KZbin doesn't seem to render darkness well, so the start appears low resolution because it's at night. :( Oh well.
This is a video I made to celebrate the character of John Falstaff in the Netflix adaptation of the history of King Henry V.
His friendship with Hal, compelling monologues and selfless sacrifice make for a very interesting character, to me!
The song is The Quality of Mercy, by Max Richter from The Leftovers soundtrack.

Falstaff's helmet, most notably the visor, is of a slightly older design than the contemporary ones used by most of the other foot knights and infantrymen we see in the movie. A somewhat small detail that most people might not pick up on, but one that proves Falstaff's being an older warrior of another period. It was very cool to see such attention given to the armour and weaponry, not the standard biker gang metal studded leather and swords for everyone historical movies tend to have. This movie really flew under the radar wich is a real same. Great performances all around and this version of Falstaff was just fantastic.

“Too often, have i seen men of war, make work for themselves, work that leads to nothing but vain glory and slaughtered men, i am not that man, you are not that man either” wow the weight of that line when you finish the movie and realize Hal did exactly that even if he didnt intend it, even if he was tricked into it... in truth its not the man Hal was, but its the man he became through deception

Falstaff in fiction embodied the real historical Edward Duke of York, who advised Henry when he became king and gave his life defending Henry when both fought in the vanguard at Agincourt.

nothing breaks a man quicker and harder then experiencing what society deems as good and virtuous and personally finding out it's the exact opposite. He's has seen war and knows how terrible it is yet everyone around him hold him in high regard save for his drinking. He turns to drink because he has no one around him to turn to - a true troubled soul

As good as every other actor was in this movie I couldn’t help but feel attached to this character when it started. The ending left me pretty upset for Sir John Falstaff a man with great wisdom in a time where many men couldn’t be taught in schools as commonly as today. That type of intelligence was only earned through age and experience

@justskiddingaround-idontkn7519
@justskiddingaround-idontkn7519 Жыл бұрын
Nah at least ancient soldiers mostly only had to worry about what they could see. Modern Warfare with all its hidden bombs, long range attacks, and various other difficult to sense attacks is far more terrifying. In ancient warfare you know chances are you’ll be safe in your tent until the time comes to face off on the field. In modern war you could be bombed at any time, that fear and anxiety will haunt you every waking moment.
@tiznaeshnishto2584
@tiznaeshnishto2584 Жыл бұрын
@@justskiddingaround-idontkn7519 I would argue when it came the time to fight, ancient warfare's brutality must've done so much to a fragile human mind as you sensibly beat the living shit out of another human with a sword, rock, or even hands. Although this is not a competition of how traumatizing warfare is, it should never be one. Warfare at all costs is something that should be avoided as future generations go on.

@@tiznaeshnishto2584nah its a natural part of human behavior, we feud with eachother and go to war over land, same as prides of lions packs of wolves hyenas and most group animals, if there was no war the world would have ended many years ago from overpopulation lmao
