Hey Brittney great information. I use the Canon R5c and you just gave me a better understanding of the false color. BTW if you have two subject of different color tone skin where do you compromise if they in the same shot. Looking forward as usually
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
So this is always tough. First, I try to make sure that the darker subject is not in the shadow, and the lighter subject is not in the light. That will automatically help balance it out. As far as false color you want to make sure you don’t expose the skin on the lighter complexion but not have it too dark on the darker subject. So really this is where false color or zebra would help and come into play. But the biggest thing would be how you light for each complexion
@titusnixon9 ай бұрын
I like that answer, and appreciate it. I have a better understanding of false color and how to read it better. Thanks for your insight.🧡@@BrittneyJanae

😎☀I take a very amateur approach and just start moving the controls for the exposure, levels, and curves. Not really knowing what I am looking to do, but when something seems right, I stop. I reckon if I look back on all the photos, I could probably figure out what my aesthetic is but just haven't thought much about it until recently. But I can say that I really like night photos so maybe I should start there.

☀️First! Thanks for the great detailed video. You mentioned the small HD... What are your thoughts on the Ninja V? Currently using monitor+ on an older pixel 2 phone. No complaints except it draws power from the FX3. Keep em' coming!!
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
I’ve dabbled with the Ninja but it does too much for me. I’m a minimalist when it comes to details. So I like easy menus, not too much happening in terms of trying to understand. Smallhd has some of the most accurate colors I’ve ever seen come from a monitor! Ans with the fx3 I don’t need the atomos cause I’m usually not shooting a diff output which is what I feel the pro of the atomos is.

Thanks! In practice, what percentage would you set your zebra's to as ''max exposure'' for dark and light skins? Sony FX30 doesn't have false color unfortunately
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
Depends on the person. But darker Malik maybe do std range at 50 +2 (play around in that area) if they are lighter maybe 60, and for lower limit start at 70. You could also try 95. Max of course is 100 but you want to do at least 90 so you know for sure you’re not blowing out your highlights.

Thanks, I am wondering what you set your Zebras to for skin tones on your Sony camera, I do not think you actually mentioned that? I saw another tutorial that show to set it up around 50- 65% but cannot find that video anymore... Seems like a good back up to false colors to double check.. Can you let us know what you set your Zebras to on your Sony? Thanks! The tutorial I remember showed the guy saying you can set it up to once the Zebras show up on the skin tone you are good... Right when they start to show up...? Hope that makes sense, Thanks!!
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
So zebras work in the same way as false color so the percent is the ire. You will have to test on the actual skin tone but for me usually 59% is good. You would use the standard to set it up.
@ekphotography9 ай бұрын
@@BrittneyJanae Thanks for responding nd so quickly.. I will try that.. I always use Fasle Colors and was the best thing I ever did to get proper exposure years ago... Nothing beats it, but I would like try the zebras trick along side it..

I used Zebras mostly but with my atomos monitor I have tried false colors but it doesn’t show the IRE numbers and the colors are different than ARRI false colors so I just stick to zebras.
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
That make sense. Smallhd has options of different false color spectrums so Arri and a couple other options. Not sure if atomos has that. Even tho I was arguing with you via text zebras is good too lol.
@one9019 ай бұрын
Yeah the Atomos false colors is weird. I will send you a pic
@colinthecameraguy9 ай бұрын
I agree that False Colour/Color is the ‘safest’ as it doesn’t rely on the operator, and what they set the Zebras to, but then zebras can be left on full time without much visual interference, unlike False Collar 🤷
@BrittneyJanae9 ай бұрын
To each it’s own! That’s what I love about it! As long as you are using them, that’s all that matters. On cinema cameras zebras aren’t really the go to. Maybe with hybrid cameras and mirrorless. But on arri cameras and etc, false color is more ideal.
