A perfect short introduction to the Pre-Raphaelites!

So beautiful. The women have quite masculine faces? It seems to me that what we are trying to do today is this very same thing, rediscover our past. Jared George, American Zarathustra, and others are producing some lovely music and fine art. And Jason, who Jared streams with, has coined the phrase Going Free for everyone who is not OK with mainstream culture. I shall think of them now as the Free-Raphaelites!

Such an interesting movement.... so many masterpieces. I believe Tolkien actually grew up near a gallery devoted to William Morris, and visited it regularly. Studying the movement, I was always disappointed that none of its major members were catholic. There seems so many connections to English medieval-ism and the oxford movement, you'd think that it would make some sort of impression.....

peitro dominic Yes... they definitely had Catholic leanings though. Christina Rossetti was Anglo-Catholic and considered becoming a nun.

Thank you, an interesting and informative video on this important group of artists, often derided and dismissed as vulgar over-the top Victorianism in the rush to embrace modernism. The wonderful Lady Leverhulme Museum in the delightful Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, UK has housed many Pre-Raphaelite paintings, collected by the late Lord Leverhulme -of Sunlight Soap fame :)

@@JustineBrownsBookshelf I say, jolly good, and if you do, the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead was also home to some artworks - It has been some time since I visited, but worth a go. Liverpool business people were important supporters of the Pre-Raphaelite artists :) Well done once again !!

I believe Birmingham City Museum And Art Gallery has the biggest Pre-Raphaelite collection on public display in the world. Well worth visiting . The local council also commissioned some works on display there.

Flooride1 yes indeed. Tate Britain has many beautiful PR paintings. There’s a show on at the National Portrait Gallery called PreRaphaelite Sisters. Up until January.
