In the 2019/20 season, Stephen Hendry announced his return to the professional Tour after receiving a 2-year green card.
See how well he is performing; he's technically quite in tune, especially on long shots and break-building, his two main assets ever. Nigel Bond, who leads 2-1, tests Hendry's temper on more than one occasion, and you will surely agree that Hendry rises to the challenge.
This version contains a few additional shots, better editing and image and sound quality improvement. Unfortunately, the original version is no longer on the channel.
Stephen Hendry vs Nigel Bond, 2020 World Seniors Championship - Last 16
The statistics shown in the video correspond to the date of the match.
Cesar Muroya created a unique editing technique to extract the essence of the game without losing the drama involved. Contextual information is also an innovation appreciated by viewers.
This format is not intended to substitute the full version but rather to make snooker more accessible to new fans. The fluency and atmosphere of the game stay in a shorter length video, allowing even experienced fans to enjoy snooker at any time.

Shephen is by far the greatest player to pick up a cue, i used to watch him practice in Spencers snooker club in stirling in the morning and in the afternoon he played othet professionals in the afternoon, if all players were to have played all at the same time, steve davis, ronnie osullivan, jimmy white, john Higgins, judd trump, and many more talanted players world wide thete is only one man that top the lot, mr hendry by a mile, his dedication was unreal a complete animal on the table, never out drinking or partying cos his snooker came 1st , ronnie osullivan is probably the most talanted as he can get centuries with both hands, the best thing that happened to Stephen hendry was playing steve davis in different venues in scotland as a youngster whare steve davis destroyed stephen in every night, after that well i dont need to explain what happened next, stephen ruled the world and everyone knows that, it was great watching you in Spencers stephen , you were the ultimate snooker machine mate.

@@thelimey351 Comparing players from one era to another is difficult. The general standard in any sport increases over time. Very few past-era players in any sport would play top-level in today's game BUT if they were IN today's game, their level too also be better because competition drives skill level. Measuring the skill of past-era snooker players is tricky, but if you use the statistics that more indicate individual skill such as average breaks, clearances, century breaks, 147's etc, you can clearly see that Hendry was in the top 5 skill-wise. BTW the suggestion that the pockets were bigger in the early days is not accurate. They were just inconsistent until 1990 when a standard template was introduced. Ronnie O'Sullivan is clearly the most skilled. Hendry of course, didn't win on skill alone. He was an extremely focused and disciplined player and absolutely fearless. Who is the GOAT? In my view Ronnie is the GOAT mainly because of his cue ball control, but had they both been at their peak skill and temperament-wise, it may have been too close to call.

He retired because he couldn’t win the big events anymore. Obviously he’s still a good snooker player but he realised the elite were all better than him. He did the right thing. It’s no fun losing when you’ve been the best in the world. Most players are the same. O Sullivan, Higgins and Williams are the exception and very rare, hence the 14 World Championships between them.

Stephen turned 30 in the year 2000. This means that the decade he dominated ended during the same year he turned 30 and he literally went from winning everything to winning nothing. A similar thing happened to Mike Tyson. He lost for the first time when the 1980's ended after he lost to Douglass in 1990 and he lost for the second time when he turned 30 after he fought Holyfield. Stephen didn't quit the game until 2012 I believe and he did so by making a maximum break at Sheffield. I guess he retired early when compared to Ronnie and Steve Davis but he stopped playing because he couldn't win a trophy for some reason. I blame turning 30 and the end of the nineties for that.

I Hope Hendry plays for another 5 years at least, then he will pick up momentum, if he plays 2/3 years then goes back into retirement he will regret it, as I gave up sport just 1 year too early, then my team won the league and I got no medal, I was gutted, so go as far as your body and mind will take you, you never know what's around the corner! Hendry can still beat half the guys out there when he's on form and when he puts in the extra work for a few years he will be great again, I bet a few are trying to get him to do extra media instead, to put him off his game or slow him down....World Championship no.8? Could it be? Stranger things have happened...just like my old team!

You seem to be forgetting that even though Hendry was coming towards the end of his career he was still beating some of the top players. If you doubt how good he was then look to the grudge match between him and Ronnie after O’Sullivan slagged him off. Both players desperate to beat the other. Remind us all who won that match?
@dougieroberts7045

@@deepskymike767 Not in the same class as OSullivan, OSullivan effectively retired Hendry. You cant judge a player on his best performance, that would be ridiculous, you can only judge a player on his consistency and longevity. The standard hasn't improved dramatically but there are plenty of better players out there today and countless numbers who are just as good as Hendry. It would be worth remembering that when Hendry was the man to beat there was really only a handful of players who were realistically capable of beating him

@@Geena-tn1pt Theres lies, damn lies and then theres statistics. Hendry played during a period where there was only a few players who were capable of beating him. The simple truth of it is there is no comparison. OSullivan retired Hendry, he knew he couldnt compete with him. OSullivan has been the man to beat for 30 years, in a far bigger field of talented players, thats the only statistic that really matters.
