I love watching good players with bad swings. It really shows that golf is more of a mentality than anything. Good players with bad swings tend to be more focused on keeping the round going than blowing up and breaking clubs over every bad contact/swing that pops up. Keep proving people wrong!

I disagree with u on fundamentals- there are no fundamentals set in stone - for every fundamental out there I’ll show u a great golfer that did it differently - every golfer needs to find his own ‘set of fundamentals’ - bottom line - find a swing that works for u and one which u are comfortable with ! - I love your video and your approach to this lovely game 👍

I think once people get the basics they can deviate. They can then learn what they like, what is comfortable, or what they are physically capable of. I think people should use their natural swing with a correct grip and little more. The best swing, like the best fly cast, he best home runs, or the best strikes are the ones I never think about. The ones that I'm not thinking anything at all or everything. Depends on the day.

One thing you do better than most people I know is keeping your misses in play. A lot of people draw up great plans and the top it into a creek, pop it up OB, or any number of poor shots. Your swing is good enough that it goes generally where you’re hoping, or it’s a bad shot but still in play.

I’m 55 years old, and an 8.1 index, I don’t have a great swing, it’s not bad, it’s just not great, but I did get better when I slowed my backswing down (smoother transition) and shortened my back swing, but that’s just for me, everyone’s swing is unique. Ever since I stopped caring what my swing looked like, I was finally able to get a somewhat reliable and repeatable swing. It doesn't look pretty but I'm starting to get to a point where I trust what my body is going to do. Whatever happens, happens. I only play for fun so for a more serious golfer it makes sense to iron out some swing mechanics but that's what I love about this game. No two swings are exactly alike, yet both swings can get to the same target.

I mean look at Scottie Scheffler the #1 in the world. He's got an unconventional swing and really unconventional footwork. It's all about getting the clubface square and making consistent contact, doesn't matter how you get there. You do that well, and I'd say better than the majority of golfers (most people aren't single digit hcps). I think you downplay the effectiveness of your ball striking. You're rarely out of play and can execute your shortgame shots very well. This is coming from a 23hcp who has been told has a pretty swing. I'm still learning the course management aspect of the game and am still inconsistent with my low point or impact, heck I've still yet to break 90, I'd kill to have your game!

Great videos and entertainment Adam, thanks. When I turned 60, my game went south pretty fast after 25 years of being a 6-7 handicap with some bad fundamentals (but pretty good athleticism to compensate). About that age we lose some coordination and nervous system abilities. If your swing has some less than ideal moves on takeaway and at top, it’s hard to be consistent and it gets a lot harder to play well as you get older. You obviously have a great impact position and athleticism and by the way better fundamental positions than I did. But if I had my youth back, I I’d spend 10 minutes at every driving range session on a slow motion perfect takeaway to a perfect top position, freeze, then swing hard from there. Forget it the rest of the time and play golf with a swing without thinking. Just let your brain and muscle memory get that training a few minutes every session. When you get older, you’ll have more consistency and your swing will hold up for years of enjoyment. I’m still not perfect, but practiced a lot, got much more fundamental positions and now at 69 am playing 4-5 hcp golf with much less drama. Keep up the good work.

your golf journey is really inspirational mate, I've followed your journey over the last couple of years now. You are spot on, your swing is YOUR swing and it's functional for you, that's the key! the way you think about golf on the course is what separates you from higher handicappers that have lets say a more pleasing looking swing. The amount of people I've seen on course who's swing looks like it could be fleetwood or Mcilroy, but every shot is either a chunk/top/slice/hook, they have 2 way misses etc and all they think about is first and last parallel, I need to do this in the downswing etc, they end up just aiming down the centre of the fairway and hoping they hit it straight, which usually means it's slicing or hooking away from centre and into trouble. There is so much wisdom people can take from your videos/course management, ignore the noisy minority that rag on your swing, I like your swing because it works for the most part and you're owning it

I think the most important thing is how you adjust during a round. What shape am I hitting, am I long today short or on point. I am I driving poorly if so when can I safely hit driver or there are some days when I will drop all the way to five iron. I can carry a five iron 220 and on some fairways with roll out I can still get 250 out of the five. Do I need to hit driver is it worth the risk. Yes I would love to chip on the short par fours but the more clean looks I get from 190 the more I score. Not all will be perfect. Most par fours are reachable with 2 irons, most par 5s are reachable with three irons. I get in trouble when I get greedy. Keep it down the middle and suddenly your room for error on approaches drastically improves.

Re: pretty good impact position. I think it's quite good. Having a "good" swing kinda (kinda!) only matters from about 9:00 to 6:00. Look at all the crazy swings, Furyk, Wolff, etc... They are more similar to the "good" swings in those positions than people might think. In general, the better people are at golf, the more minor the variations as you get close to impact.

Pretty decent score considering you are constantly hitting 3 hybrids and 5 woods as approach shots. Are you sure you are playing the right tees for your game?

have you ever thought about using a higher lofted driver? with those low bullet draws you are sending out i think it would net you a whole lotta more distance
@NotAScratchGolfer
@NotAScratchGolfer 2 ай бұрын
Have looked at this in a fitting. I tend to hit down on the ball. Increasing loft actually just increased spin and caused my drives to go shorter. My current driver is 10.75°.

Scottie schefflers swing and world ranking show say enough. Even if you have a "perfect" swing like say aiming at tour average numbers. Even then that's average for pros, many are on either side and are the best players.

Hey Adam, appreciate your content! Do you ever consider doing collabs, scrambles, etc.? Or is that not really your cup of tea? I think it would be cool to see.

Have looked at this older fella who uses a upside-down grip 😳😳😳 ??! He pust his left hand upside-down at a 45° angle with his left thumb at the top of the club and just smashes the ball 🤯😳🤦‍♂️ Im just getting back to "playing" after 20 years and not much experience them 20 years ago 🤣🤣🤣

My long game is a little mercurial but certainly better than my 18hc would suggest. I definitely lose too many shots around the green and within 50 yards of the hole. In particular I suffer with the yips when chipping and with putts under 5ft. I reckon to miss 3 or 4 under 5ft every round and blow out at least a couple of chips (and I take putter for shots I really should be chipping quite often too). I practice chips and short putts but practice doesn’t stop the yips and the yips are a total mental thing as they get worse when the rest of my game is better and I am on for a very good score. I try not to let it get me down but it is so disappointing to card an 89 and know that it included two flubbed chips and 4 missed within 5ft. I feel like I have just donated 5 or 6 to the course. People I play for the first time often say “you shouldn’t be playing off 18” during the round and then I walk off with around 90 somehow. If I had Adam’s short game I reckon that I would be playing off 7 too.

I also don’t understand how people don’t warm up. I need at least an hour before tee time to loosen up.

Ideally I like to warm up for ~15 minutes. It was just too cold/early to get in a proper warm up for this round. I think an hour warm up would kill me!
