its actually because they cannot collect information on childeren PERIOD, and cannot directly advertise to them! At least whitelist THE TYPES of things that can be advertised to childeren, and just simply do not collect data on health and educational information, or soclit to ask for it. In short, if they cannot collect any info, we are left with disturbing kids content because they cannot make a reliable buck.

To me i think the whole brain rot / ipad kid thing is very overblown. Not every has a cellular or internet device or access to it and for the ones that do theyre no different then the previous generations that came before. Your worried that kids will develop an unhealthy view of the world from social media but tv has been doing the same thing, so do magazines of models and other forms of media. I'm a new parent. My son is nearly 2 years old. Growing up alongside the internet (literally), I know exactly how I'm gonna raise my son. Parenting isn't easy, yes. But it is inexcusable that children have free reign in their homes to the internet. No monitoring. No parents educating themselves on modern internet advancements, dangers, etc. I'm a relaxed dude. I'm not gonna be some superpower to my child, and keep him on a leashe. But I'm not gonna be absent. I'm gonna be engaged. Why? Because I AM A PARENT, and it's my responsibility to not hover, but to engage with my child in activities, and teach them how to safely engage with it. WHATEVER it may be. That's how you prevent your kid from rug pulling or getting kidnapped or relentlessly bullied or any of that. If i can help it, he won't have social media. Also... I dont think most adults need smart phones.

I did some reading about this, apparently it’s unlikely to pass in the house this cycle because the speaker opposes it. Johnson said he likes it “in spirit” but that the act as it’s written has a lot of problems. Elon supports it but meta and google do not. Trump has remained silent on it, his son has thrown his support behind it. Johnson wants to work on this once Trump is in office apparently

would you drop your kid off in the middle of NYC alone? No? Then why are you dumping them on the internet alone? Be a parent. You can set up a whitelist on your router, so they can only access the sites you allow, and I'm sure you can do that with phones and tablets too.

The People should have control, not the government. The government only controls a small percentage, while the people control most of everything else. We can’t have too much policing, because then it’s controlling too much. Sure, safety is important, but you shouldn’t have too much of it. I’ve been sheltered for pretty much my entire life, but at least I still have my freedom to do my own thing and express myself. I will always stand for freedom of expression, there’s other ways to protect the kids. You can be an actual parent, and control what your kid does online. Heck, i didn’t have social media until I was like 13/14, and before that…i played online games, like club penguin, jump start, animal jam, etc. Why don’t we have those types of games anymore? They were a safe space for kids to hang out in! We don’t have any safe 3rd places for kids anymore, both online and offline, and that’s why kids are out of control, because they’re in places they shouldn’t be! We need more safe 3rd places for them…Cmon people!

When done responsibly, I'd argue regulation is good on the condition that the title is accurately representative of the contents. If not, it's dismissed without further discussion until it is. What's curious to me is how they say "Think of the kids" when discussing online content, but where's that same emphasis toward gun control, voting rights, or even requirements to run for office to begin with? Instead, moments of silence when shootings inevitably keep happening, bibles in the classroom, and book bans are somehow more important than safe, accessible, and affordable public transit, healthcare, and education for all.
