holy Spirit that this has been possible. By myself I am nothing, but it is His Spirit that is my strength. In His Holy name, through His Holy Spirit, we can overcome everything. My depression, anxiety gone. My desire for vices..gone. My ability to completely forgive … only through His Grace and Holy Spirit. The calm and peace and total quiet that your mind, soul and heart goes through is beyond words. The moment I was baptized there was complete calm. I couldn’t actually think of anything. All I could hear was the river flowing, the wind through the trees .. but I couldn’t think of anything. It was a heavenly calm and still , it is here. When I feel I am stumbling or falling I pray to the Most Holy, and He comforts. Baptism is so VERY important. Afterall Our Lord Himself was baptized. GOD is Great! Glory to the Alpha and the Omega! Thank you my Lord ✝️✝️✝️❤️✝️❤️✝️❤️

I'm so confused. As to re-baptism: While on his third missionary campaign, the apostle Paul came to the city of Ephesus. There, he encountered twelve men who formerly had been baptized with the type of baptism administered by John the Baptizer. One might be inclined to conclude, therefore, that the apostle would have accepted these men as they were and merely organized them into a church. But such was not the case. After questioning them as to the nature of their earlier baptism and determining that their pre-baptism instruction on the previous occasion had been lacking in essential details, Paul immersed these men into Christ (see Acts 19:1-5). A simple understanding of the text reveals that their first baptism was deficient in some way. And here is an extremely important implication of this case of re-baptism. The case clearly demonstrates that in order for one’s baptism to be valid, accurate teaching and understanding must precede the rite. Otherwise, the act of baptism is a meaningless exercise and not based on faith (Rom. 10:17). It seems re-baptism is justified by scripture in some cases.

Paul did not re-baptize them in water but baptize them in the name of the Lord Jesus, this is baptism in the Holy Spirit as shown in verse 6.
@nikeinjesus13 жыл бұрын
Acts 18 sheds light on why Paul baptized the 12 into Christ. Apollos had been mistakenly baptizing folks under John's baptism "after the cross," we're looking at a good 19-20 since John's baptism was valid. Meaning, everyone who was baptized under John's baptism before the cross did not have to be re-immersed on Pentecost. Apollos, depending on his age somehow missed Pentecost and the information given by the apostles. But when Aquilla and Priscilla heard him preaching in the synagogue, "they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more accurately" (Acts 18:26). After Apollos leaves Ephesus Paul eventually makes his way to Ephesus where Apollos had been preaching and find these 12 disciples that caught his attention. When Paul learns they had been baptized under John's baptism which was no longer valid, he explains to them of the risen Christ and baptizes them by the authority of Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. After he baptizes them, the Holy Spirit comes upon them giving them the gift of tongues and prophecy to "confirm the Word" (Mk.16:20). John's baptism before the cross was a "baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins" (Mk.1:4), reason for them not having to be re-baptized on Pentecost, their sins had been forgiven. But when Christ died and shed his blood, John's baptism ended, and the gospel came into effect. 40 days after Jesus rose from the dead is when He instructed his apostles to preach the gospel, those who believed and were baptized would be saved. This is exactly what Paul did, he taught the twelve of the risen Christ, as you pointed out they were lacking essential details, and baptized them accordingly. This was not a "baptism of the Holy Spirit" as some propose.

The New Testament includes four passages that explicitly refer to “households” being baptized. In the first Century, it was unimaginable to have households without infants (unlike today). 1) “She was baptized, with her household” (Acts 16:15); 2) “He was baptized at once, with all his family” (Acts 16:33); 3) Acts 18:8 (..the entire household...were baptized). 4) “I did baptize also the household of Stephanas.” (1 Corinthians 1:16)
@DavidPawsonMinistry9 ай бұрын
It does say households but you assume that includes infants and babies - it certainly would have included all adults, men women and servants, but you cannot just take these verses and ignore all of the teaching on baptism. Believers baptism, repent, believe and be baptised - if all adults and servants repented and were baptised within a household you would still collectively say "she and her household were baptised " ......whether that included babies or not. The verses you quote to not prove conclusively young children and babies were baptised certainly all adults and not just family and a jewish boy was considered a man when he was 13 When David served in the RAF in Aden a number of Muslim men converted to Christianity, and asked David to baptise them ,.......one by one - every one of them, without exception were murdered When David returned to UK he was challenged and disturbed - if being baptised as a christian was a death sentence to Islam, what does this signify? and he refused to place a death sentence on an infant or a baby form that time forward. Infants and Babies who had not chosen to be baptised by themselves. Study the Bible and consider exactly what Baptism is. - circumcision was a sign, that from both someone was born into a family, but baptism is not just symbol - its a sacrament with spiritual significance and consequences for an Muslim its a death sentence
@gedat55389 ай бұрын
Baptism is not a reward I can merit by my FAITH or believing!. It is an unmerited gift the Lord gives us which we call GRACE. An infant can receive a gift! The infant too is in a state of rebellion against God - it is under corporate responsibility. Therefore, it too must die and be regenerated and be BORN AGAIN in Christ.
@DavidPawsonMinistry9 ай бұрын
Please let me know where in the Bible it refers to Baptism as a gift? - John preached repent and be baptised for the forgiveness of sins - Acts 2 states: "Repent and be baptised - for the forgiveness of sins, .... save yourselves from this corrupt generation and those who accepted were baptised " - Repent - - Be Baptised - Acceptance Whilst I can accept that there comes a point when an infant knows the difference between right and wrong, and is capable of repenting that state of awareness cannot be applied to a baby nor infants of all ages. Baptism is a sacrament - a physical action with a divine /spiritual significance which is why it's called "believers baptism" Baptism is nothing more than a symbol unless there is 'belief' and repentance. There are many denomination that baptise infants and I myself was christened as a Methodist baby. But when I discovered Jesus for myself, I was convicted that I needed to repent of my sins not corporate sins - things I had done wrong , and the need for me to be baptised, it was not a decision my parents could make for me.

What is GRACE but a gift??
@DavidPawsonMinistry9 ай бұрын
Of course, Grace and Mercy are an underserved Gift which there is nothing we can do to 'earn' but you were referring to Baptism and thats a "choice "....... to accept or reject Gods Grace is given for ALL - but to all will be saved, " who ever believes will be saved". "one has to deny oneself, pick up your cross and follow"....conscious decisions - choices .......repentance is a key part of forgiveness because if there is "no repentance there is no forgiveness".and "all have sinned and fallen short " Repentance and Baptism are required for forgiveness of sins .............forgiveness is possible because of Gods underserved Grace...... .......Grace has nothing to do with us or what we do, we cannot earn it through works - its free because of Gods Mercy ....... but it requires faith and obedience Repent, believe, be baptised and God through, His undeserved Grace does everything else But without obedience, what God has gifted - can be lost Hebrews 10 and 2 Peter 2:20 ...... let's not take this Gift for granted - but love him and obey his commandments - it's simple but must not be taken for granted

I am wondering about water baptism, when I realize we already have been baptized by God while in the womb. We already were surrounded by the liquid in the womb that God created by creating the miracle of birth. It's as if man didn't like that we were baptized through God via a woman so man created a secondary baptism of water done by them. I have no idea why Jesus Christ excepted man, John the baptist to re baptize him after God already did through Mary his mother.

Repentance and baptism are like faith and confession ...I do think people should understand their Christian baptism because the apostles declared to the people that were cut to the heart and converted by the word of the Lord they declared to them the word of the Lord to die with Christ to be buried with him had to be raised up with him to walk in newness of life I understood fully that they were dying with Christ to their old life of sin and that their baptism was their burial and that when they came up out of the water they were going to be raised with Christ and filled with his spirit .. Acts 2:38 is the clear apostolic teaching and our foundation for Faith and baptism and repentance in Christ for the remission of our sins and the promise of receiving the Holy Spirit we also need to help people and they need to have faith to receive the promise of the father people need to genuinely repent and receive the Holy Spirit... Or I'm not so sure they're born again John 3:5 born of water and no spirit without which no one can enter the kingdom of God

Okay as much as I love David Pawson’s teaching in this particular lesson he is saying something that contradicts his teaching concerning forgiveness. According to this video posted it says It was taught in Singapore in 2014 yet in another video where he is teaching in the states in 2016 he says that you cannot forgive someone who will not repent yet he is saying in this lesson that in order to obtain mercy you have to forgive someone and he never even mentions wether or not the individuals referenced even repented and leaves the hearers with the impression that you are to forgive them wether or not they even repent when later he says that forgiving someone cannot be possible unless they repent. I’m not interested in hearing from people doing his speaking for him I would like to hear from him himself on this contradiction if he is still alive I’m assuming he is I don’t really know.

Hi Thomas - This is Steve on behalf of David. I acknowledge that you want to hear from David himself. David is still with us at 89 yrs of age but he has been struggling with ill heath for a number of years compounded by the fact a few weeks ago he suffered a serious fall and has been in hospital ever since. So he is unable to respond in person Perhaps you would permit me to offer my understanding - One statement concerns my relationship with GOD in that if I want to receive GOD Mercy then I cannot harbour any unforgiveness - unforgiveness would drive a wedge between me and GODs mercy The other statement is between two people. I can forgive someone who has wronged me but it is meaningless unless they want to be forgiven and repent . How many of us have loved someone but the feelings were not mutual? Our love falls on stony ground unless the person we love wants to be loved. Forgiveness and reconciliation has to be a two way agreement. I have no excuse not to forgive someone but if they do not repent, my forgiveness is meaningless GODs mercy for me is not conditional on whether the other person who has wronged me accepts my forgiveness, but GODs mercy for me is conditional on me forgiving others eg GOD will forgive me if I forgive others This is my opinion, the statements are both correct and describe different circumstances/relationships I wish and pray David was able to address you in person.

In Acts 2:38-39 38 Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized everyone of you...... 39 For the promise is made to you and to your CHILDREN..." In the light of this, there is no reason whatsoever to deny children baptism (especially if the parents take the responsibility to bring them up in the faith). Parents are continually making choices for their children: food, clothes, entertainment, schooling etc. etc. But when it comes to spiritual things like Baptism, why is this reluctance? By Baptism we enter a Covenant relationship with the Trinity? Why should the children be excluded from this Covenant? By Baptism we enter the family of God! We are not isolated individuals - only "I" and "God". Of course, Children must be educated in the Faith as they mature by the parents so that they can make that faith their own. They have all the freedom to reject what was chosen for them by their parents who were guided by the wisdom of their faith. Through their childhood years, they have the opportunity (if the parents are earnest and faithful to their own Baptismal vows) to grow up as God's children. I do not think it is right to leave the children in a vacuum or a limbo of God's favour. The "promise" is also for the children. (v39)
@DavidPawsonMinistry9 ай бұрын
The Children are not left in a vacuum nor unwanted - we can only be judged for what we know and teachers will be judged more strictly James 3:1. Please don't stop at vs 39 by carry on to vs 40 "Those that "accepted" his message were baptised " It takes a level of maturity to understand and accept - that is why I refer to it as Believers Baptism - its not for me to judge how old a child must be to be a believer but certainly the babies and toddlers I know are not in a position to accept or reject .....and Im confident a just and righteous God would also be merciful to them The age old problem is what happens to babies and toddlers /young children ?...that is the Lords challenge who is righteous and just Our commission as adults is to go and make disciples of of all nations - its about discipling not just baptising, and specifically baptising those who "accept " v40 - believers who make a public confession of their faith Its not about baptising who households ......everyone "living" ..... unless there is a conscious choice to 'believe' you can separate repentance , and believing from Baptism -but I cannot - forgiveness is about believing repenting and being Baptised - Acts 2 I have no 'faith' this will convince you but I cannot leave statements unanswered which are simply not the complete picture taught in the book of Acts As David Pawson said - "Check me out" if you don't find what I am saying in Gods word then please ignore me! - but if it is in Gods word, you have a choice to make. The argument for infant baptism comes from the same origins as circumcision - you are born into Gods family and you can choose to walk away - that is the old law - not New Testament Teaching, Please respect I came from a background of "infant baptism" - I was baptised as a Baby ..........it was much later that I was "convicted" that what I read in Gods word is different to what I was taught by others - What does Gods word say ........!
@gedat55389 ай бұрын
The word "accepted" in verse 40 simply indicates those who were present 'there and then' but the PROMISE is made to their 'children and to all those far off'. This strongly indicates that 'children and those far off. (i.e. their households) were also baptized soon afterwards. Otherwise the PROMISE would be vain! The Holy Spirit received in Baptism is a "GIFT" and not a reward for belief.

The definition follows the word, even though it's transliterated. What's important is the meaning and you know full well the meaning of baptism. The word baptism in English has a nuance that is different from dip, soak, plunge, etc.. Do you have any issue with delicatessen, café, kindergarten, patio, or chocolate? We adopt words from other languages and when we don't have an exact English word to use as its translation, we simply use the original word. That's how English and many other languages work.
