I love how Hinata kinda defends (not really defend but idk what other word to use ) Kageyama for this instance considering Kageyema never held back when it comes to criticizing Hinata since EP01. Hinata has been taking the brunt of it and we just find it acceptable since Hinata is the least skilled player in the team, he just rolls with it and try to improve as much as he can to the point they started fighting when Kageyama back's down after their defeat with Aoba Josai in the earlier seasons. Hinata knows that despite the tone Kageyama means well and its just nice to see how the entire King thing that we taught has been resolved back in S01 has been slowly building up and just comes back full circle and not only further develops Kageyama's character but the entire team as well

This episode really highlights what Miya Atsumu meant by 'goody two shoes'. The role of the setter is to give your hitters the best toss possible, but that is NOT the same as giving them the toss THEY want; which is something Kageyama has been doing ever since he got into highschool, and although it's better than he was in middle school, it is not ideal for the team. Hitters are gonna have their comfortable style, but as a setter, you are the one person who is going to hyper-analyse those plays, and know your hitters can hit better in a variety of ways. It comes across as the same because of his tone, but note that Kageyama is no longer setting like he's the only one playing, he knows he's accommodating for the hitters, and is now getting angry that even that isn't working, not that the hitters aren't playing the exact way he wants them to. As long as he is willing to make changes should need be, and as long as the hitters understand their criticisms won't be ignored, these conflicts caused by Kageyama's 'king' role are all beneficial for the teams growth, as we clearly see with Tsukishima being forced to hit higher than he comfortably wants to, and making a play that was previously blocked.

it's kind of a maturity moment, a new step in the right direction. Just be the king was not useful without team mates with awareness and a similar vision

That kind of remind me of how much Kageyama's still behind of Oikawa. There was that one time when Kindaichi gave a review about the toss to Oikawa, because he'd always try to improve it and correspond to spiker desires, but Oikawa said something like "I get your point, but let's try this way for a bit more". And that made Kindaichi improve his impact point height. So it's truly not about give exactly what the spiker want, but as a setter, give the best sett possible for them. Just like Kageyama had to do with Hinata on S2. I guess at this point he stil hadn't understood that entirely.

Just to let you know, "Make the damn point" line, wasn't that disrespectful in Japanese. He used honorifics, and didn't say the word "damn", it's just a "then please make the point" in a very aggressive tone. And about Kageyama getting rejected to Shiratorizawa, technically he didn't get "rejected" he "failed", academically, through the high school entrance exam, high schools can't reject people. These little mistranslations can lead to wrong impression of characters... sigh...

He essentially was rejected. He's the best setter in his year level, but he was not recruited. He was essentially rejected by that logic, I suppose

in japanese, saying something like "please mr RG_ryt do this thing" in a loud voce and without some level of paraphrasing, it's the same as hitting you in the face in western culture. It was very rude.
@rg_ryt7225
@rg_ryt7225 2 жыл бұрын
@@JacopoBasanisi Then how would you translate "Make your damn point" to Japanese? it's not like rude phrasing don't exist. How would you translate "点を取れよ、クソ" to English if "please make the point" can be a equivalent to "make the damn point"? tones doesn't equal to word translation
@JacopoBasanisi

@@rg_ryt7225 You are obviously more qualified than me for this kind of translation, I was just pointing out that different languages have different degree of "politeness". My point was on the culture. What you can say at your most polite behaviour, like "oh grampa I'll be delighted do what you are asking me", they'll say by kneeling face down on the ground and telling a 10 sentences story about how they are honoured to do the thing. For comparison, something on the line of "please don't do that and go away" is the sort of things they say to a creep molesting you on the train. So you can imagine, in western culture, that could be translated with insults of all kinds, to make us understand the same energy. At the same time, different culture have different definition for love, for example. You english speakers use love for an ice cream, in my country you have to be careful to say the word to someone, in Japan they can even marry someone and have kids, but saying "I love you" like once in their lifetime. But this was too long, sorry for the long comment. When you look at translations there are 200 things you have to consider and everybody will bring to the table other 200 things, so there's no end to this kind of debates.

@@JacopoBasanisi I get your point, but I grew up in Japan so I think I understands the Japanese culture well. I've done translation jobs before, so I also know how hard it is to do a cross-culture translation. But Haikyuu has one of the worse translation I've seen in Animes, sometimes it's just wrong. What your saying is more suitable for dubbing. In subs, we don't convert culture differences as much, because translators change between episodes, so it needs to be consistent. You can't ask a translator to watch few hours of how the previous translator translate their tone, or "politeness". So, yeah, different practice between different translators I guess.

This chapter is text book Thesis + Antithesis = Synthesis Thesis: Original Kageyama would always set the best set possible regardless if the attackers could keep up. Antithesis: Oikawa-like Kageyama would set the ball that was the easiest for the spiker to attack. Synthesis: New King Kageyama, consider the condition and capabilities of your attacker, but do not settle for the easiest serves always, force/help them to keep improving, going higher or faster or whatever you feel they can. The goal here is not to do the best set or easiest set, but to help your attackers be the best attackers they can. Even thought it seems as a step back, it's the total opposite, Original King Kageyama used his skills to be the best setter, now he is going to use them to make his team the best team, it's not only about him anymore, it's the ultimate realization of Oikawa's "The six stronger are the strongest team".

Nishinoya not moving from the back row attack is also setting up the libero power levels. In the All Japan training camp Itachiyama's libero (Komori) had the presence of mind to do just that and Kageyama was impressed.

It's immensely ~satisfying~ to see you understand this conflict so well, not everyone manages x) I remember reading it in the manga for the first time and being very pleasantly surprised that they didn't go the same "oh he's regressing back to being the King and it is Bad" route, instead validating his "identity" and play style through Hinata's words and Karasuno's support. It's interesting how at first he took Oikawa's words to heart, about having to give your spikers the exact tosses they want, and then Atsumu's, when he noticed that Kageyama (because of his previous experience) was hung up on that to the point of it becoming detrimental. And even though it was Oikawa who initially pushed him in the "goody two shoes" direction, there was a whole separate scene back in S2 showing that Oikawa was actually pushing his spikers when necessary (when Kindaichi said that he was having trouble hitting a new toss, but Oikawa insisted that they still give it a shot, making him reach higher). Really nice parallels, love how it all comes together neatly to show us the "setter spectrum" lol. As a personal translation nitpick, I don't quite like the "then make the damn point" phrase, because Kageyama still uses polite language despite his tone being rude. I'd say it's more of a "then would you [please] score?", since his tone conveys how frustrated he is pretty well on its own, but oh well~

All that is why it's satisfying (at least to me) that Kunimi and Kindaichi almost always linger, worry, are still annoyed, are torn up about what Kageyama's deal is, despite being on a different team now. Because them as a team were just not able to talk and work that out (not saying they should have, Kageyama was borderline verbally abusive to the Kitagawa spikers as far as I'm concerned). With Karasuno, it just so happened that they were the right attitude and personality type to be able to handle him (it also really helps that they're older and Kageyama is a junior member, and what Carson said about him already having 'learned the lesson'). It's not a bad thing that he's competitive and a perfectionist. The team rises to his level, and he adjusts to the level of his team as well.

And yeah lol he literally says kudasai, but the tone is the giveaway there, and tone definitely does not translate. It would have been more apt to maybe text speak that: "Then. Please. Score. More. Points!" or something obnoxious like that lol

About Tanaka staying on the court, Tanaka is the only player on Karasuno to never get subbed out or miss any playing time. Hinata and Tsukki switch with Noya, Daichi missed due to injury, Asahi left the team. Also he's the only second year not to leave the team for any reason

I like that Takeda-sensei pointed out that even though the 3rd yrs are always vocal about how lucky they are that 1st yrs with great potential came to the team, Kageyama (and the other 1st yrs and even 2nd yrs) should or ARE equally thankful to how supportive the 3rd yrs are as a foundation. Because as much as I love Oikawa as a character (he's so interesting and adds spice to the show), he's an awful senpai. He's already a setter that does what Kags is currently evolving to: a setter who can analyze the condition of his team, communicate well with the wants of his team, but still push his team's capabilities to a higher degree through criticisms, suggestions and experimentations. And yet he refused to teach Kags any of those assets a setter should have. Meanwhile, Daichi allows "fights" to happen because these kids need to express what they want to say even if it comes out aggressively. Suga is willing to stay in the sidelines and support the new gen; guiding Kags in communicating better with the rest of the team. Asahi and the 2nd yrs aren't prideful that a 1st yr cocky genius brat like Kags can point out their flaws. They are accepting of criticisms as long as they are communicated properly. Truly, Karasuno is fictional because of the amount of wholesomeness in the team hahaha

My personal favourite little thing in this episode is Kogane recognising the amount of practice and work Kageyama puts into setting to be this good, instead of just shrugging it off as Kageyama being a prodigy like many others. It's a nice detail, especially since the 'big talk' is yet to come.

Date Tech is, obvious from the name, technical school (I guess you'd say... vocational, maybe?) so the third years are very unlikely to be going to university. Probably will go into trade or family business or something like that, but anyway not important heh 🤭

I love that this channel has similar tastes as me. For example I don't like classic shonen anime but I liked jujutsu kaisen very much and they explain very well why I liked it so much more than demon slayer. Haikyuu is top tier. Also the main reason why i watched kaguya sama was because i knew they loved this show and i loved it as well.
