Great palms up here in the SF Bay Area. I have several groves of them, the oldest ones being 35 years old. They LOVE water, lots of it.

This winter has been mild and I added some more micro sprinklers to these plants... They look much better! They seem to toughen up/ adapt after about 7-10 years in our region. Thanks for the comment.

How fast do these king palms grow? I’m looking to get a few and want to start off at about 10 ft but I don’t want them to get over 25ft too fast. Any suggestions would be helpful

Thanks for the kind words. I like them too! I have a different variety that is still small, but unique. The new leaves are a reddish color.

At 0:25 looks more like sunburn than frost damage. Also you shouldn't have to tear off old leafs as a healthy king will release a leaf before it turns completely brown. Increase irrigation and make sure it never dries out, 365 days a year. Also increase fertilizer.

Thanks for the advice... This winter has been milder and they seem happier with less damage. I'll add some more drippers to them too.

Do you know if it's possible to remove and re-plant one of the smaller trunks of the King Palm? I have a pretty well established King Palm about 10 ft tall but there is one small trunk about 2 ft that I want to re-plant some where else.

Hi! It's possible but can be very hard to do without damaging the roots of the other palms. I'd use my weeding tool to carefully explore and remove the soil around the palm you want to move. Get as much of the rootball as possible and keep it from getting sun stressed for a bit. Good luck!

I live in Temecula do you think they will Survive out here a lot of people have queen palms but I don’t want to deal with cleaning them. They will be in the sun most of the day with a few hours of shade
@WhatPlantisthatPaul3 жыл бұрын
Drive around and look for some in the neighborhood. They are more sensitive thank Queens, but with some shade, they should do fine up in your neck of the woods. Good luck!

How often should you water these if your in San Diego? Right now im doing it once a week.
@WhatPlantisthatPaul3 жыл бұрын
I use drip irrigation and water them 2-3 times per week during the summer. They are pretty hardy once established.

Junglemusic.net I'll check them out. I have several king palms, two foxtail palms, and the robellini palms. The foxtail and king palm are self cleaning. Which means their dead fronds will eventually fall off the tree so you don't need to trim with pruner. May look bad with dead frond sitting on it for awhile, but if they're tall, who wants to get up there or strain their neck pruning.

Do they do good in northern california
@WhatPlantisthatPaul3 жыл бұрын
Probably along the coast? Do you see any when you drive around in landscaped areas? They are more sensitive than queen palms, but still tough in my experience.
@josesoto90993 жыл бұрын
No i never seen or noticed one in my town 40 mins north of sacramento called yuba city . I found one once at Home Depot in Roseville it was unhealthy looking in a small pot . I still bought it and died shortly after. But recently found some healthy 6 footers from a nursery in Turlock i got me 4 of them and just planted them anyway about 3 weeks ago and so far they look good

Are kings fast growing??
@WhatPlantisthatPaul3 жыл бұрын
As they get older, they are decent growers, nothing like a queen palm though...

Are they alexandre or cunninghamiana..?

This one is ARCHONTOPHOENIX CUNNINGHAMIANA. I also have a rare Archontophoenix Terracarpa.

Can they be grown inside?
@WhatPlantisthatPaul4 жыл бұрын
I think so, if they get enough sunlight. In time, they will need some big pots... They get big in time :)

@@WhatPlantisthatPaul Those are nice but I found out it was the Coconut palms. Wonder if that will grow in Sacramento, CA climate.
