The Key to Thumbnail Sketches

Hey everyone, welcome to the first video in my new series titled: "10,000". In today's video we start from the beginning of my creative process. Thumbnail sketches. Thumbnail sketches are vital to your overall planning and painting. It gives you a chance to let your mind roam free to envision anything. Whatever you are thinking of, draw it. You may come back to it at a later date or draw something so spectacular, you need to jump into the studio right away. Whatever it may be, thumbnail sketches are very important for any artist. I explain my thumbnail sketch process in this video.

I would find it inspiring to see you paint a floral, because I planted 29 Dahlia tubers in my garden this year and am waiting with baited breath for my first bloom!

I would love the abstract one! I feel like there are plenty of teaching and examples on how to do a figurative drawing and with abstract there’s barely any guidance/inspiration. I’m feeling kind of on a border between those two if that even exists but that’s why I think that would be invaluable to see. I really appreciate what you’re putting out here for us to learn!

I want to see both!! But I lean toward the floral because I am also an abstract painter that wants to paint flowers. I just finished a couple of realistic birds and oh my gosh - the feathers! No patience - overwhelming and thats how I feel about flowers too,

I agree with you if it is done like grandmas painting flowers in a vase BUT....if done more abstractly it can be and is exciting.
