This is my “main” amp, in terms of hours used, for both bass and guitar. I keep it on top of my (Yamaha) upright piano and use the wireless almost exclusively. Stream some backing music via Bluetooth and I’m jamming away.

So this amp is for guitar or bass?
@GAZZA19603 күн бұрын
I have a positive grid spark.. I occasionally use it for bass..definitely good enough, with the advantage of killer electric gtr tones. And decent acoustic guitar.. Cheap as chips, especially used..

I still have and use at home the first version the Yamaha THR10. I think it looks even better then the newer versions. For Bass I either use the Ampeg Simulation or the Flat Setting that sounds a lot like my bigger Markbass combo to me. Also a good tip for people who are watching their budget. Since the THR10 is not the current model, you can often get this combo very cheaply second-hand.
@johnsausageАй бұрын
What kind of Markbass combo do you have? I also had the Yamaha THR10 and a Markbass 121 P and in no way did the THR 10 ever come close the power of the markbass combo (with which you can play very small gigs). But the THR 10 was a great "desktop practice amp". But I also find this product presentation strange.. if you need something to practice with headphones, then you don't need a speaker (and therefore no THR 10) and the last demonstration was just a close up mic. This does not show how the sounds projects in a room. A more realistic comparison would be to play some cajon together with bass on this amp and the record the sound in the room and walk around.. to get a feel of how potent the speaker is. I also played a gig with the THR 10 with a Fender VI bass "guitar" together with 2 acoustic guitars.. worked quite well :D
@Klaus80804Ай бұрын
@@johnsausage I have the CMD102P Combo. The Yamaha is a bedroom amp and so can never ever offer the same power as the Markbass. But the tone (focused mids, no scoops) is close to my ears. So with the THR10 I have a small version of my Markbass sound at home. Also, for live I use the Markbass as a wedge monitor. My original tone comes from my P-Bass with a SH-1 Pedal from Tech21.

I have an older version guitar model, where one of the Amp models is a bass amp. It struggles to get above low vol without the speakers distorting. My solution was to keep a 15" 100watt amp under my desk at work.

Hi, your video makes me very very happy. I’ve played guitar and about a year an a half started to play bass. I own this beautiful amp; I’ve bought for my guitar, and a month ago I started to use it with my bass. Very carefully because I was afraid that I can broke it with the bass, but it’s sound great. Thanks for ypur video.

You made what I think is the main point concerning these types of mini amps: if it doesn't sound good, what's the point? I have one of the Boss units and it sounds like crap. It's only 5 watts so what can you expect? But, since it sounds so bad I've never used it. A practice amp should inspire you to practice.
@hyper-slothАй бұрын
Totally agree. I stopped buying crap and usually end up using a Phil Jones C4 (part of my rig) and a head. If I wanted to spend more I would get a Phil Jones mini rig.

A Neural DSP plugin and monitor speaker sounds better than this haha. Or just buy a cheap Ashdown studio series. These sound great, even for gigs (the 500w version, 100w is fine for home use, let's not kid ourselves).

I have that amp and I love it for guitar but for bass, I use a Phils Jones Double Four. It has great bottom for such a small amp.
@Johno-kg2kqАй бұрын
Hey there ! Don’t want to bother you, but have you tried using the Double Four with an electric eg SG or Stratocaster? (Im trying to save space and really like the idea of getting a Double Four). I’ve played my electrics through a Rumble and they sound pretty good so I’d like to hear if you’ve tried similar through the Double Four. Thanks 🙏
@janmango4692Ай бұрын
@@Johno-kg2kq I have a Double Four and you can use it as a platform for guitar, electric or acoustic. But the amp is meant to be "clean" of course, so most people will need effects to get the wanted guitar sound.

The original IK Multimedia iLoud portable speaker had absolutely mind blowing sound capabilities, but none of the modeling or effects- truthfully I don't need those but its a nice slick little all-in-one thing everyone likes to do now. I loved the iLoud so much I bought the split version; the iLoud Micro Monitors and they're definitely the most used speakers in my llife. Just wish I could get my hands on another of the single block unit iLouds.

I have one.. I love it too
@Terrible_PerilАй бұрын
@@WyattLite-n-inn found a couple available currently, one in terrible condition and one looking pretty clean. It's not a good time for that kind of purchase for me but man it's tempting haha. I have a JBL Go 2 on my pedalboard as a "practice amp" using the headphone out of my HX Stomp- the kind of board centerpiece/brain. But I've been doing the measurements for like 10 years now, the iLoud box would fit so nicely under my board in the bigger case I use sometimes and that would be a very pleasing progression of mini-rig.

I have one of the older THR amps and bass sounds good through headphones but not through the speakers. They're great for guitar and have the bonus of being an audio interface, too but mine isn't great for bass...

Just buy a little rechargeable pa speaker. Ion/alesis block rocker is way better for busking

Maybe not a desktop amp, but the Markbass 801 is also great sounding, small and simple. Even enough power for small acoustic or quiet gigs

hundreds of pieces of gear are released every year, its easy to not review stuff you don't enjoy.
@johnsausageАй бұрын
In the description it says "This video was sponsored by Yamaha. This fact doesn't influence my opinions or test results. Technically it is considered to be an ad, even if that is not the intended purpose.". That has been the case in quite a lot of videos. But I think Gregor still points out stuff that isn't good, but maybe he would be more critical if he would have bought it himself (but why buy it in the first place?). If you actually look at this product then you don't really know where to put it.. it can do pretty much everything but you can't use it for serious recording and gigging.. so IMO it's a waste of money if anybody plans to play gigs and record bass (and then buys other gear afterwards).
