Very helpful video. I received my A7RV about 6 weeks ago and LOVE it! I actually sold my a1 with NO regrets! Tracking is amazing. Picture quality is amazing, For some reason, this is the 1st digital camera where I frequently use the crop mode. As you mention, even with Crop mode and a little additional cropping in post you end up with a very good image for the internet or a high quality 8x10 print.

I have had the camera week and love it. I didn't need it but I wanted it for megapixels. I stepped up from the A7iii which I have only had for a year. It is a huge upgrade and I love it. I see you have a video using the 1.4 teleconverter. Unfortunately I bought the 2x converter for the 3 and was disappointed with the focusing. Is there a chance you will be testing the 2x converter on the V? This video helped me a lot. I am a retired hobbyist so I had to research the back focus setting before changing it. I also would love to see more in depth videos on wildlife shooting. Thank you!

Glad you’re enjoying the camera!! Regarding the 2x TC, no I won’t be testing it i’m afraid. I’m in s position where I buy pretty much all of my own equipment and the 2x doesn’t meet my requirements. If you haven’t watched the video already then you should. Happy to do more wildlife stuff!

What's the fastest shutter speed on the a7RV to insure the clearest sharpest detail with fast flying birds during flight, with very little to no blurring of the wings and body? Also, I see it's mechanical shutter can only shoot 10 fps. How many fps shooting on the a7RV electronic shutter? Usually it's more than mechanical shutter speed.
@DannyBligh
@DannyBligh 8 күн бұрын
The fastest shutter speed is 1/8000. However you could get away with 1/800. Not 100% sure about the electronic shutter fps. However if you’re wanting to photography birds flying, stick to mechanical. Trust me. The warping is awful on electronic

@DannyBligh I owned Panasonic G9 with the 100-400mm Leica vario lens for 6 years. I recently sold it to upgrade to full frame. I took plenty of birds in flight photos within the past couple years with it. Using mechanical shutter at 20 fps on the G9 I'm sure presents far less warp than on a full frame camera. Thanks for the info.

I wonder if you tried comparing to the Sony A1? Personally I got frustrated with the A7Rv missing focus on flying birds, and returned for the A1 which is the real master for this task. Now watching this video I wonder if firmware update has corrected the problem. However, I am 100% happy with the A1, so have no regrets for my decision, except my wallet is lighter :)
@DannyBligh
@DannyBligh Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately I haven’t, sorry! Would love to get my hands on an A1 though. I did consider buying one before this was announced but chose to go for the newer (and still cheaper) option. Perhaps the firmware did do something, personally I felt that it did but it could always be down to user error (definitely happens for me!). If I can get an A1, i’ll make a comparison video happen. Glad you’re liking the A1! Thanks for watching

Great camera but theres also a tonne of issues to work around - same as every other camera for wildlife photography. I prefer M43 as you basically only compromise low light and depth of field in certain scenarios. Everything else is banging

Great video Danny. It seems like you've been doing some homework trying to get the RV to work well with the 100-400. On my A7Riii phase detect AF stops working at or smaller than F8 (I can't remember which now), and will only focus for the first shot then the focus stays the same if you're doing a burst. Frustrating when using the 100-400 + 1.4TC. Did you find out if PDAF stops working at any particular apertures, or noticed focus behaving weirdly at smaller apertures? Your videos are getting me excited for when I pull the trigger in few months on the A7RV. Unless there's soon to be an A9iii released by then!

Thank you!! Glad you’re liking it! So with the 100-400 straight on the camera i’ve never had an issue. It’s absolutely solid after i did the FW update (check the sony website) As for the TC situation… check out my latest video. That will help answer your questions and maybe help your frustrations

Thanks for the video!!! I'm thinking hard about getting this camera! I know that landscapes are not a problem for this camera, but there is very little on birds, and birds in flight on KZbin! Do you lose anything (focusing, exposure) when shooting 10 fps??? Any lag??? (It should not EVF refresh is 120fps) More birds in flight please!!! 👍👍👍
@DannyBligh
@DannyBligh Жыл бұрын
My pleasure Marvin! So focusing and exposure, no difference at all! No lag either! The only difference from what I can see on the Sony specs is the difference in colour depth and that’s not really an issue for me, but some people swear by 14-bit and won’t take anything less. It’s personal preference! I genuinely can’t see any issues with shooting at 10fps (compressed raw) or the camera in general. My only wish is a faster fps but you won’t get that unless You get the A9ii (maybe the A1, but don’t quote me on that). More birds in flight? Sure thing! Hoping to do the teleconverter video soon so i’ll try and sort that for you and do 2 birds, 1 stone. Pun entirely intended! 😂

Focus issues is what brought me here. I’ve been having issues with my A7R5 + Sigma 150-600 DG DN. Focus is slightly off. The sensor show focus in one area but you can tell it’s off. I’m hoping firmware update to lens fixes it

i used those god forsaken sigma lenses the 100-400 on the sony a7riv and it was an abysmal nightmare. i returned it as fast as i received it after i tested it and good ridence all the problems that damn lens caused me. after that i realized if i want decent quality photos ill have to cough up the 2k or more for the sony 100-400 g master

I really want the RV but haven’t decided yet. I’ve been using the a6400 with the 200-600mm and it works great for wildlife and flying aircraft.
@DannyBligh
@DannyBligh Жыл бұрын
Never really used the a6400, no doubt it's great but the a7rv would be a good upgrade. Something to bear in mind is that your 200-600 will look like a 200-600, whereas at the moment due to the crop factor it's like a 320-940 (roughly). But you will have more pixels to be able to crop it on. But (yep, another one!), something I always say to people. Do you NEED the A7Rv or do you just WANT it? There's a big difference and sometimes we struggle to control the 'GAS'. If the A6400 is already meetings your needs, stick with it for a little longer. If not, buy something else and sell the A6400. I'll stop acting like a dad now! Thanks for watching David!

@@DannyBligh thanks a lot. Yeah I’ve considered most of that. I also do a lot of macro/landscape work and just want the higher resolution. Just to clarify, this isn’t how I make a living so I have considered the a7IV, too. Im not a pro and don’t pretend to be 😂. I have been very happy with my a6400 but want more dynamic range and resolution. The low light performance of the a6400 also isn’t the best but that’s typical for APS-C. I like making prints for myself but have considered trying to sell some and see how it goes. I have had people ask me to shoot certain things out of my comfort zone lately (like military promotion ceremonies) after seeing my work and I think I’d be more comfortable with a higher end camera. I also figured my son could use the a6400 with the 70-350mm afterwards since he likes photography as well. Makes for good bonding time. Your channel is great by the way. I definitely subscribed.

@@davidlawson3400 there’s nothing wrong with not being a ‘pro’ and needing the gear. Needing doesn’t have to be financial mate. The a7iv is great too, not gone super indepth with that camera but definitely a good Sony full frame without breaking the bank. Keep me informed with what you get and thanks for the support! Really trying to keep it entertaining whilst informative ✌🏻

Really wish I watched this video 4 hours ago PRIOR to my kids track meet. 🤣 I was getting so frustrated with not being able to get the full 10fps burst rate - I ended up switching my FX3 over to photos. I now realize it's because I was shooting Lossless RAW instead of compressed. I can definitely see a difference when pixel peeping between Uncompressed and Compressed - have you seen much of a difference between the two?
@DannyBligh
@DannyBligh Жыл бұрын
Haha! Well at least you’ve watched it now 😂 I’ve done a bunch of photos between lossless, compressed and uncompressed and sure when pixel peeping you can tell a slight difference in certain areas of the image but for the most part, on a photo that’s been exposed properly etc, no. But! Did you know that on some of the older Sony cameras when shooting in a high drive mode, your photos are compressed then? Because I didn’t and hadn’t ever realised 😂 if you haven’t seen it, there’s a video somewhere about the compression. Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
