i've been play videogames for an actual decade and i used to have terrible positioning in general. but overwatch fixed that for me. a good general tip for positioning is to stay next to walls untill its a subconscious thing u do, it worked for me atleast

Very helpful video but I have a question: When you say to time your off angle with your team are you saying that you shouldn't try to set one up if your team is currently pressuring and it's going to take you out of the fight temporarily? Or are you just saying not to start pressuring from your off angle if your team is not pressuring from their angles already?

I think in general if the fight has already started, taking more conservative off-angles that don't put you in massive "downtime" would be optimal.

When do you know that you should flank though? Like, when I flank as a support, suddenly my entire team dies and I’m to blame, and when I flank as dps (which I usually do with pharah or reaper), I instantly get focused down and die, or my team gets pushed back really hard because I no longer have a presence in the frontline.

You’re taking the off angles way too early or way too late. Just pressure the frontline first, see what is happening and recognise what angles are free. I have the same problem and I’m hard stuck masters on dps rn because of this. But, hopefully the both of us can overcome this problem :)

Can you discuss dealing with snipers on support? I find it hard to get value when the other team has a really good widow/Ashe/Hanzo especially as an Ana main who plays the same angles as them.

Hey so I've hit t500 on Ana and even I struggle with this. You have to do your best to find long sightlines that aren't controlled by the enemy snipers but give you access to your team and the rest of the enemy team ( can be hard depending on the map) the other option is to play shorter sightlines (which can be hard if the 2nd dps flanks you or they rush you) so there is no perfect answer to where to position except to find whatever sightline you can that keeps you safe and allows you to get value. (And also only ever challenge an enemy sniper when you know they're actively shooting at someone else and not looking at you)

It’s harder as Ana than the other supports. If the game is normal and the player is simply good at window or whoever, you can try to make her your prime enemy. Often one Ana shot will cause her grief and then you can go back to playing safe sightlines etc. However, if I’m against a carry widow player, it almost always seems like their whole team invests everything in her and falls apart if she doesn’t get kills. In these situations I don’t normally switch heroes but I will against her. Kiriko and zen are best at screwing her up. I rationalize, “this player is too good at widow and whatever I do we are gonna lose anyways, unless she’s somehow dead.” I’ll go Kiriko and literally no longer play support. Heal here and there when it’s convenient and you can’t work on anything else, but otherwise commit all of your attention to sneaking up in widow and headshot her; take offangles to surprise her, the headshots are very important so aim and prelim carefully. I find in solo queue competitive games I’ve stopped GM widow smurfs and even top 500 widows from winning the game. I still lose like half the time against it, but for me if I stuck on my normal support strategy I’d lose 100% of the time.

With Ana you still got nade and sleep, which are more mid-range as they're projectiles. Unlike Widow and Ashe you don't lose damage for unscoped shots. With a sniper on the enemy team there'll be at least one less flanker hunting you and your team will take less bits of chip damage, which leaves you more free to run around as a mid-range hit-and-run vigilante granny.

when running a brawl, most heroes benefit from the stacking such as Moira or bap, because of the aoe healing. A mei as she allows your tank to put much more aggression.

Everytime I try to play off angles (I’m around gold-plat) the entire enemy team just dives on me and hard chases me the second they see me it’s insanely annoying because it’s braindead but somehow works for them

What hero are you playing and are you waiting for your team to engage them first? The deeper the angle the later you need to engage (after the enemy is committing their attention AND cool downs). Heroes like Tracer, Sombra and even Soldier to an extent WANT the entire enemy team to chase them if they are positioned correctly/have the correct CDs, but if your team isn't applying pressure then it's pointless.

@@GriFFonRec4 I play a lot of heroes on DPS but I mainly play tracer, echo, genji, and Mei, and last night I made the extra effort to play off angles with tracer and the enemy team acted like I pissed in their cereal or something. Maybe I need to wait for my team to engage more. I tend to get impatient and push before the rest of my team

"this isn't any hard carry life hack; this is giving yourself many different advantages" EXACTLY a thing abt overwatch is that many casual players neglect these numerous small advantages that inch out the win. With relatively low time to kill for the game, for 2 players of relatively different skill, sometimes the worse player can still clutch it out, be it with ults or cheese plays (which are easy to set up and hard to break down). And that leaves many players to get lazy on the fundamentals. It would be great if higher level players narrated all the good habits that they've ingrained, play-by-play, but i guess that's not exactly popular content.

Issue I have is almost always LOS (I’m support). It’s SO HARD to rotate to and hold a good angle where your tank is actually giving you sight. Tanks always seem to LOVE using cover for you and being open for the enemy team but I constantly CONSTANTLY find I either take an angle and my team just f*ck off around corners so I can’t get them, if I’m playing high ground they just go underneath me or around so I can’t see them so I drop to low and take cover and they push up so I still can’t see them. It feels like the ONLY way to impact games right now is to play stacked basically on the tank as someone like moira or bap and to just be brawling up front directly next to the tank and if pressure gets too much you get out. Every game feels like total chaos :/ this is plat btw

For plat on support, especially if you are a Bap player, focus on KILLING the people your tank is INTing into. It's like a "when life gives you lemons" thing. You may have a brain-dead tank, but he might be able to get people low enough for YOU to kill them, even if there's no hope of saving the tank. The best part is, when you are focusing on "following up" on what your tank is doing damage-wise, you will ALSO save their life more often, because the 3 people shooting them that you couldn't heal through is NOW just 1 or 2 people, and you can safely pocket them back up. Basically if you can't secure a kill on the damage your tank is doing before they die, then you're leaving a ton of SR on the table. You can combine this with some cheeky flank angles on bap on certain maps, If you can make the enemies walk into your LOS for damage to get to your tank, while standing in a place where you have an escape, and positioning accordingly for enemy ultimates (i.e. don't take a cheeky flank when you know the Zarya is just going to turn and solo-grav you; but Rein is fine to disrespect if you can time your jump to escape shatter) And lastly, in the same vein as the previous point, learn which enemy ultimates are most dangerous to you, and which ones you can outplay. Bap is great against Visor, Deadeye, Tire, Dva-bomb, Bob, Dragonstrike(hanzo), and Orisa ult, but not very good against Freeze, EMP, Grav, Death Blossom, and even flux can be tough if the sigma is really good (he can smash you on his head and not let you use inmo). Ana is good against Death Blossom, Visor, Deadeye, Flux, and Bob, but she can be pretty vulnerable to things like Junk tire, Hanzo ult in certain rooms on certain maps, Orisa ult (since she turns gold and can't be slept) and Freeze. It's always worth asking whether you could do more to personally disrupt the enemy team's carry in games you are losing. Simply healing more will always be less effective than getting the opening pick in a fight.

I would even say diamond. As a DPS or supports like bap and kiri/moira, you can easily reach masters just by knowing when and how to off angle. I would know this because I have 3 accounts that I climbed from gold/plat to masters in like a month 💀
