I wish it was as easy as Jack makes it look. It takes so much practice not to have to think where you are or where you want to get to. I guess that you just have to keep at it until it is just in your fingers. Thanks

Stop! Just as I dig into yet another of your excellent instructional videos, you post another one!!! My brain is like long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs! Fortunately, you have the instructional presence to scaffold your lessons with repeated "motifs" (caged system, triads, etc.) so each has a sense of "familiarity." Amazing!

Great lesson! With this lesson, I realized that I have been gravitating to one or two positions on the fretboard when playing blues. This is really powerful. Put the building blocks together across the neck and true freedom will present itself.

Jack I watch YT guitar lessons from many channels. You have the most relaxed but decisive playing style I've ever seen. It's like your hands know exactly where they are going and always arrive right on time.

Welp - if you can't play a simple blues after this, then maybe the best advice is to drop the guitar and take up the flute. 😏 This is the key to the highway. Thank you Jack - forever grateful!

I think people get stuck in the monolithic caged shape pentatonic scales is because they only view it as such, like a silo, two walls (borders) on either side. If instead you first picture the triad (2nd inversion surrounding the root note) centered about two scale shapes to the left and right there are no silo walls. Navigate the triad islands by using the additional scale notes as passing notes. That’s where the knowledge of the generic shape or anatomy of any caged scale shape and the scale degrees within it comes in handy. Really need to know those scale degrees within the two sub-parts of the pentatonic scale shape, both minor and major.

Another excellent video! Thank you for the time put into this. Do you ever think about playing the A major/minor pentatonic over the 4 and 5 chords as well, or do you pretty much stick with arpeggios for the 4 and 5?

301. very helpful /// what is the basic concept and ideas for doing daily practice/study? What I mean is a couple of examples (thinking) as to pre-planning time etc. I have no routine and find I quickly get side tracked into daily chores and shine it on for the day.

Break up your time into short periods of very focused practice. Keep hitting the same few things every day until it clicks. That’s what works for me

I am in the middle of the "magic of triads - rhythm edition" but got drawn into this video just like I do with most of the videos you put out. what's that Gshaped A7? 5452xx and drop the 5th -- dropping the 5 is ok since R37 are present.
@JackRuch
@JackRuch 3 ай бұрын
Yeah that’s the idea. There’s a million variations on these voicings. But yeah, you don’t always have to play every note. Dropping the 5th works well.

Well, basically, blues bores the hell out of me, but dude! you make it almost bearable. Seriously. If you applied yourself (to escaping the blues genre) you could really make something of yourself. You've mastered this stuff, time to move on. . . . I have a feeling this comment won't go over well. Oops.

Then you should listen to Jack when he is jazzing up... When diminished scales, lydian b7 and tritone substitutions come into play. He is a great multi-skilled guitarist.
